Still waiting on the arrival of my box but have a question for those with the Xtrend ET10000. Ideally I will out the box in a closed cabinet under the tv (with an ir repeater for the remote), with the only hole being a small one at the back for the power, satellite cables etc to get inside. Question is does the box run hot and would it be ok in a closed cabinet?

As an example there is no way I could put my xbox in the cabinet as it would overheat but xboxs do run exceptionally hot and need good ventilation/airflow.

It does run quite hot and I wouldn't recommend housing it in an enclosed space.

it would need venting with cool air in and hot air out.

Ordered an Xtrend ET10000 yesterday, thanks for the suggestions all. Really looking forward to getting it setup and running now. I went for 2xDVB-S2 and 2xDVB-C/T2 tuners so came to 276 euro over all including postage. hm-sat-shop.de were the cheapest I could find for it which again was suggested by a poster here so thanks for that.

Hopefully its as good as people have said now :D

Lads, this may be the wrong place altogether but basically i'm a newby when it comes to alternative tv setups. So I currently have UPC for tv, but looking to ditch it in the coming months. Hoping to get a box with all the free to air irish and english channels. Does a box like the Xtrend ET10000 cover that and more or what am I looking at?

Basically I'm starting my tv setup from scratch and looking at different alternatives. I have no Satelite dish atm but will get one if needed and have an internet connection. Sorry if I'm in totally the wrong thread!!

Thanks lads, its sort of what I expected. Where I was thinking of putting it would be totally enclosed with a door at the front (which I want closed) and just a hole big enough to fit a standard plug out through it at the back so there wouldn't be much ventilation. I've already got my blueray player and raspberry pi with its external HDD etc in there so was hoping to have the sat box with its external HDD in there also so everything was nice and tidy and in the one place. I could look into cutting out another section from the cabinet and adding a fan but not sure if its worth the effort or additional cost of finding a really quiet fan.

I'll just set the box up behind the cabinet instead, will still be out of sight and out of the way but just a little more awkward if wanting to move the cabinet out for access to the back and messier behind it etc

Don't know if anyone else is doing this with their E2 box but I thought this was pretty cool -

Downloaded an android app called Dream Player and we're now able to watch/control our Xtrend ET10000 on phone/tablet from pretty much anywhere around the house! Yesterday for example I was watching Cbeebies live in HD with my toddler in the garden - awesome!

Picture quality is perfect but it tends to crap out from time to time. Anyone using something similar or better?

dreamdroid is probably the best free android enigma2 app.

I use DreamPlayer on a €30 android TV player. This gives me perfect multiroom with HD picture quality. Can watch one channel in one room while watching another channel or recording in another room.

For DreamPlayer to work correctly make sure your tv player is Lollipop or higher.

Anyone using a raspberry pi to do this rather than an android device? I plan on doing this and wondering how well it works?

I have 2 x RPi 2's setup in each bedroom. Not recording on these just watch TV. Using the PVR client.

Can watch 1080p TV and all my recordings from my ET8000, also full EPG

    Works a treat

YOu need to have the following on your PI

MPEG2 and VC-1 licence from pi store. (http://www.raspberrypi.com/mpeg-2-license-key/)

Here is a guide to setting up those licences

Cheers, I'd forgotten about needing the additional licences. I have to get my box fully up and running first and will then move onto getting the pi up and running in another room.

Going to be doing it on a Pi B+ rather than a Pi2 but it should be able for it. My Pi2 does all my downloading and is connected to the same tv as the sat box will be for watching the downloads and also using some Kodi addons.

Probably easier to just grab an Amazon Fire TV Stick and put Dreamplayer on it:

It is very stable, I use it myself for the kids room.

It would probably work better on a FireTV but the FireTV Stick is fine for daily use too.

Plus you get all the other benefits of the FireTV Stick; Netflix and other apps etc.

Licences for mpeg2 well I've heard it all now. MPEG2 is only used on the SD UK FTA stations. You should be more concerned about MPEG4 H264 which is used for HD Channels and both SD and HD Saorview. Can you not find a free version of VLC that has all the codecs built in (MMAL and OpenMax Libraries). Also Vu+ Player HD is free on Playstore but will work with any e2 box.

Yes absolutly it would work perfectly. Better using a wired internet connection (Network Plugs) for reliability but Wifi can work also inthe right enviorment.

I use mine wirelessly and it works fine.

Easier but more fun with a Raspberry Pi

Hi Zardoz, what woul the engine be like in the mutant/ edision boxes? Would they have the capability to run the likes of Iptv without slowing the box down? Or slowing the Iptv down for that matter?

    750MHZ processor. Lowish NAND.

If you want to go down the IPTV route get something with at least 1300MHZ processor.

We were discussing a raspberry pi and streaming to it not decoding tv stations directly. It runs Linux not android so android apps don't run on it and the codecs need to be paid for simple as that.

I need one of the licences to watch a tv series I have downloaded also (older series with limited download options) as it won't play currently so a few euro for buying them isn't a big deal.

What do you think I was talking about ?

I know what you are running it on.

If you have a proper compiled version of VLC and are running WEBIF to stream from the box, why should you need licences. VLC has MPEG-2, MPEG-4/H.264 SD and HD L3 and 4 codecs built in.

I did a lot of digging before when I couldn't plant the files on the tv series I mentioned and the only solution I came across for playing them in kodi on the pi was to buy the license never saw a mention of vlc player on the pi.

The reference to VU+HD player earlier for Android devices was as an alternative for those who didnt want to use the Dream app which was discussed a few posts before yours.
