    hi all , bit of a change from the zetors this time , we have decided to take on a project for my wife's uncle , he has been asking me to do this for quite a while so once we got the workshop empty we bit the bullet and got started , bear in mind she is very crispy having sat out beside the sea for most of her life , it has been mainly used to drive a post driver for the longest time but is mechanically perfect and going like an empty train , nay way im raveling again ill let the pictures do the talking .

    back again , thanks for all the comments and tips , well the cutting and measuring and bracing has started in earnest , we found out our first fatal mistake this morning , the cab section we got is off an earlier model ( obviously red and white ) but also a smaller model , maybe an 856 or something , anyway the rails underneath the cab are smaller and wont line up but we have come up with a cunning plan ( all will be revealed soon ) , anyhow some pics of todays progress .

    well guys back again after a frantic day , we started off this morning by rolling out the tractor for a good dousing in jizer and a decent steam off afterwards

    then it was time to tackle the cab head on , took a bit of lining up and tweaking but we got it to fit finally and welded her up , looks good i think ,

    the old bit was very shook when we finally got it out and is only fit for the scrap pile , the difference in the two part is obvious in these pictures , the main chassis rails underneath the cab are actually wider on the 956 cab to allow for the wider transmission im guessing but we managed to get it line up and now you wouldn't know the difference .

    GD, maybe turn up the flow on your gas a fair bit, turn the power up a little bit and balance the wire-feed rate accordingly - and grind back the paint another 5-10mm where you're welding - it'll leave the welds flatter, smoother and stronger, less burning and blackening and less paint contamination in the welds - run the welds as a series of looping eeeee's - plus it'll smell a lot nicer in the workshop..feckin lovely work though, your builds are one of the best things on Boards as far as I'm concerned!

    thanks for the tips DOS , the brother does the welding and our mig blew up last week so he is using a borrowed one from a mate , i could hear him cursing it every few minutes because he couldn't get the mix set up right on it but im not trying to make excuses , i know where you are coming from because it is left to me to clean up all the welds and tidier work would be a lot easier to clean and prep for paint . ah well i will have to get more flap discs !!

    back with a small update , we were busy all week with other projects and running and racing to different things so not much has been done really , we started to mock up the new bonnet which is a bit shorter than the original one ( all i could get at the time ) so we will have to chop the remaining good bit out of the original one and make it fit , we also had to move the hole for the exhaust as it was off by about an inch , some pics

    ok its update time again , things have been a bit slow in the workshop the last few days but we got back into it yesterday and did a bit of a mock up of some of the parts to make sure everything was lining up properly before we start to paint , so it was back on with the cab and the newly stretched bonnet .

    some amount of rubbing down gone into the bugger , we were adding up today that we have used / burnt out 15 of the little 4" wire brush heads for the small grinder and 6 of the big ones for the 9" grinder ,
    not to mention flap discs and sand paper ,

    spent the whole day today on the four wheels , split the centers out of them first and wire brushed them all then cleaned them down with a finer grit sand paper by hand then cleaned them with panel wipe and masked off the tyres ready for primer and paint tomorrow ,

    two different colors like original , hard work but hopefully it will all be worth it , no pictures yet because my phone is full so im waiting on the brother send me some from his phone .
    :fighting::fighting:

    roof on with new lamps , trying to sort out the rats nest that is the wiring now , its a wild mess with lots of previous butchering and hacking done to it , someone tried to bypass a lot of relays and switches and left a real fire hazard after them , im trying to get her as near back to original as i can with a new isolation switch fitted .

    glass all in , wiring all done , shes on the button now with all original gauges and switches re-instated and working like they should , gave her a full service all oils and filters and filled her with pure coolant , also we are starting to put some of the red bits back on her and i managed to get original replacement seat cushions for her ( pics to follow when they are out of the box ) , nearly there now bonnet on next and she will start looking like a tractor again .

    Unbelieveable work! It looks like it rolled off the production line in the factory. I wish I could find somebody like you to restore my old MF65.

    Are you a mechanic by trade or are you self taught?

    Love all your threads. Keep them coming.

    spent the day yesterday stripping and rebuilding a 3 ton mini digger for a man , she needed all new pins and bushings in the arm and bucket , some of them were a bit tricky but i think she came out well and a lot of the play and wear is gone , he want us to paint it in the near future so i will start a new thread when we start ,some pics .
