I'd be happy if someone highlighted rusty or corroded brake lines on my car. I sure as hell wouldn't spray paint them to cover them up for a retest.

Sorry kkv but I'd have to agree with the lads you spray painted rusty brake line as a precaution it's madness tbh. It is one thing you shouldn't neglect regardless of whether the car is cheap or not maybe you don't realise what would happen if a brake line blew to bits and you were traveling 100kmh.

Yeah I wouldn't cheap out on brakes.

My mother recently wrote off the car due to brake failure. The dashcam footage is not pretty

I had engine failure at 120kmh on a busy motorway in the overtaking lane and even that wasn't too nice of an experience and that's a long way off brake failure.

I've heard of people swap tyres for ncts and then but back on their bald tyres once they pass. I mean do some people genuinely believe that buying new tyres is some kind of scam and that bald tyres will last forever

Parking permits are bullsh*t! Management company expect me to display a permit along with NCT, insurance, tax disks and N-plates.......

When I bought my 106 a while ago, I had to get new tyres straight away as they were badly worn. When the tyre guy changed them out, he came over and gave out stink to me. My car was a 2000 reg, I changed the tyres in 2014 and the manufacture date on the tyre was... 1993  The previous owner had the same tyres on it from the day it was sold... mind blowing.

    Jaysus..

If the lines were dangerous I'd have them fixed. It was surface rust that was sanded and painted. This was advised by two mechanics and posters on here!

Yes, the tints are illegal. But they'll be staying one way or the other. If i take them off, I'll most likely replace them with darker ones. Focus is as safe as can be. I'd rather not have the hassle of spending an hour getting new tints put on if I don't have to.

I'm amazed that no one else on here has tints on their car.

I have tints here but only on the back. Keep in mind you need to declare window tint to your insurance company.

I'm not sure how it would go down if you were involved in a claim with front side window tints.

Rear tints are legal (im getting some limo tints in next week) but front side and windscreen tints are 100% illegal for good reasons.

People are just concerned that between questionable brake lines and partworn tyres you might well be not only pursuing a false economy but taking your life and the lives of other road users in your own hands.

I enjoy your posts and what you contribute here but maybe rethink your approach.

Without trying to be funny, have you ever had (or drove) a car with front window tints? Unless you're at 'take the piss' levels with limo tint on the front, it literally makes no difference whatsoever.

When I had the Rav4 I had overly darkened front windows (can't remember the % of light transmission but they were almost blackout). In day to day driving they made literally no difference whatsoever. The only time they gave issue was at night time in areas with no/poor lighting. If there was poor street lighting, for example, you'd have to put the window down to get a good look at the wing mirrors (as they could be tough to see through the darkened glass with no light nearby to illuminate them).

The front tints I have on the focus are quite light as they are (I'd say they were borderline passable, to be honest), so I'll definitely be replacing them (possibly with darker ones) if I take them off.

I'm all for road safety, but I'm all for practicality too. If I thought the brake lines or tints were dangerous, I'd have had them removed/fixed/replaced (or whatever the necessary course of action may be in each scenario). I'm not going to kill myself for the price of a night out. At the same time, if 2 mechanics tell me that the brake lines are fine and it's surface rust that is quite common to appear on Focus' of that age, and a quick sanding and spraying will be fine, then I'm not going to replace them.

It's like people saying you shouldn't drive after having only 3-4 double whiskeys, when in reality it's completely harmless.

(yes, that last line is sarcasm...)

Remove the window switch. Window tints can't be seen, and I'v never seen a tester check that the windows work. :D

As for the brake lines, in fairness I'v seen them fail if there's any hint of a bit of surface rust. Quick sand and a shot of paint later and they're fine.

Obviously if the rust is serious the need replacing!

So to see out of your car at night time you had to put the windows down, and you don't see that being a problem?

    Thought the same thing!
KKV i too enjoy your marathon posts on here but it seems you are a touch haphazard.
In the day yes they make no difference but I've seen it first hand how bad it is at night.

and you'd be ****ed if you had auto dimming mirrors on top of any tint

Add window tint and darkness to rain and you'll see the dangers quick enough ;)

Same happened me today a Toyota of some sorts was right up behind me for a few miles, there was plenty of times for him to overtake but he didn't, I'm pretty sure he was just trying to get a good view of my German car.

Ok this is going too far.

I almost got t-boned by a Hyundai driver today. She decided people coming from the right have to her so she puts the boot down and tries to get ahead.

She must have wanted a more premium brand like my Toyota :pac:

That's not what I said, though?

I said, with very dark tints, to reverse at night in a poorly lit area you'd need to lower your window to see the wing mirror clearly.

To be honest, I never had any issue with rain and tints (night or day)?

The 407 and Rav4 both had fairly dark front tints (407's werent too bad but the Rav's were fairly heavy). Aside from the specific example above, I never really had any issues with window tints on the fronts. I never really find/found them to obstruct my view (except what I mentioned above, obviously).

To each their own, but in my experience of window tints, I don't find them hazardous at all, and I certainly never had any accidents or mishaps on the road that I could say were caused by tints. I've never bumped into anything or scratched against anything or had my vision obstructed when on the road to the extent that I thought "hmm, maybe those tints were a bad idea".

So I'll keep with them.. All I was asking was would an NCT tester turn a blind eye to them in a real-world situation (where everyone involved knows there will be tints on the car an hour after the visual test, one way or the other). :P
