I miss the old AH posts that had no purpose. They were great. Like 'I had a spring and then I lost it somehow' and hilarity would ensue.

It was the Family Guy of boards. Doesn't happen so much anymore. :(

Hmmm... I just had an idea...

Mixture of over zealous moderation and busy body posters who are as dry as Gandhi's flip flop

AH threads became fairly politicised and silliniess took a sharp decline, rather than someone cracking a joke in a new thread about something silly you get someone immediately saying along the lines of "Oh great, this again!" to piss on it.

There probably should be a term like Godwin where someone mentions the bankers, water charges, the elite, corrupt officials, another anti-US rant, etc, and tries to derail the fúck out of a thread.

There was a thread about dogs a while back and someone, somehow managed to find a way to shoehorn the first thing that popped into their head to vent about water charges.

Boards seems have gone dead, there is nothing exciting happening, is it just the holiday season, or is politics in such state that no one is interested anymore.

What used to happen before that found it so alive and exciting?

Occasionally when I click into a link it automatically directs me to a porn page and it's very difficult to log out (and no not because I like it but because when I click X it just brings me to another revolting page!)

This happens to me too. I just started looking at boards I wonder why this happens and it's just on this website.

Everything that you first discover is "alive and exciting" but after doing it for several years, it eventually becomes "boring".

While at the same time some new posters arrive and find it "alive and exciting", it's all in the mind!

overzelous mods with political views, plus political party shills, esp from the current gov, on the run up to the last election if a poster was anyway anti fg or pro sf they were hounded, professional posters were given the run of the place, meanwhile the ordinary poster was teased and provoked so as they got banned, in spite of my no of posts i rarely post here any more.

An inbox limit in 2015. No way for bad posts to naturally disappear and good stuff rise. Feedback forum generally results in nothing happening unless you're very well known. Forum requests the same. No images in AH and extremely conservative opinions being the most thanked and thus most popular. Overzealous modding. Classic posters disappearing. Etc.

Like most, I just visit now because AH is one of my links on the bookmarks bar. It's easily the least satisfying site on it now unfortunately after having had like five accounts and probably near 20k posts.

We are in the wrong thread completely for this complaint and all the aul lads wanna chat about the good old days! We'll move somewhere more appropriate if the old-timers could direct us please?

Looking back with my rosetinted specs AH used to be the place you came for something to have a chuckle at, now it's just full of outrage and people getting offended and then others in turn getting offended by those people, it's all a bit grim nowadays

I think you may have a point: social media has been targeted by various groups to "promote" their "message". It's part of the evolution of it and almost impossible to police. The problem isn't when they stay in their own corner it's when they spill over and try to be "subtle". Politics cafe will mop up a lot of it.

Report it here. Others including myself are having the same problem.

I don't post much. Either you get yellow/red carded due to made-up-on-the-spot rules, posts get edited or the thread gets closed. Not worth making the effort to contribute, so I just read mostly. Would be nicer if there wasn't a 100 different sets of rules for a 100 different sub-forums, and if moderation was consistent and less heavy handed.

The widely varying mod actions, I remember a mod being appointed not that long ago and totally losing the run of himself closing threads left, right and centre. Seems to have settled now though.

Also some rules such as " Don't be a d1ck" are too ambiguous and create situations where an action can be taken on a poster on pretty much the whim of a mod.

Humour has left the building. Some of it used to be quite clever with "in jokes"and running gags.
Over cautious modding has resulted in individualism being replaced by bland generic and frankly boring responses. No room for characters anymore, which is what made the site exciting and interesting.

    Boards was better in 2012

And by boards I mean AH
    And by 2012 I mean 2004

I remember when it was all fields. The picture in the background when you login, that was boards when I joined. You had to walk across it with bare feet and like it!

Ah the good ole days. Yes. Remember them with great fondness and affection.

No real edge to it anymore, there's a line there now that has to be towed. It used to be really open and mad, a bit like reddit is now, back in the mid to late noughties when I was in school. Great characters and awesome fights.:D

In fairness you're posting in ****ing After Hours, the Jerry Springer of ****ing Boards forums.

Can't say what I really think, which probably says it all .

Everything that you first discover is "alive and exciting" but after doing it for several years, it eventually becomes "boring".

While at the same time some new posters arrive and find it "alive and exciting", it's all in the mind!

A newer, younger, sexier model comes along and Boards seems drab and boring. The new one makes you feel excited because it's fresh and different. You try it for a bit, you feel young and alive. Then you get tired of its energy. You miss Boards and its comfortable predictability. So you come back and promise yourself you will be happy with Boards.

I don't know, when I signed up a few years ago, there used to be a warning post at the start of every forum stating that no one was to discuss a certain company and their activities.

    Anyone who did was banned!

It required an unrelated court judgement relating to accountability to lift the warning. So Boards is probably freer now.

Which company was this.. or are you at liberty to say?

Boards was way better pre 2010.

Should that not be pre Sept 2008 ;)

That's true for every other poster too...and rightly so. Without naming the other place you can see Irish websites where anything goes. Just a name calling contest. Boards used to have an insult forum with special rules and it was hilarious because no one took it seriously. When people take things seriously then they look to law. Boards has to be careful. I say that as someone who has been in the wars over the years. There are bigger changes than modding behind the sense of less energy around here.

Terribly contrived poster and forever seeking attention.

To still be using this saying is fairly dry in itself.:)
