What is the only US state that is divided into parishes rather than counties?

No idea, but I've a 1 in 50 chance, so I'll go with Oregon, because it's my favourite.

    Huh?
    Insular Denmark 1662-2006
    New Zealand 1876-1989
The Outer Lands aka the Isles of Stirling ( USA.)
Not forgetting the British Isles, or, if one prefers, The Podes, or the Antiantipodes. ( with apologies to Shane Madowan! )

    P.S.

"Its a long way to Tipperary", a song that became popular with british units during the first world war, was written by whom?

*This is quite a targeted question so I'll wait for a few guesses before answering. Hopefully someone will know :)

This was always disputed and the subject of several law suits over the years but I think the recognised writer now is Harry Williams.

Can you tell me who it was disputed with, for full marks?

Ironically, considering the legal disputes, the biggest case was versus somebody Judge I think.

    Jack Judge

Correct. Consider my "this is a difficult question" bubble deflated. Next question to Srameen.

No, but you're on the right lines. It is a Christmas item. ;)

Mince pies have a very long history, its only relatively recently that they are not made with meat, just the suet is left in mincemeat and even that is disappearing.

Once in the 19th century the British consul in Oporto had them distributed among the local populace. Misunderstanding the word, the locals thought they were a gift from the municipal authorities. To this day they are called muncipais in Portuguese.

    What's 'polenta'?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,642 ✭✭✭✭OldGoat

Polenta is a kind of flour, mostly made from corn (maze) but can be made with chickpeas or any other starchy grain. Most frequently found these days as the gritty stuff on the base of cheap takeaway pizzas. :(

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

I always thought that gritty stuff on the base of pizzas was semolina. I stand corrected - always good to learn something new!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,642 ✭✭✭✭OldGoat

It can be semolina too. Anything that is a bit cheaper than flour and provides that low traction surface to work the dough on.
Good pizzas are hard to find. I tend to make my own breads but I still need to taste others to see if I'm missing anything. All in the name of research you understand. :D

    OK, new question.
Who is credited with the invention of modern SCUBA gear?

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

Sorry but that's WRONG. Polenta is not semolina, not is is a kind of flour.
