I think this type of tournament is an ideal opportunity to try a seeded draw, after every round the draw is re-done where the highest see plays the lowest, second highest v. second lowest, etc. etc.

Would also like to see them do tennis style draws where No1 plays a random person from 9-16 in the first round, then anyone from 5 to 8 in the second round etc ; instead of always playing the #16, then #8, then #4.
The current identikit template in every tournament means it can be very difficult to move up from #15 or #16, and also leads to repeat matchups from tournament to tournament.

I agree Armani, I think this is a much better and fairer way of doing things.

have this tournament been moved? Always thought it was on towards end of year(october/November time)

Can't remember any tournaments being on in recent years between WC and start of PL

    Yes, it has been moved.

I'm fairly sure the World Cup was played on that weekend two years ago, as well as the year before that.

Before the series of exhibitions called the PL...

This tournament is also a glorified exhibition as it's non-ranked.

Bump, starts today, live on ITV4 and also bit and bobs on SetantaIRL (Saturday afternoon and Sunday evening live, other 2 sessions on a delay).

Have a good feeling about Brendan Dolan getting a result in the first match. He's very consistent and doesn't bother him if the crowd is going bananas or if its like a library whereas I feel Wright needs the crowd noise to keep his confidence up throughout the game. As this is first match up this afternoon, I don't think there will be a huge rowdy crowd so it may suit Dolan.

I'm not betting at all on the masters, as I said before I see it as an exhibition and don't think the players put the same effort into this as most other tournaments. Hopefully its a good tournament, it certainly soemthing to watch between the football and UFC today :)

 just turned on ....Dolan 7-0 down....and I feel my decision to avoid betting on this weekends darts is a correct one going by my 1 & only prediction lol

Dolan looks absolutely wrecked ,can't see him doing anything in this game.

Anybody watching this on setanta on UPC my picture is all over the place

Taylor out to Jenks 10-7. Taylor's head mustn't have been in it after recent death of his mother.
Tempted to bet on Taylor getting beat in 1st night of PL

    Pretty dismal stuff today overall.

Nobody bar Chizzy must have been hitting the practice board.

Cameraman has been awful for this tournament.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,626 ✭✭✭crasy dash

Every time they look at the players walking up those two lights it looks like an airport runway

Nice game now between chizzy and mvg.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,229 ✭✭✭marklazarcovic

Michael van Gerwen 110.28, Dave Chisnall 108.09, with a tournament record 13 180s for Chisnall in the last match, wowzers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,286 ✭✭✭✭mdwexford

Standard has certainly been upped today.

    Savage stuff so far.

can't help but feel if lewis lost a couple or three stone he would have a far greater chance of winning titles... always seems to be struggling in later stages..physicly

He's won 2 world championships  I think its his attitude that lets him down. When he worked with Deller before(& since he got back) all the talk about him is "he's in the right frame of mind"

    Barney 11-6

Not watched a lot of the tournament(none this afternoon mind) but from what I've seen its all been pretty poor

you missed a cracking match earlier this afternoon where Chizzy lost with an average of 108 against mvg who over averaged circa 110.

Barney has a great chance against mvg now. a repeat of last year's premier league final.

    MVG wins

Chizzy v. MVG was a cracker, far better than the final I thought. Not a great tournament from what I saw but it's definitely welcome to have some PDC darts not on Sky.

I mean since then... he's ballooned ..and it affects his game stamina...I know a lot of the players are big but too big is a hindrence

I dont know if he's any or much bigger than when he won the worlds. No doubt he's far too big and heavy for his age but he's been playing his whole life he should have the experience to know how to set a pace.

For me its more he cant keep up his own highest standards and becomes jokey at times on stages and his concentration disappears. IF(2 letters but huge meaning lol) I ever played him I'd be dancing all over the oche and messing around to try and get him into a humerous mindset...then turn on the powerscoring and wipe the floor with him :p

PL might be a bit Mickey Mouse, but barring three days for the UK finals in march its all there is between now and the matchplay in july!
