My English is not perfect so excuse if I didn't understand.

Did you mean which is the better? Because neither is the best.

    The best between the two.

    Seed spawned(known)

    Al Pacino
    three spawn by two females

    De Niro
    6 spawn by 3 females

De Niro has produced TWICE as much spawn as Al Pacino
    clearly a winner

I'm going with De Niro, I don't like the comedy roles of the last 15 years but his early work alongside later stuff such as Goodfellas, Casino and Heat leaves him at legendary status. I still think there is a massive serious role left in the guy... can't wait for him to get back with Scorsese at some stage (if it ever happens).

Pacino has had some shiite over recent years but De Niro was king of the easy pay cheque for terrible, terrible films en masse.

I wasn't saying that DeNiro hasn't done any crap, I'm asking what has Pacino done lately that wasn't? 'cos I've not seen anything of his recently

    What film was that in?

    'Showgirls'

It's De Niro for me as well, and I echo a previous poster's comments about Pacino being somewhat one-dimensional.

The quotes in the poll are a good example. I know exactly where the De Niro quote comes from, but it feels like I've heard "Hoo! Haa!" in half a dozen Pacino flicks. In fact, I probably have done.

But what on earth is De Niro up to? He's churning out absolute turkeys. It's relentless. Saying that, he obviously loves working, and more power to him. It's just disappointing when you're on the other side of the screen. And he can't even make a comeback, because he'd need to disappear first.

Incidentally, The King of Comedy is turning into my favourite De Niro movie and my favourite Scorsese movie. I used to say that occasionally because it seemed to have become a trendy thing to say. Everyone loves to be part of a misunderstood masterpiece. But I've seen it a few times now and it really is a special piece of work. The ending is one of the greatest moments of satire in all of cinema.

Id love to see either do a HBO Drama.

Or both doing True Detective

Pacino edges it for me for Scent of a Woman and Devils Advocate, De Niro loses big for the awful meet the franchise, I would give him credit for roles such as Men of Honor and his Captain Shakespear in Stardust, loved him in Casino and Goodfellas too, are screw you OP it's too hard to chose ;)

Re HBO I just remembered Pacino did this and this for them.

King of Comedy is the main reason I would go for De Niro - Pacino just wouldn't have the versatility for a role like that - plus he has an awful tendency to overact e.g. Scent of A Woman, Glengarry Glen Ross.

You're in luck, because Pacino's already been in three of them (although one is a two parter, and the others are TV movies). Angels in America, You Don't Know Jack and Phil Spector. The latter received poor to mixed reviews, but the others are worth your time.

That would be massive! Pacino would be perfectly suited...I don't think De Niro has ever played a detective/cop role?

This forthcoming film from Pacino will be either amazing or terrible, I cant see and middle shades coming out of this one. Im not familiar with the director but the subject matter should be something for Pacino to finally get stuck into.

You're comparing their entire filmographies, and of course that's as valid an approach as any other. But I'd prefer to compare them at their best, otherwise it's just a race to the bottom.

Pacino could never do a 'Raging Bull' or "Taxi Driver".

De Niro for me. De Niro has more iconic roles and from their highest rated films I prefer watching De Niro. Pacino has the better later career, but its still not great.
Quote in the poll is from what I consider one of the most over rated acting performances ever. I used to love it, but when I watch it now I can't stand watching that film and Pacino shouting his way through it.

De Niro hands down. He's performed across different genres aswell.

Pacino has The Godfather, Godfather II, Serpico, Dog Day Afternoon, Scarface, Godfather III, Scent of a Woman, Carlitos Way, Heat, Donnie Brasco, The Insider, Any Given Sunday and The Recruit.

De Niro has The Godfather II, Taxi Driver, Deer Hunter, Raging Bull, Once Upon a Time in America, King of Comedy, Untouchables, Goodfellas, Cape Fear, Casino, Heat, Sleepers, Cop Land, Jackie Brown, Ronin, Men of Honour. I personally like De Niro in Analyze This and Meet the Parents, I know some people don't thimk he should be doing comedy but he has one of those faces that can pull it off. He was also excellent in Silver Linings Playbook.

Jepers, De Niro wins easily looking at this.

And you left out my favourite: Midnight Run.

I was always into films when I was a kid, but Cop Land was one of a few films that made me want to devote a lot of time to the medium. It's not a particularly good movie, but I was only 13 when I seen it. My father and brothers weren't into it at all. It hadn't got enough action for them. But I was sucked into the drama. In my head I used to call them 'nothing films', because nothing seemed to happen in them when compared to the Steven Segal films my family watched. The War at Home was another one. I found it on the bottom shelf of my local video store. 12 years old watching Martin Sheen trying to deal with his dysfunctional Vietnam vet son. Ah yeah… falling in love with cinema is great. It's a shame you can only do it once.
