It's probably like the Beerfest at the IFSC in that they weren't allowed to use class. I think that was an insurance issue?

That have have been due to the venue owners

So they are plastic as they are Eco cups

True enough but I also asked Alltech themselves.
Their response was "Recommended 4 tokens (5euro) = pint under 7% ABV, half pint over 7%ABV"

Obviously the "recommended" part could mean anything. It would be a ridiculous situation if they're selling pints for the equivalent of nine euro when within walking distance you could find plenty of pubs selling craft beer for half that price. It would really take the good out of the festival.

You can't find a good percentage of the beer in any pub here. It's a specialist beer festival, not somewhere to get sloshed on the cheap

He's entitled to query the price of the pints without being accused of looking for somewhere to "get sloshed on the cheap".

    That's ridiculous snobbery.

Oh, he doesn't like people questioning the price of any beer and simply abhors anyone complaining about prices. It's sooo common!

It looks like pints are going to be €5
BTW, I suspect, not a single exhibitor will turn a profit at this event.

I'm going on Saturday. I see Blacks will have a whiskey and a rum edition of Model T. Haven't seen much else that's special yet.

I believe that there will be a distilled Hi Viz IPA.
A hop vodka! That should be interesting!

Really? Oh well, my bad. Thanks for clearing that up for me. Looks like it's the canal harbor and six cans of Dutch Gold for me this Saturday after all. Hope you enjoy the specialist beer festival.

So, this time tomorrow I'll be most of the way up the M7. What beers should I be looking to sample first? Limited editions, not usually available in Ireland, etc.

Aren't they charging outrageous amounts to have a stand at it? Someone said to me it could be up to €10k, but that sounds too insane to be the actual cost.

looking forward to tomorrow. I wish hardknott were at it this year, I heard they had a stall last year

It's gluten free, but even if it wasn't it's a great beer.

I'm really intrigued to try it. I've a friend who's allergic to gluten and the few gluten free beers I've tried before haven't been that nice. Plus its brewdog, they rarely get it wrong

Black's randled Hi Viz is really good, as is their rum aged version of Model T.
One of the Hungarian breweries has a very nice dark sour ale - think Flanders red.
Jack Cody's cream stout is lovely.
Beavertown have a really interesting low abv sour weiss with gin botanicals. Really good with a drop of gin - they're recommending Blackwater gin.

Good buzz. Reasonable drink prices. Great beer.

Seems reasonable, were the imperials/doubles a full pint?

How long would you spend there. Is a couple of hours enough? Also is there proper food there if you wanted to grab dinner there or just crisps/nibbles

Can you pay on the door to get in or do you need tickets? Hoping to head in tomorrow afternoon.

Had a really great afternoon at this. Went with my girlfriend, who doesn't really like beer at all. We managed to find 4 or 5 different ciders, most of which really impressed her, and I enjoyed sampling a few of them too. Some of the food on offer was gorgeous as well.

Beer wise, I had 1 token's worth of each of the following (although some were quite generous while pouring!)

O'Hara's Dunkleweizen; Beoir #2; 8 Degrees Gasman; Metalman Chameleon Smokescreen; Black's Model T and Hi Viz; Hopfanatic No Hop Limit (from Hungary!); Lagunitas Cappuccino Stout; Beavertown Black Betty.

Everyone of those is top notch.

German crowd bierkompasse.de had some amazing, crazy sour, fruity, smokey beers. I'd love to see them in Ireland.
Anyone there who likes sour beers should definitely check them out if there.
    Lovely folk, too.

I hope distributors are all over them like a rash.

There all weekend and never even made it to the German/Austrian section. There was simply too much choice.
The Hungarian section was pretty good. I figure I'm more likely to see German beer than Hungarian beer in Ireland in the near future.

They even ripped off brewdog in ripping off Andy Warhol for the label.
    Good beer, though.
