I'm looking to buy a new safe. The one I have will hold the two shottie's and the .22 will squeeze in but I want one big enough to take 6 guns comfortably. Any recomendations? Quality and value for money being most important.

    Thanks.

I can't advise on make / model, but make sure you have somewhere you can secure it properly.

Do you really need enough space for 9 (3+6) guns?

Just like anything else, sales brochures tend to be a bit generous on the capabilities of the article for sale. The likes of a mounted telescopic sight for example take up quite some space and one would also like to store for example a couple of boxes of ammo and cleaning kit in the safe as well.

Not a lot of lads would have nine guns but it's not as daft as it sounds. Let's say, a shotgun for game shooting, one for trap shooting, a semi-auto 3 1/2 inch 12g for foreshore duck and geese shooting, an old .22lr rifle for rabbit shooting, a .22-250 rifle for foxes, a .308 rifle for deer shooting, .300 win mag long range target rifle, a little .22 air rifle for shooting rats around the pheasant pen and the odd bit of farm pest control, finally a starter pistol for dog training. Granted it would cost you a small fortune in purchase costs, licence fees, monitored alarms and the like but altogether not unreasonable.

I have a 9 gun safe and it barely fits 6, rifles with scopes take up a lot of room!!

I bought a 6 gun buffalo river and it just comfortably holds 2 scoped rifles and shotgun.
Could probably fit a fourth no bother but any more and they would be banging/scraping off each other when removing one, so if you have six guns get one that at least claims to hold 8/9
Any more than that build a strong room !!!!!!!!

I thought ammunition was meant to be stored separately.

Or his 3 gun safe isn't big enough so he's selling it and replacing it with a 6 gun safe.

Lads, just be aware this is the hunting forum. No selling is permitted here. It has to be done on the for sale section.

    Thanks.

No such requirement. It's different story when transporting a firearm and ammo though. They're supposed to be in separate compartments of the vehicle you're driving. A bit silly when you're talking tractors, motorbikes, pick up trucks or flat bed vans though. Not everyone who goes to a range or goes hunting drives a car.

Buffalo River 7 Gun Silver is what I have.

4 scoped rifles & 1 shotgun will just fit nicely. :)

I should have got a bigger one when I was buying this one

Can I ask where you got it and how much it cost. Is that the one with the carpeted lining and the electronic keypad.

Stakelums, racecourse road, in Thurles, Sean always has safes in stock BUT phone first to see what he has. About €325 I think. It has the top lockable inside box and space for an extra long barrelled rifle like FTR etc.

Yes carpet lined but with a Key to open/lock

On the button! I'm going to get rid of the one I have. I saw one recently and it was huge, digital lock etc but it looked cheap and unreliable.

I'm currently in the process of drawing up plans for a cottage renovation and I'm thinking strongly about adding in a small safe room. Anyone have one?
