His TV might be both NTSC and PAL compatible whereas yours is might be PAL only.

Only way you'll know for sure is by testing it on another display really!

If it still doesn't work then it's the cable, it if works then the problem is your TV.

Do they not do RGB out at all no?

That's true, could be that. I tested it on another tv, different make and had the same result. The tv out connection is a rca to mini jack, think its a 2.5mm one. I haven't looked into whether you can get the mini jacks in rgb, possibly so?

Had a look for ya and unfortunately they don't do RGB out I'm afraid! So you're stuck trying to sort out that mini RCA cable. :(

Ah thanks for looking up that! Ya it seems either the cable is faulty or some cables are different from each other. It shows the game running on the screen with sound it's just completely choppy and can't make too much out.

So rather than going the Framemeister route (which is the Rolls Royce solution for retro gaming on a modern tv...but crazy money, input lag concerns, cabling concerns, etc), I've gone full Sith and built a new PC with one eye on being an HTPC, but the other eye on being an emulation setup.

Am in the process of transferring roms from my trusty Pi3, to a dedicated HDD for emulation on the new pc. I've also set up Launchbox, which imo, blows Hyperspin away not just in usability, but importantly, in ease of setup. The simplicity of which you can add systems & roms is fantastic, & I'll likely pony up the money for the premium big box version once I've everything set up.

One thing I wasn't prepared for I must admit, was the unbelievable difference upping the resolution makes on something like the N64. I changed it from the stock resolution of 320x240, to 1280x960....holy cow the difference  I'm still and always will be a proponent of collecting, and playing physical games...but my eyes have definitely been opened to playing this way too. When I see OoT running at higher resolutions, I can't help but think "this, this is the way it would have been if the N64 had been more powerful."

    What concerns?

Have read in several places it can introduce around 20ms of input lag, outside of whatever your TV might add. Not bad by any account, but the less the better. Seems to be an improvement for some, and a problem for others. Re cabling, rgb, powered rgb, and sync issues seem to the common ones to crop up when researching.

I'm not knocking the Mini by any accounts, as I said, it's the Rolls Royce solution for original hardware in the modern age. The cost though, drop 500 on this, or put the cost toward replacing my ailing Core2Duo pc...I went with the latter obviously. For my original hardware, I'll keep my 21" crt for that authentic feel.

I was in one of those Tiger shops the other day and seen they had some small chopping boards of a particular shape. It gave me an idea so I tried it out today.

Not perfect, but not too bad either. Took about 4 or 5 mins each.

Bought a cheese board in SuperValu this evening just so I could laser the wooden board it came on :)
I think I'll need to find a local source of wood to engrave as I have got a bit bored of doing acrylic all the time. Plus wood smells a million times better than stinky melted plastic.

    They look amazing :).
Does it smell like perspex being cut/molded? That stuff is rank, I could barely do metalwork over it, can nearly taste the smell of it just thinking about it. :pac: #wuss

Steve I'll tell you, I'd pay money for them and I'm a skint/stingy hoor. Great looking pieces.

Fantastic. Who'd have thunk chopping boards could be things of beauty.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

Yeah, thats the smell. I did engineering/metalwork in secondary school as well and when i started lasering the stuff at home it reminded me of it right away. There are two types of acrylic(cast and extruded), I try to stick to cast as it smells better/less and looks better most of the time.

Once i get some lasering wood in I can cut and engrave some nice coasters for sure.

Not retro but there is a nice Humble Bundle for the PS3/4 with about a day left.
The Darksiders remake and the sequel, plus a bunch of other stuff for €15.

On the other hand, they own it so they are possibly the only people who can legitimately download the files in question.
It's just unfortunate that they used a ropey site to do it, instead of their own database.

As long as, when I pay my money again, I don't end up with some crappy hack instead, the likes of which you find on a 888 in 1 cart from ChinaKnockoffShop or similar!

Quick question, does any one know of a good courier, I need 120kg of stuff collected in Kerry and delivered to Carlow, getting mad quotes of 280-350e.
Would be around 15 boxes in total. I'm not cheap lol I just think 280e is a little steep.

The amount if Nintendo hate going around forums at the moment is kind of insane. Lots of vitriol spilled about them from people that have no interest in playing any of their games. It's not really helped by journalists giving their opinions on Nintendo's business practices when they don't know their arse from their elbow when it comes to business. For instance Nintendo are evil and want to spoil everyone's fin so discontinued the nes classic when it looks more likely one if the main board components comes from a factory that suffered massive damage in an earthquake.

...can be embarrassing, immature, and downright entitled sometimes. The Nintendo Classic Mini though, was never in plentiful supply to begin with. Disappointment is understandable for those who couldn't get one at retail, but the whole "Nintendo wants to ruin everyones fun" tripe? Eugh, moving on...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,798 ✭✭✭Jack burton

In my experience a lot of people who bitch and moan about business practices have no idea where they are coming from and couldn't organize a piss up in a brewery.

But IMHO I'm really into limited supply of things. Make a certain amount and then that's it. Thats just me and my dickhead consumer mentality. In this case though it looks like a supply issue and out of thier hands. But its not like people are pushed for ways to play nes games in 2017. Cop on fanboys

At the end of the day they have no responsibility to anyone except their own shareholders and whatever their own board decide.
I speculated at the release of the Mini that it was a clever marketing tool, raising the profile and goodwill towards the Nintendo brand amongst the very demographic that they want to sell the Switch to, rather than marketing to those who already love the brand, which is mostly younger people with their DS/3DS product lines.
And, aside from those internet commentators, there's a vast swathe of people who bought into the mini NES and Famicom devices, people who owned a Nintendo in their youth and who got one of the machines as a gift from a spouse, and who now may see the Nintendo brand as a living, current thing rather than simply an expression of nostalgia, which is ironic given that the Mini's were tributes to the early franchises and notable game releases.
We shall see, this Christmas, if the Switch can gain traction outside of that of a 3DS replacement, which would still make it a massive hit.

Just think of the potential, a Pokemon/Monster Hunter title on the Switch would have to potential to dominate the games charts for the holidays, and drive a mass of system sales to boot.
