The baby gets plenty of second/third/fourth opinions from what I can tell, as they have been hospitalised several times and also see consultant peadiatric specialists. Changing GP would do sweet fanny all.

There's also a lot to be said for knowing that a particular doctor is aware of your history, your family's history and knows what treatments work for your particular case. I wouldn't switch to a different GP just because my child happened to be sick a lot.
That's not to say I don't question my doctors (especially when I was in the maternity system) but I tend to go with their advice-they've spent years training and upskilling in the field, unlike me.

No it isn't. A second opinion or different outlook is a good idea. Knowing your history is over rated and being aware of new research, studies, etc underrated. But each to their own.

You just haven't a clue. You are talking about my daughter and implying I'm not doing enough for her. Seriously how dare you? You know where you quoted I have been in hospital six times with her: do you think I just brought my GP with me and she has seen no one else? Can you put yourself in my shoes for two minutes and imagine how difficult it is for us to have a baby constantly sick? And then to have to have somebody like you coming along and judging me? My GP is wonderful. It is not his fault that my little girl is sick.

I wouldn't mind them, you know what's best for your child and it sounds like you're doing a great job given what must be a stressful situation.

The wait in our gp's office, even when you have an appointment can be up to an hour, I've looked at changing but friends say it can be the same at theirs so going to stay but I reckon that would only get worse with free gp care.

Our kids rarely visit the doctor, maybe once/twice a year each but I think it would be more tempting to bring them if we were paying nothing rather than it being free. Sometimes it's been borderline and we just said we'd wait another day or two before shelling out the 50 eur where if it was free we probably would have gone.

Money is tight here but I still think a charge of even just 5/10 eur (with follow ups free) might deter people a little bit from going at the first sniffle but still gives reasonably priced care whilst not needing any extra staff to work out means testing etc.

Seriously just ignore ignore ignore. This is what gets my goat on boards. Self proclaimed know it alls who in actual fact know nothing. Very easy to judge when your sitting behind a screen without having been through the horrific experience of a constantly sick infant.

Try getting same day GP appointment when this comes in. It's imposs in the UK

Depends on the GP. We (living in NI) have no problem getting seen on the same day, if needed. The GP even has a specific process for it. You call between 8 and 8.30 to explain symptoms etc., then doc calls you back within 30 minutes to discuss and establish if you (or the child) need to be seen that day. If they feel you do (which they mostly are) then you get an appointment that day.

In light of that poor child who has cancer at 9 years of age and is ineligible for a medical card, perhaps the time has finally come when people who actually need cards will get them.

    Hi

Up burning the oil here and I see free GP care for under 6's is back on menu from July 1st.

Soooooo, provided your GP is a member of this scheme and you register the child, does it mean one can go to that GP any time the child is sick and not pay ? Or is it only a certain amount of GP visits a year that you get free ? Or do you have to pay sometimes or wha ?

Tried finding answe online but no real guide.
