Changes to operation of Random Thread

I've stopped using this forum almost completely. I take a look every few months and actual discussion of photography seems to be non-existant. I'd love to post photos here, and I've posted some in the past that people don't seem to like at all, despite me seeing at least a little merit in them (I make no claims about being a great photographer.) I would love to discuss them though. However it seems a bit ridiculous to start a new thread for every photo when it'll probably get two comments at most. And then only getting two comments would discourage you from ever starting a thread for C&C again.

I really don't understand why there can't be a general megathread for any picture where you want a critique. If you want to encourage critique you could make it so you can't post a photo without critiquing another photo. And as already been pointed out in here you don't need to be a master photographer to point out that a photo is out-of-focus, has an uneven horizon or the buildings are skewed. And there's plenty of photos where something that basic needs to be pointed out.

We had a thread for "shredding an image" which is virtually a megathread for CC as you say but that seems to have died also. I guess Im part of the problem in a way. I want to post images for CC but I dont feel qualified to CC others work.
Plus there are some people that say they want CC but get can get overly defensive.... (not saying that is you btw)

I agree with several people saying why not include 'no C&C please' (or similar) if you don't want comments.
And if somebody wants to comment on a photo it's a lot of effort to post a new thread.
I'm happy with people giving comments in the random thread, think it adds to the thread.

This is the image shredder thread - was a great idea and I'd love to see it active again! As I was the last image posted though I don't want to clog it up.. any volunteers?

I think it's clear that we have to revisit the way this operates. The aim is to set the environment where more discussion around images occurs, in a polite and positive manner.

Current thoughts are;

- Keep the Random Thread for images only.
- Use the "Shredder" as a general place for C&C of images, either directly or from the Random Thread.
- Keep an option of opening a specific C&C Thread.
- Discuss moving the "C&C Welcome" from Opt in to an Opt Out ie. The default would be C&C is welcome unless noted with "No C&C Please"
