In fairness, your response is completely irrelevant to the question.

Diet drinks are calorie free, but there's much worse stuff in them than calories

You would be better off doing your own research than listening to peoples opinions here.

Disclaimer: Im not a dietician, or a nutritionist.

This is just me. Water has less calories than a diet coke and to be honest tastes better. If you want a coke as a treat, have a coke. Have one coke. In a can because IMO it tastes better in a can.

Are they safe? They are FDA approved. Studies have been done saying they are fine. There have been various facebook-type campaigns with stories of women dying from cancer who stopped drinking diet coke and the cancer went away. Fact or maybe there was an agenda at play.

A calorie, as I understand it, is the amount of energy it takes to increase a kilogram of water by one degree. Ask yourself, how many kilograms am I? What good to my system is this $1.59 cola? I could have water for cheaper which will hydrate me.

If you need energy, a diet coke wont give you energy, because it gives 1 calorie. It is low energy. If you dont need energy. Just have water.

The artificial sweeteners and sugar substitutes used in these diet drinks and such are not used by the body for energy and so have 0 calories.

They do have other nasty side effects though, laxative effects , they can make you feel hungry (which is not something you want when dieting), and some studies which suggest a link between certain sweeteners and cancer.

These substitutes taste very sweet but are not broken down by the body , one hopes they pass through harmlessly but I'd be wary of them and avoid as much as possible.

Some diet drinks still have small amounts of calories.

e.g. diet club orange is 6kcal per 100ml. This is since it has still got 11% orange juice in it, and is 1.2% sugar. Which is about 1 tenth of what others have.

The new club orange zero is 5% juice.

I think drinks like coke zero are great when dieting.
