Reading this thread made me miss OFAH and Father Ted. We really dont have shows like that anymore :(

Another favorite comedy charactor for me was Mr Bean. I know it is a bit dated now, but when you first saw the show he was brilliant...

    A trio.

Eddie, Joan and old Tommy in Early Doors.

Agree with Bertie Wooster. He's better again in the books.

Has some great rants and wonderfully pessimistic lines; but he's also pretty much always in the right, clearly much more genuinely intelligent than most british sitcom characters and is regularly shown to have quite good intentions. David Renwick clearly had a strong affinity for the character that's apparent throughout.

I find it weird that One Foot in the Grave seems to never get mentioned by anyone anymore. People's recollections of it as being like Keeping Up Appearances and the like are quite off so that could be why, the show has some genuinely fantastic silly and dark humour littered throughout. I rewatched it all a few years ago and was crying with laughter at a lot of episodes, really surprised me. Basically every episode in series 2-5 is constructed incredibly well.

Probably mentioned already - Sergeant Ernie Bilko - class never grows old.

I recall an extract from the TV pages of the NME back in the mid-eighties, with a comment under The Phil Silvers Show which read - "A pearl amongst pig sh!t".

Cat in fridge, plant in downstairs toilet, the tortoise, Mrs. Warboyce shutting his vegetable in the door. Brilliant!
