Ideally I will out the box in a closed cabinet under the tv (with an ir repeater for the remote), with the only hole being a small one at the back for the power, satellite cables etc to get inside. Question is does the box run hot and would it be ok in a closed cabinet? As an example there is no way I could put my xbox in the cabinet as it would overheat but xboxs do run exceptionally hot and need good ventilation/airflow.
Tyson Some Rifle wrote: » Ordered an Xtrend ET10000 yesterday, thanks for the suggestions all. Really looking forward to getting it setup and running now. I went for 2xDVB-S2 and 2xDVB-C/T2 tuners so came to 276 euro over all including postage. hm-sat-shop.de were the cheapest I could find for it which again was suggested by a poster here so thanks for that. Hopefully its as good as people have said now

Yesterday for example I was watching Cbeebies live in HD with my toddler in the garden - awesome! Picture quality is perfect but it tends to crap out from time to time. Anyone using something similar or better?

Can watch 1080p TV and all my recordings from my ET8000, also full EPG Works a treat YOu need to have the following on your PI MPEG2 and VC-1 licence from pi store. (http://www.raspberrypi.com/mpeg-2-license-key/) Here is a guide to setting up those licenceshttp://www.howtogeek.com/137654/how-to-add-mpeg-2-and-vc-1-video-codec-support-to-your-raspberry-pi/ BobbyT28

reni10 wrote: » It is very stable, I use it myself for the kids room. It would probably work better on a FireTV but the FireTV Stick is fine for daily use too. Plus you get all the other benefits of the FireTV Stick; Netflix and other apps etc.
Tyson Some Rifle wrote: » Cheers, I'd forgotten about needing the additional licences. I have to get my box fully up and running first and will then move onto getting the pi up and running in another room. Going to be doing it on a Pi B+ rather than a Pi2 but it should be able for it. My Pi2 does all my downloading and is connected to the same tv as the sat box will be for watching the downloads and also using some Kodi addons.

STB. wrote: » Licences for mpeg2 well I've heard it all now. MPEG2 is only used on the SD UK FTA stations. You should be more concerned about MPEG4 H264 which is used for HD Channels and both SD and HD Saorview. Can you not find a free version of VLC that has all the codecs built in (MMAL and OpenMax Libraries). Also Vu+ Player HD is free on Playstore but will work with any e2 box.
Tyson Some Rifle wrote: » We were discussing a raspberry pi and streaming to it not decoding tv stations directly. It runs Linux not android so android apps don't run on it and the codecs need to be paid for simple as that. I need one of the licences to watch a tv series I have downloaded also (older series with limited download options) as it won't play currently so a few euro for buying them isn't a big deal.
STB. wrote: » What do you think I was talking about ? I know what you are running it on. If you have a proper compiled version of VLC and are running WEBIF to stream from the box, why should you need licences. VLC has MPEG-2, MPEG-4/H.264 SD and HD L3 and 4 codecs built in.
Tyson Some Rifle wrote: » I did a lot of digging before when I couldn't plant the files on the tv series I mentioned and the only solution I came across for playing them in kodi on the pi was to buy the license never saw a mention of vlc player on the pi.
