Loving that tipo, seen a standard one on the road in round wood recently but can't remember the last one I've seen.

They suffered the same fate as all other fiats of that era, ROT the reason you dont see many is that not many survived.

Its a shame, fiats fantastic engineering was let down by their atrocious build quality

Wasn't the Tipo the first fully galvanised body? Can't remember ever seeing a rusty one around in the day.
I know they were never hugely popular but they really dissappeared off the face of the earth.

I think Porsche were the first to start galvanising their cars in the 70s

Many of us in here are too young to remember, but back in those days even garaged cars started to rust pretty badly after only a few years. I remember plenty of cars driving around in Dublin with large visible holes in the body, even up to the mid 90s. Unimaginable now!

You could be right about the Porsche but I was talking the run of the mill, bog standard cars that ordinary people bought.
But my memory could be playing tricks on me at this stage!!

Porsche 928 were full galvanised from the start in the late 70s, but they did have several aluminium body parts (door, bonnet) that obviously didn't need to be done

FIAT obviously learnt a valuable lesson from the predecessor of the Tipo, the Ritmo / Strada (launched around the time that Porsche started galvanising) which melted away on your driveway in about 3 years :D

To quote the guy himself..."From what I see, these commercial vehicles are beginning to command silly money now due to their ability to be used as working, marketing and advertising vehicles".........

Then he asks for 8500 sterlings.....

Any opinions on this 1996 MERCEDES-BENZ E-CLASS 220 convertible? e8000 at Dermot Wallace for the last few months.

When I enter the reg on mywheels.ie it shows as a Ferrari.

It looks like a good car actually but oddly seems a bit cheap from Mr Wallace who usually has cars like this well over priced. If its the correct reg then its an Irish car and wont have the UK rot problems. Good spec with leather and air con but I wonder why it had an engine re build. Those M111 engines are pretty bullet proof as are the transmissions.

I might treat myself in 2016 with this one.

My Dad's Miafore had two inches rotted off the bottom of the door skins, though in fairness to cars of the time, the previous car, a Hillman Avenger, had none.

when I was a young fella the guy next door had one of these.
Same colour and all, I've had a casual eye out for one for years but could only turn up series 2's.

I had the SuperVan 1.9D version of that back in the day. Even for a diesel it was a bit of a rocket.

If the seller paid the VRT due and NCT'd it, they'd increase their chances of selling it. Its a very nice example but as it stands its leaving some uncertanties for a prospective buyer.

Something fishy going on there alright. 96D24355 had never had an NCT either

@w124man - perhaps the car is in concours condition, but I can't see potential buyers queuing up willing to pay the guts of €8k for it...

The seller is a real Renault enthusiast ,a very fussy x Renault salesman who has had many cars in his collection .a few have been on here,

I was all over that car at the Kilkenny car show and couldn't fault it. Very original. I've seen pictures of it on fondementel (spelling? ) period alloys before too. I can't imagine it's deteriorated any bit since then. It looked factory fresh. I'd imagine anyone who views it would find the same. I can be a picky fceker when I want to be :o

In fairness to Mr Wallace, his cars are usually in very good condition and genuine. There must be an explanation for the reg number so I will investigate. The price however, seems to be reasonable and even more so if its a genuine Irish car. Rarely would you find an A124 that's any good for less than £7k in the UK and then there's the VRT on top so if the car here is straight and rust free, then €8000 is good and it wont have a daft reg number!

    Definitely not a bargain.

I remember it for sale on DD a while back, it was on a pallet and covered in birdsh*t

Not sure if this would actually be a bargain as no price is given.
It would be a pity if an original irish car in this condition went for export.
I love the way the door handle droops just like so many of this model!

Lovely example but that colour doesn't look like British Racing Green to me.

A picture of this car was posted when it was 'new in the showroom' on another thread a few years back: http://www.carzone.ie/used-cars/jaguar/xjs/used-1991-jaguar-xjs-cabrio-v12-dublin-fpa-201214523348402330

Since then, it has obviously led a sheltered life, covering only 22k miles. Most likely a car for export.
