Wrll it's getting very good reviews from the other side of the Atlantic.

Cursed twitter, I should've stayed well clear of it.

"So in the next scene we have a singalong involving Bob, Lizzie, Mika, The Governor and Beth on guitar......"

It's at this point that the other writers in the room probably should have spoken up. They didn't. :p

didnt like that episode to be honest.

    I am
    suprised Tyreese diead

    I also really hated
all the flashing back and forward and hallucinations, found it quite difficult to follow

An oddball of an episode which mixed the good with the bad but overall because of how it ended will stay with me for a long time. The scene when the car slowed and they dragged Tyreese's body out was so powerful. And when they showed his little hat on his grave I'm not ashamed to say that more than a tear or two sprung to my eye! Even though it had been flagged during the episode it was still shocking to see him die.

That ending packed way more of an emotional punch than Beth dying. He was just such a lovable character if a bit mishandled in comparison to the version of him in the comics (but that's another discussion). But I thought he would have been around a lot longer in the show and I hope it doesn't suffer as a result.

The hallucinations scenes were fairly ridiculous (Beth's singing is just laughable) but the bite scene was maddening...how did he let his guard down like that, especially knowing there was another walker in the room next door?!

Apparently two months has passed on the show since Beth's death so it will be interesting to see how losing her and Tyreese in such a short space of time affects the group. Also, I wonder what the 'wolves not far' sign means...a group of savages out on the road perhaps? It seems the group are now going to Washington after all so hopefully things can get moving.

I liked it bit all over the shop and not much more than filler bar the untimely demise. Episode dragged a small bit in the middle, loved the slowmo scene thought it looked class and the end was kinda sad.

No idea why they did the show the future at the start thingy, just seemed pointless doing it as a one off, nice episode to ease back in but they could do with a pacier episode next or at least one with some plot development.

What's the deal with the van full of zombie torsos? Odd one that. Was wondering why there were just legs and arms left at the hole in the wall.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,064 ✭✭✭irishfeen

I thought that was very very good - utter despair seems to be setting in as they really don't know what the hell they are going to do now. Surprised to see such a big character going... what I take from them showing those who have already died is that however far they run, how many they kill, however good or bad they live ... they are all doomed to the same faith.

Yeah and all the scorch marks around the houses in the gated community they found made it somewhat clear that there were other humans involved in the destruction.

Also, what was the story with the radio? Is there some sort of government after being formed or was that part of the hallucinations? A throwback to his childhood when his father listened to the radio in the car? The accent sounded English so it didn't really make sense.

black guy dies first this season. Was very very unimpressed.

I took it that the radio was in his head and it was repeating what he hears at the beginning of the outbreak. I think it had something to do with the point he made about staying put, listening to the radio but it ultimately led to the death of his wife or somebody

Another character I feel no connection with dies, boohoo. :) Voted a 5, poor stuff imo. Somehow I feel the conversations about there past lifes not believeable/real, whether thats poor acting or a poor script, or both. Get an awful urge to skip those scenes

Fairly glad Tyreese bought the farm tbh! In the comics, the character was amazing. In the show, he was a whiney bore. Every episode, he had a face on him when pretty much ANYTHING happened. I'm surprised he made it this far.

Extremely disappointed with that. It brought nothing to the show imo. They killed off a relatively good character just for the sake of it. Terrible start to the second half of the season, and definitely one of the worst episodes so far. The only redeeming part was the slow mo scene near the end.

I was thinking, once they saw the legs and arms of the zombies by the hole in the wall, that some fooked up people had strapped bombs to the chests of the zombies and used them as walking dynamite. Nope. Nothing that interesting. And then have a car full of the torsos. Unless it goes on to explain that, it was a wasted opportunity.

I don't really care about Tyrese to be honest. I found his annoyingly long hallucination/death scene to be very tedious.

I found this to one of the best episodes of the show in my opinion. The editing and the way it was put together was very much to my liking.

I'd say it will continue very straightforward after this. Travelling, fighting zombies etc.

At least there is someone who agrees with me - I thought the episode was brilliant and a change away from simply killing the walkers.. I think it shows how the show is entering the despair/no hope phase.

Just another crap actor....show is awash with them, bar Rick /Daryll /the Guvnor and a handful of others it's mostly ham and cheese

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,084 ✭✭✭✭Kirby

The problem is they have all amalgamated into one character. Describe them....seriously. How much range is an actor allowed to show here?

Rick. Well he's a former cop who through a serious of harrowing experiences has become a battle hardened survivor, but he still has a conscience.

Carl. Well he's a former brat who through a serious of harrowing experiences has become a battle hardened survivor, but he still has a conscience.

Daryll. Well he's a former bum who was always a battle hardened survivor, but through a serious of harrowing experiences has become a group member with a conscience.

Glenn. Well he's a former nerd who through a serious of harrowing experiences has become a battle hardened survivor, but he still has a conscience.

Michonne. Well she's a former mom who through a serious of harrowing experiences has become a battle hardened survivor, but she still has a conscience.

Carol. Well she's a former abused wife who through a serious of harrowing experiences has become a battle hardened survivor, but she still has a conscience as evidenced by her anguish over the prison murders.

And so on and so on. I'm not saying any of them are Oscar worthy, but the cast are all so similar at this stage that it can be tough to show your acting chops unless you are over doing it like Andrew Lincoln does.

Apart from the short slow-mo bit, which was excellent, I thought that although different it was a poor episode, one event stretched out to fill an episode. Bye Tyreese, you'll not be missed.

it wasn't from the start of the outbreak, it was the news that was on the radio that he remembered from a time he was with his dead when he was little, about some grim thing that happened in some faraway place.

Not much in day to day use, but they do have the Battle Hymn of "The Republic" which gets played a lot at those bull**** political rallies they have in the States in the run up to presidential elections.

    Bom-bom-bee-dom-bom-bee-dom-bee-dom-bee-da-da

Course if the radio speaker is English, they may be referring to this country as "The Republic", or even France. The CDC episode at the end of first season mentioned the French working on the virus. ;-)
Seriously though, I think this Republic stuff is going to tie in with the expected upcomimg spinoff of TWD, and this is the beginning of the groundwork.

I liked it. It was very different from previous episodes and I didn't mind that it just stuck with one group. The hallucinations worked for me and was good to see the two little girls and Bob, not to mention the Guv! Noah's gonna feel a bit of guilt I'd imagine after making Tyrese chase him and go into the house.

There seems to be something vicious going down at that neighbourhood, deliberate fires, bodies sliced in half scattered around and also torsos harvested in trucks. Was I imagining this or did one of the Walkers have a metallic protector/halo around its head when Michonne went to do it in?! Also thought that some of the trees in the adjoining forest seemed to have bloody guts high up in them.

I liked Tyrese, a gentle giant and a good bloke but Gareth's henchman was right, his lack of killer instinct and aversion to conflict cost him.

The beanie hat on the cross got to me :(

Was a great episode also the stuff on the radio was cool i didnt further than the start of Washington in the comics so i wont have a clue whats coming now, sounds like some power struggles with large military style groups.

Beth I didn't two fiddlers about but not Cutty. NOT CUTTY!!!!

The Governor/kids/bills stuff was a bit meh but the last 5 minutes was excellent I thought. Maybe should have kept the hallucination stuff till the end and make it mean more.

The beanie on the grave was probably the second closest thing to Merle in terms of just gutting me. Tyreese was pretty much symbolism that no out and out decent people will last without being ruthless.

    Great season so far.

Thought it was excellent... liked the hallucinations but thought it was esp good at showing the despair in the strong characters and the desperation to find something.

like the sound of Washington but think it'll take a while to get out of where they are what with someone cutting zombies in two etc..

also were these zombies faster and stronger than recently...? not sure...

think episode showed what must be the constant effort to keep on keeping on as family and friends die and nothing gets better for long.. ...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,640 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Very disappointed that they killed off Tyreese. He seemed to me to be one of the few who had kept his humanity, and that was one of the reasons why I was worried he might not last long; but I didn't expect him to die now.

Also, unlike a lot of others, I liked that they took their time with his death. It felt like was a way to lead the viewer into thinking he would actually survive. After his arm was cut, I was sure he was going to make it.

I thought the ending with the deceased characters in the car was a clever take on a death scene. The final scene did make my eyes well up. Gonna miss the character. It sucks because I liked Beth too. They're aren't too many left that I care about a great deal.

Strange episode, when it was good it was fantastic but did drag at times. It was a good episode in terms of showing the despair amongst the characters and also how 'no one is safe'.

My first reaction to Tyreese was disappointment. I liked the character, and thought it was a low key way to go out, but the more I thought about it, I think my like for him mostly came from comic book Tyreese. The TV character was never quite the hammer wielding badass we wanted to see & at the same time was never as good of a moral compass as Herschel... so although I thought Chad Coleman did a good job with what he was given, I don't think the show will miss him given another week or two. Sasha must be looking over her shoulder now!

On a side note, did anyone else think the camera focused far too long on Glen holding the baseball bat. A little wink and a nod from the producers to the comic book readers maybe.

It was a piece of rebar iron that was hidden by hair. Shows that a mis hit with a weapon can endanger someone else.

I half thought the hole in the wall was caused by explosies.

Guess Wolves Not Far spray paint might hae something to do with the W's carved into the truck zombies heads.

Not the best episode, 6.5 from me (rounded to 6 for the poll.)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 504 ✭✭✭terryduff12

Some utter muck standing around like a gobs***e looking at a wall while the quietest slowest zombie manages to creep up on him, Knew something was going to happen to him, when he was driving the camera was in his face and he barley keep his eyes on the road, was sure he was gonna crash into something. First 8 episodes were good for a change this season. This was just back to the dribble that they try and fill out the season

That was a pretty boring episode, all that was established in that episode was they are going to Washington, that could have been established in a 2 minute conversation.

Michonne: Let's stay in this spot.

Rick: No this place is crap. Look at the crappy crap everywhere.

Michonne: Well what about Washington? It's got loads of important people there and sure we are close by, there might be a class gaf party or something.

    Rick: Sound, let's go.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,748 ✭✭✭✭Lovely Bloke

Couple of things about the Radio voice.

    1. It was a news report about people being chopped up by "rebels" - just like the bodies/Z's in the truck and outside the fallen wall.
    2. It was actually Andrew Lincoln speaking.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 433 ✭✭JR6

Terrible episode imo... I rated it a 3 but that was being kind. Was expecting much better. Agree with previous poster that they are putting in this crap to fill episodes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 416 ✭✭obriendj

I found this episode quite good. It was not amazing and a bit of a filler but enjoyed it.

We know that being bitten gives you an infection that kills but we don't know how this effects your thinking. Given Tyresse's conscience and how he always tried to do the right thing it was never going to be a simple death.

I thought it was well shot almost like the Danny Boyle movie Sunshine.

I did think that (at least) one of the twins was going to be alive tho. Governor turn Zombie was cool

I actually loved this bit because I think it was emphasising that whatever the characters are going through they are just one group of people existing in this new world. There are all these other groups out there with their own ideas about how to survive and what's right and wrong.
Like we saw the legs and arms and we all thought where are the torsos? Then when the torsos fall out of the van we can say oh right thats where they are, but we're still left wondering what in gods name happened to make people think this was a reasonable thing to do.

Terrible episode. As someone said, the list of characters you can care about now grows thin. I'm not sure I'm even bothered about the rest of them and I think I only liked Tyreese cos he was Cutty in The Wire :pac: I'd say Daryl is probably the one character left I like.
