Just finished Days gone and waiting on TLOU 2 to come out. Would this be a good game to fill the void considering those are the kinds of games I'm into?

    Absolutely.

    Absolutely.

Checked in Tesco this evening, still €65. I'll need to try somewhere else to get it a bit cheaper.

40 in Smyths. If your not near one just wait until Monday & if it's still 40 buy it online(postage is free). 2 games I ordered this past week I got the next day.

I'm finding it a hard game to complete, I'm probably only only half way through and I got it at Christmas.

Just Cause 4 another option. I enjoyed Just Cause 3-Mindless sandbox fun. Picked up 4 today , steelbook edition, in Gamestop for €25.

Let me know how you find it. I've heard nothing but negatives about it compared to JC3

Will be months yet before I get to it! As per my earlier posts here my ps4 died so lost everything on RDR2. I've started again. Then when that's done I have Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Wolfenstein 2, God of War, Battlefield 1 and Far Cry 5 still in their shrink wrap!

I got it today and I spent a few hours at it after over an hour installing the damn thing. Looks like it's going to be huge and fairly enjoyable. It's not a patch on Days Gone but still pretty good.

I got my hands in a brush for the horse, now all I want is a fishing rod. The main mission can wait, I'm hunting, crafting, gambling and hopefully before long, fishing.

Playing the prologue and just completing stuff, notice 2 things.

    Swimming
John like in RDR1 can't swim, I'd go out in the water to fetch something and almost instantly die with him. Stamina drops very fast and then health until death, if your feet can't touch the bottom you're screwed.

    Drawings
John's stick men are a big drop from Arthurs' artistic endeavours

Been plugging away at this nicely now, I'm about one or two missions from the end of chapter 5. have to say, I'm really glad I gave it a second chance, the story kicks into gear rightly
from when you get to Rhodes, and then on to Saint Denis, loving how the gang is starting to unravel, along with dutch's sanity, and the trip to Guarma was an unusual, if somewhat short lived diversion
. Only quibble at the moment is there was a run of missions one after the other where it wasnt possible to do a manual save, Thats a real pet hate of mine, as I generally try and just do a mission or so an evening, rather than marathoning it.

Well, the main story is done and dusted, and now I'm through epilogue part 1, and into part 2.

What a triumph of a game, I cant believe I nearly shelved it early on, As I think back on it now, the story is a true epic, from the initial introduction of the gang while holed up in the freezing mountains after a job gone bad, to the various camps and settlements, and gradual unraveling of everything by the end of chapter 6. Even the slightly odd change of scenery midway through the game is memorable enough in its own way, and I can't think of the last time a game generated a genuine emotion / feeling of regret like I felt at the end of chapter 6, further compounded by moments of genuine vulnerability when Arthur speaks with the Nun and during his time with Rains Fall.

Despite all its problems, and it certainly has some, its just been magnificent, The voice acting, the animations, the musical score that accompanies some moments, There's a level of detail here that I dont think we'll see again for quite some time.

Something bugging me about this since i picked it up again. Im constantly having to adjust the camera with the R3 stick so that it sits directly behind Arthur. Its quite annoying and doesnt feel natural to constantly make these small adjustments.

I played this my original PS4 (until it died) and new Pro. On original I had no issues with the camera. On the pro, the camera slowly floated across to a new position and I would have to adjust camera back. Always to the left when behind Arthur. Controller was new so can’t be that. And no other game did the same. Is this what you are seeing ?

Must be a Playstation thing. As I don't remember having to do that on the One X.

Actually mine is over to the right. Ill try and explain it better.
When im going along a trail or road when i have to steer left or right with the left stick i also have to compensate with the right stick to position the camera directly behind Arthur, otherwise its always just over his right shoulder and i can't get a good look at whats coming up ahead.

Your controller is the problem. Test it with another to confirm. In the meantime, adjusting the in-game dead zone settings might help a bit.

Can optional honour story missions be replayed without depending on gamesaves? Looking for the "lending a hand" achievement which is at 90% but dont want to play the story through again just yet.

That's miss-able, you need to do all of them in 1 playthough.

Replaying the "Home Improvement for Beginners" mission can glitch the trophy on PS4 not sure about Xbox. Might have been patched out I think it only appeared with the last patch or so.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,482 ✭✭✭✭Varik

The glitch is that it unlocks a trophy it shouldn't, not that blocks you getting it.

FYI Red Dead is 10e on PSN for the next 2 days. After that it goes back up to 30e .
I just got it again yesterday to play through as I don't have my xbox with me.

I am ashamed to admit that I still have this sealed as a christmas gift from Christmas. I dunno. Couldn't wait to play the first one and played it day one.

I've heard different opinions on it. Some say its good others say the first was better. Whats everyones opinion?

yes shame on you hang your head in shame :P

tbh imo the first one is better because it was so ground breaking only GTA done that kinda game before
now rdr2 is brilliant so detailed and the missions can be exciting but the first one edges it
play it for a week and see how you feel

I'm going as far as now saying it's one of the most overrated games ever conceived.

I played it twice. Its utterly incredible in parts and utterly infuriating in parts. I enjoyed it more the 2nd time around as I skipped a lot of the fluff.

I’m not exaggerating when I say it’s one of the worst games I’ve played in years. Now that’s largely down to avoiding most of the real crap, so I’m not saying it’s one of the worst games out there - just that I’ve personally played at any great length. But genuinely I felt it was a mechanical and artistic mess of a game: a technical marvel with rare flashes of brilliance, but with so many fundamental and ridiculous problems in areas like mission design, basic mechanics and narrative that I couldn’t in good conscience recommend it. It’s a game that wants to be everything, and ends up not being anything particularly interesting beyond a marvel in graphical fidelity. Sadly that can’t sustain a 60+ hour game that feels like triple that.

I keep falling asleep whilst playing it.

I asked a question in the online thread yesterday but it seems to be a ghost town over there. Is anyone playing online or have they made a balls of it?

I started it, played the opening chapter and then Lost interest, after about 2 months had passed, I came back to it, and chipped away at it slowly, a story mission (or stranger mission) or two at a time. I think that might be the optimal way to play it, as it doesn't have the emergent chaos that a Grand theft Auto game has. Its very much a western simulator, and the more you embrace the slower nature of some of it, the more rewarding you'll find it.
personally, I think it has some of the best storytelling in any game - ever. I wont go into a long post about it, but it stands to me, as Rockstars finest work.
