Top Gear's Jeremy Clarkson suspended by BBC over 'fracas' with producer

    http://gu.com/p/46gv2

A BBC spokeswoman said: “Following a fracas with a BBC producer, Jeremy Clarkson has been suspended pending an investigation.

“No one else has been suspended. Top Gear will not be broadcast this Sunday. The BBC will be making no further comment at this time.”

Top Gear is usually recorded on a Tuesday, hopefully this isn't some PC crowd or overbearing health and safety nonsense. Why can't May and Hammond just do it on their own, unless they siding with Jeremy

I know the Bbc are really damn stupid, but surely they aren't stupid enough to sack him?

    England would fall

He really has the iq of a donkey.

Actually, he really doesn't. He's a master of controversy, and quite an insightful and powerful presenter when he wants to be. As for this situation, I'd say Clarkson is pretty much invincible in the BBC as long as the viewers are there, and that this 'last warning' nonsense is just that, a nonsense token to appease his critics.

He'll be back in time for the next Top Gear. :)

What is Piers Morgan up to these days? You know, if they're going shopping for a new host ...

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

The part before an audience is recorded on a Tuesday, but Clarkson would have been in the prerecorded pieces.

Uh-oh: Piers seems to be thinking along the same lines:

Probably bound to happen. Suppose one unwritten rule of TV is that what the producer says flies, or else.

An 'oh cock' moment, or another publicity stunt? Seems unlikely.

They fairly threw him under the bus on the BBC news at 10 I'd say he's out.

Didn't see the TV bulletin, but they're not being OTT on Radio 4. They're talking to the guy who voices Clarkson when the show is shown in Iran.

Apparently the producer in question is from Carrickmacross.

I was enjoying Top Gear this season, I went off it a bit over the last few seasons, Wouldn't have cared last year but gonna miss it now if it doesn't air Sunday.

The Mirror is reporting that this is a row about no food being available at the end of a day of filming.

i know he can be a bit over the top but if the bbc sack him im sure itv will snap him up in a second . if the other to follow him then the bbc will be making a huge error. top gear is sold nearly everywhere in the world

He was on a final warning if he made another offensive remark.

This involves something else, namely a fight with his own staff.

I think they'll let him away with it, TG is such a big draw. Have to agree with dickwod1 above, I thought this year was a big improvement on the past few years, though overall it seems to be running out of energy.

The final programmes will be broadcast at some stage after the dust dies down.

This eventually had to happen as he is out of control & is so arrogant that he thinks he's some sort of untouchable legend.
What's shocks me though is that over 150,000 people have already signed a petition to get him reinstated.
It's a very disturbing picture of the British psyche that this right wing bigot is so popular there.
Condoning the behavior of this obnoxious aggressive bigot sends out a message to people that they can be like that & get away with it.

I don't think this the end for him though, either the BBC will sort this out, or the as is suggested in the an Irish Times article they take the whole thing under a different name to Sky. Apparently Sky have been courting the three amigos for some time and as Clarkson writes for both the Sun and Sunday Times it would make sense.

Well, the last Snickers ad campaign must have been effective, since I suspected - corrrectly - that they would use this to their advantage:

    B_6ikvOW8AACCRr.jpg

Now I've had a chance to think about this a bit more: this suspension is already costing Jezza a lot of money, as it should, and I think that's the way out of this mess. Advise Jezza to make a hefty donation to a charity of Oisin's choice, and I'm sure both will jump at the chance. Assuming Jezza wants to return: the news that he sold his shares a few months ago adds to the impression that he wants out.

I'm not a fan of Noel Edmonds, but he makes some interesting points about the BBC's handling of the situation.
“You have to laugh at the sheer incompetence of BBC management,” he said. “Here is a hugely popular production, arguably one of the BBC’s most valuable productions, which is apparently being pulled from the schedule because of one of the presenters [being] involved in an incident. Top Gear has multiple hosts and it is not as if the whole show is live and the content is created on a single day. So why not just re-edit what they have got and let the other two presenters continue? I find BBC’s position extraordinary in that on the one hand they say that Clarkson is not bigger than the BBC but on other hand they pull the show which rather suggests he is”.

JC isn't just a presenter though. He part owns the production company that makes the show too so surely the Beeb can't work with a company whose part owner allegedly assaulted one of its staff.

They bought the controlling stake in the production company but the other 2 still own a share of Bedder6 so he is still more than a presenter

The BBC bought Clarkson and Wilman out of Bedder6 in 2012 (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/bbc/9571854/Jeremy-Clarkson-set-for-15m-windfall.html). Clarkson has been on a standard 3-year BBC talent contract since then.

Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson initiated the BBC investigation which prompted his suspension, after he informed BBC bosses of the alleged "fracas".

BBC News understands that the star phoned BBC head of television, Danny Cohen, to report the incident.

Producer Oisin Tymon, with whom the altercation took place, is not believed to have filed his own complaint.

Interviews are expected to be held with the star and other parties next week, and the show has been taken off-air.

Clarkson has expressed regret over the incident, which his co-presenter James May labelled "a bit of a dust-up".

The investigation by Ken MacQuarrie has no time limit, considering the presenters contracts finish at the end of the month, any possible "punishment" by the inquiry could well be meaningless. I don't expect the series finale to be aired either. Sad days for one of the BBCs better shows!

so maybe thats why he punched him??

maybe the guy was getting on his nerves and in the back of his mind Clarkson said what the hell i'm leaving soon i might as well deck him now

(btw - not condoning what he did)

Well Jeremy claims he's fired but knowing him it's a way to trump up more headlines for his comeback; esp. as his colleagues have refused to finish filming without him (indicating that they expect him back).

Won't be the same without Jezza. End of. Hope Hammo and Captain Slow leave as well. The BBC are a bunch of mad left wing liberal socialist loons (I should know since I live over there) and this was the proverbial last straw - any excuse to get rid of him as he hasn't fitted in with BBC tree hugging uber liberal bias for a very long time. It's well known that he and the director of BBC TV do not get on (to put it very mildly).

That said, Jezza is far from innocent - it's never right to punch someone at work - ever. In his defence, he reported the incident himself and tried on numerous occasions to speak to Oisín to try and reconcile and apologise, but couldn't.

Well the mad left wing socialist tree huggers didn't really need an excuse, since Clarkson did it all himself. In most work places you get sacked if you punch someone. Shame he'd do something idiotic like this.

Right now, the silence from both Clarkson and the BBC says more than any statement might. So ... who wants to see Chris Evans or Jodie Kidd in the job?
