Insuremyvan usually comes out with the best quotes, but axa has been best for me this time round.

I was with FBD for years (after moving from Axa). A few years ago they raised my policy from €400 to €750. No claims, no accidents, nothing in that time. I left and went back to Axa as they were offering the best price.

Did they give a reason for the rise? Did you make any claims since the last renewal? Curious, because it happened to me for no reason, my Father (in his 60's) had the same thing.

No reason , with broker for 10 years and they just jack it up , says rates are gone up , we can knock €25 off for you is what they said

    Well crap.

Just got my renewal in the post this morning. Gone from €402 to €880 (with 10% discount if i renew online). Rang them and asked why as i've the max no claims bonus, no claims in over 10 years (only one accident in 20 years of driving and that was a collision with a crash barrier at 10mph), no other claims for windscreens etc, and with them for a few years. I was told they are raising their fees across the board. I told the lady that is not an answer and why are they raising mine and others for no reason. She guessed it was due to the higher amount of claims from the previous year(s).

I find it hard to believe that out of (pure guess) 2.2 million drivers that the amount of insurance payments is eclipsed by the amount paid out in claims. Some insurance companies posted profits in excess of €250 million last year.

So i went online to check. I'm 37, full no claims bonus, cheap car, locked/alarmed garage, alarm & immobiliser on car, etc. Here are the quotes i got:
    • Zurich - No online quote
    • 123 - €502
    • FBD - €520
    • Nononsense - €610
    • Allianz - €390

All were the same details. Fully comp, no claims bonus protection, break down service, windscreen protection, etc, etc.

Here is the kicker. I done an online check for Axa. The quote i got was €570. Now i know they give better deals for new customers, but how can it cost €880 (or €310 more) to insure me, an existing customer with known and proven track record, than someone with the same details. IF we are the same then surely the cost to insure us is the same? Also it's a 120% increase in my premium.

    Feckin ridiculous.

Sounds mysterious! Does it involve something more extreme than shopping around?
