All right. Very last attempt. Then I'll shut up because I'm going to look it up. Apricots?

I may have typed Iraq (thanks to autocomplete) instead of Iran but did state it was the 2014 ranking (which I have here in front of me) but, look, I really don't care. It's just a bit of fun

Ask a question if you wish.

i didn't mean it as an attack on you or anything. Just pointing out the current standings, as I actually missed the part where you said 2014:o

No offence intended, just enjoying the game

This is going to be very easy, so I'll ask two.

What plant does acacia honey come from?

What's the origin of the word "Clue"?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,737 ✭✭✭✭looksee

Well presumably its not the acacia tree...

Clue - that's a really good question, I will think on it but I don't think I know.

I only read up about the word "clue" recently, and I thought it was soooo cooool! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,737 ✭✭✭✭looksee

Yes I have just looked it up and it is an intriguing answer.

Stumped on both and particularly intrigued about 'clue'.

Not what I was going for at all, sorry.

I had to look up the clue question, as curiosity was killing me.

Excellent question and one I'm using at the next session with my mates.

Thanks Srameen - it was a serendipitous find, I must admit. :)

Thanks for that one. The term "clef" is of particular significance to a music-nutter like me.

Was I right or was I wrong? Is I is or is I ain't?

No, it's not it at all, sorry.

Awww. Give it to him - it's a great answer even if it's wrong.

I know, it's a lovely answer but the real one is, like I said, ssssooooooo coooool! Anyway, you're not biassed, or anything, are you? :pac:

Just in case, the acacia honey one is still outstanding, too.

So, do you guys need a clue or two?? I don't want to string you along...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,737 ✭✭✭✭looksee

I saw what you did there :D

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 78,180 Mod ✭✭✭✭New Home

    Amazing, isn't it? :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,034 ✭✭✭garancafan

Ah. Those clues trigger a distant memory. It has something to do with a type of maze into which one could enter carrying a ball of string tethered at the entrance allowing one to retrace one's steps should one get lost. Does the word "clue" derive from a word for "string"?

    You got it! :)

CLUE: 1590s, spelling variant of clew "a ball of thread or yarn," in this sense with reference to the one Theseus used as a guide out of the Labyrinth. The purely figurative sense of "that which points the way" is from 1620s.

Told you it was cool! :D
