hunting on 'common land'...

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows what the story is in regards to hunting on 'common land' in Ireland.
Apparently the ground has 15 odd shares and 4 of the farmers, who have 8-10 shares between them, said it was ok to work away.
The problem my friend has is the local gun club and members of the general public say he has no right to be there as it's 'common land' (there's is no such thing as 'common land ' in Ireland, according to Google), even though he has permission.
Does he need a majority vote from all the share holders? Does anyone know?!

There is no such thing as common land. All land is owned by someone. If not a person then it's state owned.

IOW no matter what the land is called someone needs to give permission for you to be on it. Best bet would be to seek permission from all stakeholders. Cover your arse.

Who do the gun club have permission from?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows what the story is in regards to hunting on 'common land' in Ireland.

I think you mean "commanage." That is, a shared ownership, not public land.

There can be many different agreements: grazing rights and water rights for example. You'll have to source that out.

Forget what the gun club has to say. They routinely tell outsiders nonsense to ensure more game for them. Many clubs are terrible to new members are well. Quick to take dues, slow to provide land maps.

I would say that one farmer's permission would suffice, but would not bet my licence on it. I do not believe that any owner of the commanage land may exclude another owner or use any part of the land exclusively.

As such, the shooting rights of one owner should allow you to shoot the commanage.

However, before I went to such a place with gun-in-hand, I would surely talk to a someone in real estate or solicitor.
