No, and I think he only played the UK for the first time in 2010.

What would his live show be like?
so much kind of rides on his funny videos... would he have them in the background / does he do multiple costume changes?

Either way, I'd say this could be hilarious! I was watching lots of his videos last night... brilliant stuff!

He wears the relevant costumes for each song, so it's a full-on "performance". His band are killer as well.

    Brilliant! :D

This could be the gig of the year for me so!

Presale started this morning on his website: http://weirdal.com/tour/
    Picked up tickets already :)

I hope he gets off the plane in Dublin and Frank Drebin gets off before him to give a speech... that'd be great.

Is this the cartoon character of Southpark fame?

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

Thanks Dermo! I just booked myself some seated tickets. The wife doesn't have much tolerance for standing at gigs so that was handy.

Thanks Dermo, just got two tickets

No idea if this will sell out quickly but nice to have the tickets sorted well in advance

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

It looks like on Ticketmaster you will only be able to buy standing tickets. Got 2 tickets in the pre-sale, fair play Dermo on posting that.

Also impossible since Mr Leslie Nielsen was taken from us last year

Is there a way to avoid (minimize) the Ticketmaster service charge? I don't think there is a box office at Vicar Street, right?

I looked on Ticketmaster and it seems that all the seated tickets are sold out, but standing is available. Does that sound right? All the tickets seem to be the same price.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,058 ✭✭✭JJ

If I'm not mistaken, the Vicar St box office would only be open on event nights and probably only to facilitate tickets sales and/or collections for the night. I bought tickets through his official site through the pre-sale and I seem to remember all the tickets were at the same price for that.

Buy them from an outlet, preferably Stephens Green. There used to no charge per ticket from here if you paid by debit or cash although I'm not sure if that's still the case.

I am not sure it still is like that. Heard that you have to pay everywhere now, but it's worth a shot

Sound cellar? Does he still only charge a euro?

They charged me when I paid by debit the last couple of times alright but wasn't sure about cash. Still at €2, it's a lot cheaper then some of the fees they charge for the pricier gigs when buying online.

Got my ticket for this safely stashed away! I have the Running With Scissors tour DVD and I can tell you his show is awesome.
Really looking forward to this one! :D

Anybody know what time he will be going on at?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 710 ✭✭✭MrMorooka

Yeah, on that point, I've never been to a gig in Vicar St. The ticket says doors 7:30, show at 8:30, so if i show up at 8:20 it should be grand?

I think you should be fine, can't make it until 8:30 myself, the ticketmaster website lists it as starting then but I'd imagine it'll be a little bit later based on previous gigs

Worth waiting for. Just a killer show from the outset. Where does he get the energy? His band have been with him forever, and there's apparently nothing they can't do. Great film vignettes. Terrific set list.

Brilliant show. I was expecting it to be good, but not that good. Brought 5 people with me who would never bought tickets without me pushing it and we all came out delighted.

Mimicking the Happy video, Al began the show by singing Tacky outside the venue, with a camera tracking him and the footage projected on screen. He walked into the venue, worked his way through the loading area and out onto the stage, where he concluded the song. Then they did Lame Claim to Fame and Now That's What I Call Polka, by which point you'd probably arrived.

    Here's the full set list...

    Tacky
    Lame Claim to Fame
Now That's What I Call Polka!
    Perform This Way
    Dare to Be Stupid
    Fat
    First World Problems
    Foil
    Smells Like Nirvana
Party in the CIA/It's All About the Pentiums/Handy/Bedrock Anthem/Another One Rides the Bus/Ode to a Superhero/Gump/Inactive/eBay
    Canadian Idiot
Eat It/I Lost on Jeopardy/I Love Rocky Road/Like a Surgeon
    White and Nerdy
    Word Crimes
    Amish Paradise
    We All Have Cell Phones
    The Saga Begins
    Yoda

I was ten minutes late, what did I miss? :(

He started Tacky on the streets outside the venue, as shown on the screen including interactions with randomers, and made his way into the venue and onstage about halfway through the song.

Given the nature of the streets surrounding Vicar St. I was somewhat worried for his safety!

Deadly, sorry I missed it! We arrived halfway through lame claim to fame so at least thats all I missed. Great show overall :D

    Ham on!

Just wanted to add to the praise for this, a great fun gig with one of the best gig entrances I've seen, plus one of the best encores. I brought a friend who didn't really know his stuff at all and they ended up having a ball. Great fun.

On the subject of the entrance, I think most people who appeared in the background as Al walked toward Vicar St. were his people e.g. the two "hookers" were the cheerleaders for Smells Like Nirvana, but there was a guy wearing his hood up who appeared briefly right at the very start and gave Al a real WTF look that appeared to be genuine! Thought that moment was just brilliant.

Amazing gig, his energy is incredible really. That bizarre weird 'sound' melody halfway through Yoda was one of the most impressive concert feats I've ever seen :P

Where else in your lifetime would you ever hear Smells Like Teen Spirit music in the same show as American Pie. What a day it was to be alive :pac:
