As my local time is closing on midnight I may not be around when people make guesses. If somebody looking in would like to be the host for this round, PM me before 0900h your time and I'll let you know where this is. Then you could comment on guesses. I will check back around then. Maybe somebody will get it before that anyway.

No -- three minor clues I can offer at this point, the weather that you see is very typical of this location, and the landmark is of national historical significance.

Quite often we can see the directional arrow in the pictures, I did not include it here, but you are looking due south.

I will now be around until everyone is tucked in and dreaming of tomorrow's picture.

Think it could be somewhere in Chile.

It could be but it isn't.

It could be but it isn't.

Argh... looking at the sky and you saying the weather was normal there I thought it could be the south of Chile. Now I'm stumped unless its a mountainous country like Bolivia I give up :D.

Not Bolivia, mountains are some distance from this city although the country has plenty (so you can rule out anything ending in guay now).

The weather isn't great, its not Chile and its not mountainous Bolivia, I'm out. I'll throw Venezuela into the mix as a parting shot.

Sorry, not Venezuela. South America has 13 countries and we have now ruled out seven.

If its mountainous, given those we've ruled out, its one of three. I won't spoil it for others by naming all of them though so I'll go with Peru. I won't win though as I'm off to bed :).

    Quito, Ecuador

It is in Peru, which should make the next step fairly easy. Coastal Peru gets a lot of low overcast due to the cold water of the Humboldt Current off the coastline.

For the win, you'll need to say where in the chosen city this view is. Hint, if you look at the picture and get a sense of the layout, it is not difficult to spot near the centre of the city on a fairly wide grid (when you have 1-2 km of the city in view you'll likely see the layout).

At least tell us is it Lima?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,467 ✭✭✭Very Bored

Where in the city is stretching it too far for me. I'm out. I barely know Peru exists nevermind knowing parts of cities there.

Lima is correct. Can you spot the location (it is near the centre of the city)?

    Plaza Francisco Bolognesi

Poster above me has got it. Getting us to guess some spot in Lima was pushing it a bit, for me at least, its not like its Rio. Drat, and I had a really good picture to put up and all.

    Thanks M.T...

I have just about seen every statue of Simon Bolivar tonight.
He usually was sat on a horse it seems.

Instead you picked a statue of a dude who sounds like he played left back for Juve. :(

    Good pic.

Yes, confirming that guess and on to the next round. You guys can discuss among yourselves who won and who should post, it was a group effor there. BTW, not pushing it for a location, the object of the game is to find the exact location on google earth. We have let some go in smaller towns but in a big city I feel that a location is required, otherwise somebody can guess it without applying any search.

But I'm not sure if that's in the official rules or just my own impression. The other thread often deals with much smaller towns where, if somebody says the town and it is confirmed, usually not very hard to find it yourself but in Lima, somebody could spend quite a while looking for that spot. If you are looking, just look on the city wide image for a circular plaza with five spokes which is quite unusual compared to most of the city.

I had ruled out Lima earlier on as I thought it would too big and was looking for something more obscure :). I'm too 'new' to post a link, having only been around since 2008, so I'm out for the picture but will happily continue guessing.

Didn't mean anything by the last comment, just that my knowledge of South America is pretty sketchy as it is, getting as far as Lima was doing well for me ;).

OK, no-one has put one up and the user who guessed the last one (well done, btw) says he can't post one so I'll put my neck out and give you this one.
