Reported FOD on the RWY at DUB, rescue vehicles went out to clear it up, took longer than they thought, no take offs and 3 go-arounds

Forgive my uneducated ignorance, but what is FOD? Thanks.

It could be anything from a coke can to a plane part.

Anything that could be sucked in to the engine.

Can also mean Foreign Object Debris if found before it causes the Damage, so to speak:)

So next question re FOD, who finds it? Do crews check the runway, or do pilots see it from Flight Deck or what?

This is a great thread. I lurk a lot and only occasionally come out of my cave!!

I was at a course given by airport police in Cork a few months ago and when speaking about FOD one of them said they found a ladder on/near the runway one time..... In the words of the big man himself, jeeeeeeeaysuzzzzz

Can be a combination of all of the above plus Ground Ops often do a runway inspection to keep an eye out.

Interesting! I was there that day too. I was a bit late and one of the last ones in.

Indeed, it was believed to have come from a private aircraft with high wings and the step ladder was left on top of the wing!!!

    11pm TAF's issued.

    Dublin
    Becoming 8am-10am: 180 degrees (S) at 20kts gusting 32kts
    Becoming 11am-1pm: 180 degrees (S) at 26kts gusting 42kts
    Tempo 12pm-4pm 5000m and Rain
    Becoming 1pm-3pm: 220 degrees (SW) at 27kts Gusting 45kts
    Becoming 6pm-8pm: 230 degrees (SW) at 22kts Gusting 35kts

220 degrees is the wind direction around where RWY28 and RWY 16 are equal in crosswind/headwind.

    Cork
    Becoming 4am-6am: 190 degrees (S) at 20kts gusting 33kts
    Becoming 7am-9am: 180 degrees (S) at 30kts gusting 45kts with 4000m light rain/drizzle
    Tempo 9am-3pm: 2000m with Rain
    Becoming 10am-12pm: 210degrees (SSW) at 27kts gusting 44kts
    Becoming 2pm-4pm: 240 degrees (WSW) at 23kts gusting 37kts

Although the strongest winds are from a southerly direction, which suits corks operations, the gusts are quite high and may cause stobarts a few problems. Other than that I don't expect much disruption.

    Shannon
    Becoming 4am-6am 160 degrees (SSE) at 18kts gusting 30kts
    Becoming 8am-10am 180 degrees (S) at 25kts gusting 40kts
    Becoming 10am-12pm 210 degrees (SSW) at 26kts gusting 42kts
    Tempo 11am-3pm 4000m with rain
    Becoming 5pm-7pm 230 degrees (SW) at 19kts gusting 30kts

The early morning south-easterly will result in a nice crosswind for the transatlantics due in a few hours, although nothing they can't handle. Shannons southwesterly runway will likely cope well with the forecasted winds.

    Knock
    Forecast 12am-12am (From midnight to midnight) 180degrees (S) at 20kts gusting 30kts
    Becoming 6am-8am 180 degrees (S) at 26kts gusting 42kts 5000m light rain
    Tempo 10am-2pm 190 degrees (S) at 30kts gusting 49kts 3000m rain
    Becoming 2pm-5pm 230 degrees (SW) at 20kts gusting 35kts
Tempo 5pm-midnight 4000m showersr rain/small hail or snow pellets
    Becoming 6pm-8pm 220 degrees (SW) at 17kts

The strong southerly will affect knocks operations quite a bit as it would be near a complete crosswind. The snow pellets in the evening would be interesting, but can't see any major effects on operations, although nice for the locals in the area.

The airports to watch tomorrow are Dublin and Knock, some challenging winds for pilots imo.

Any professionals who would like to correct or add something to the above feel free.

Cork for the late duties combined with Rwy25 closed for maintenance will no doubt lead to a few Diversions.

RWY25 wouldn't be needed until the evening anyway and by that stage the winds aren't as severe.

    What are late duties?

I must have been right before/after you so because I was one of the last in too! I remember going into Farranfore a few years back and a golden Labrador running up the runway as we were on the short finals. Suppose he could be called Foreign object-dog :D

    Early duties = 5 - 6am start with a 2 - 3pm finish

    Late duties = 1 - 2pm start with a 10 - 11pm finish

After 2pm the wind is out of limits in Cork. 37kts is roughly 74kmph. That's windy:D

Ah makes sense now. Its flight paths looked like approaches for runway 16.
