Is this all that comes up for line and circle?
    Debs HL P2 Maths
    Those are not exact questions!

As far as i can remember, yeah. You need to know
how to get from 3 points or 4 to the equations of a circle though, it basically tells you two lines, with like X,3 and y,4, JUST Use distance.. and then let them equal.. I think its called the lotus of a circle??

  • Registered Users Posts: 944 ✭✭✭Kremin

Actually you're right, it is called the locus of a circle. A locus is the path traced out by a moving point, satisfying given conditions.
    Eg from books
A(-12,0)B(0,0)P(X,y) are three points. If AP = 5BP show that the locus of p is a circle.
    Distance formula of both sides
    sqrt (X+12)^2+(Y-0)^2 = 5(sqrt (x-0)^2+(y-0)^2

Square both sides and simplify you end up with x^2+y^2-x-6=0

I know many people have already posted this but I even added one of the texts. if you have no time to study for English, this is all you need, just prepare it beforehand, hope this helps!!

    ENGLISH DEBS HL:
    TEXT 1:
Today we are launching a campaign called HeForShe. I am reaching out to You because I need your help. We want to end gender inequality, and to do that, we need everyone to get involved. This is the first ever campaign of its kind at the United Nations. Consequently, we feel it is very important to encourage as many men and boys as possible to be advocates for gender equality. And we do not just want to talk about the issue of gender equality, we want to make it a reality

I first started to query gender-based assumptions at the age of eight. I was confused when I—but not the boys—was called “bossy” at school because I wanted to direct the plays we would put on for our parents. I further questioned these assumptions when, as a teenager, I realised that my gender was overly sexualised by certain elements of the press. My awareness of gender stereotyping intensified when my girlfriends started dropping out of their sports teams as they didn’t want to appear masculine. This led me to conclude that l was a feminist and this seemed uncomplicated to me. For the record, “feminism” by definition is: “The belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities— politically, economically and socially.”

Six months ago, I was appointed as a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador and since then I have spoken wildely about feminism. I have come to realise that fighting for women’s rights has too often become synonymous with man-hating. And if there is one thing I believe for certain is that this needs to change. It is very obvious to me that "feminism” has become an unpopular word. So, as a feminist, I apparently belong to the ranks of women whose expressions are seen today as too zealous, too strong, too aggressive, too anti-men and, ultimately, unattractive. Why lately has the word “ feminism” become such an uncomfortable one?

As a woman, I think it is right that I should be paid the same as my male counterparts. I think it is right that I should be able to make decisions about my own life. I think it is right that women should be involved in the policies and decision- making of my country. And I think it is right that, socially, I should be afforded the same respect as men. But sadly, there is not one country in the world that can yet claim to have completely achieved these goals.

I consider gender equality to be a basic human right. I am one of the lucky ones. The simple fact is that not all women have been afforded the same rights as I have. In fact, statistically, very few have been. in 1995, hillary Clinton made a landmark speech at a United Nations conference in China on women’s rights. Unfortunately, many of the things she wanted to change are still a reality today. But what stood out for me the most was that less than 30 per cent of participants were male. How can we effect change when so many men feel unwelcome to join the conversation?

Men—I would like to take this opportunity to extend a formal invitation to you. Gender equality is your issue, too. I’ve seen young men suffering from mental illness, unable to ask for help. I have seen young men afraid to express their feelings for fear it would make them look less “macho”. I have seen young men made fragile and insecure by a distorted sense of what constitutes male success. Is it any wonder that in the UK, suicide is the biggest killer of men between 20-49 years of age, eclipsing road accidents, cancer and heart disease? Men don’t have the benefits of equality, either. We don’t often talk about men being imprisoned by gender stereotypes but I can see that they are and that when they are free, things will change for women as a natural consequence.

It is time that we all stop seeing gender equality as two opposing sets of ideals. Both men and women should feel free to be sensitive. Both men and women should feel free to be strong. If we stop defining each other by what we are not and start defining ourselves by what we are, we can all be free. Ultimately, HeForShe is about freedom.

I want men to take up this cause so that their daughters, sisters and mothers can be free from prejudice, but also so that their sons have the freedom to be vulnerable and sensitive too. They would then be free to reclaim those parts of themselves they abandoned and, in doing so, be a truer and more complete version of themselves.

In my nervousness for this speech and my moments of doubt, l have told myself firmly, ‘If not me, who? If not now, when?’ If you have similar doubts when opportunities are presented to you, I hope these words might be of help. And if you still hate the word “feminism”, know this: it is not the word that is important, but the idea and the aspiration behind it. We may strive for a uniting word, but the good news is that we have a uniting movement. It is called HeForShe. Men—l invite you to step forward, to speak up. Gender equality is your issue too!

    THE THREE IMAGES:
one of them is of words such as equal opportunities, discrimination, justice... all crumbled up together. another image is in black and white. it is the face of Emma Watson, and there is a quote that says, if not me then who? If not now then when? the third image is of a baby girl and her father. the pic is in colour and there is a quote that says, the 21st century is a time for real men and real women, real HE-ROES must support SHE-ROES.

    QUESTION A

    (i) In the above extract, Emma Watson explains why she thinks the word “feminism” has become an unpopular word. Outline, in your own words, why she thinks this needs to change. Support your answer with reference to the text. (15)

(ii) Consider the visual images that accompany this text. Which two of these images would you have chosen to project as a backdrop to Emma Watson as she launched the above campaign? Explain your choice, discussing the impact you think these images would have on the audience. (In your answer, you should refer both to your chosen images and to the written text.) (15)

(iii) Identify and comment on three elements of effective speech—writing evident in Emma Watson’s address to the United Nations. In your answer, you should refer only to the written text. (20)

    TEXT 2:

    QUESTION B

“...I will protect our way of life.”

Imagine you have been asked to speak at a protest rally about an issue that you consider important. Write the text of the speech you would give at the protest in which you communicate your grievances and explain what you hope the demonstration will achieve. (50)

    COMPOSING:
    1. write a speech for or against the motion: "we live in an unequal world"
    2. write a personal essay about the difficulties that young people experience when attempting to be true to themselves
    3. "my heart beat so ferociously that my hands went to either side of my ribs to keep them from unhinging"
write an essay inspired by above statement.
I don't have time to do the rest, they should already be up on another post. good luck guys!!

The outside correction companies aren't known for being the quickest. If your teachers are correcting them, they might have them after the mid-term break if they are unfortunate enough to have to use it for that.

I used to genuinely feel sorry for a HL English teacher I worked with going home with her HUGE bundles of scripts. She used to correct them properly, writing in suggestions about how to improve on each question, pointing out where they went wrong etc.. She would spend her whole break on them and still not be finished. It was probably long afterwards that her classes realised how much work she was doing to try and help them.

We had a teacher when I went to school who I'd swear just threw the papers down a set of stairs and marked them according to where they fell. Some in the class would get marks for a statement and others wouldn't - neither rhyme nor reason and God help you if you pointed it out to him or questioned him. 'You don't get to ask in the real thing!' he used to shout and of course back then there was no viewing of scripts so he was sort of right.

    Hmm just to clarify
it was a cubic sequence as the 1st term was 1 , 2nd term 8 the 3rd term 27 the fourth term 64 .this making the nth term n cubed (n3) . And then the fifth term 125 so IT WAS A CUBIC SEQUENCE

I saw the marking scheme for myself yesterday. The terms were 1, 7, 19, 37! The 5th term was 61, which was the correct answer to part (ii) of the question. The SECOND difference between them was 6. Tn was 3n^2 - 3n + 1. Now (unlikely) maybe you somehow had a different Q on the paper or else you only counted the surface of the blocks and not the ones behind them that you couldn't see? But either way I saw the official marking scheme myself and the sequence was quadratic. My teacher went through the paper Q by Q with me yesterday and we both looked at the marking scheme.

What might be happening here is most teachers have copped to the fact students are sharing details of exam papers online and are changing their mocks. Maybe they're only changing one or two questions to account for errors in the paper, including questions that are just too easy. But some teachers I know have pulled out a mock exam from last year. This is not going to work next year lads.

Speaking as a teacher who has already marked my Maths mocks, having a detailed breakdown of every question on the paper hasn't made any difference to my students grades. Knowing what's coming up isn't the same as knowing how to answer it.

I'll take that on board! But all I know is the question I had was from the company itself anyway because it was on the original pink sheet and I saw the marking scheme! But thanks for that info! & also I actually didn't use any spoilers for my exam! But I did stumble upon the thread after and spotted the mistake so I said I'd help! But I fully agree, there's no point in using the site because you can't for the actual leaving cert!

    APPLIED MATHS HL MOCKS
(Doesn't state if DEB or Examcraft, barcode is on left so its likely DEB
    1. (a)
Show the total time taken for a train with constant acceleration and deceleration (and no constant speed) is equal to

    √2d (≝1/f1 + 1/f2)
with square root covering all of it.

    f1 = acceleration
    f2 = deceleration
    d = distance

A particle, P, starts from rest at a point A and moves with constant acceleration 'f' in a straight line. At time T, after P starts from A, a second particle, Q, starts from A and moves in the same direction along the same straight line as P.

Q moves with a constant speed of u.

    (i) Prove that Q will overtake P if u > 2fT.
(ii) Assuming Q does not overtake P, i.e. that u > 2ft, express in terms of u, f and T the length of time for which Q is ahead of P.

This test is hard as **** by the way, good luck.

You're not alone. I usually get As in French and I thought it was my worst exam. I don't think it was unusually difficult though, I think I was just unprepared and I've been kinda skirting along until now. I just need to pull up my socks before June.
