Yeah. My 1070 system looks like the type of thing some apes would touch and subsequently learn to use tools.

How the hell is the cooling managed?

Seems like things would get toasty in there. Also surpised a 1070 would fit in given the length of graphics cards.

The 1070 is quite compact. Smaller than my old 970. Nvidia really nailed this gen of gpu cards.

New Zelda is fantastic and a massive step in the right direction for the series. It just plonks you into the over world, barely a tutorial, no handholding and no annoying navi/Fi. It's everything that skyward sword should have been.

What do you make of the hardware itself?

It's smaller than you expect, quite dinky but well made. Controllers are tiny but I find them very comfortable, really do not get the complaints made against them. As usual for Nintendo the analogue sticks are the best on the market. The screen is gorgeous as well, a really nice IPS screen although it's not Vita OLED quality.

The OS is gorgeous, so simple and uncluttered and far nicer to use than the frankly awful PS3 and 4 UI.

It feels more like a new handheld than console though.

Just saw that not only does the Switch VC have Neo Geo games, but they've got Waku Waku 7 at launch. Didn't see that coming.

It's not really the VC. It's more like the standalone Neo geo games on PSN.

Had The Last Blade/2 or Neo Drift Out been there I'd have invested, but to no avail.

This point is so trivial I'm surprised I didn't make it. It's Waku's PAL debut as well, which adds to the bizarreness.

Yeah, Humble Bundle went back and added Steam keys for a lot of games that didn't have Steam releases during the original Neo Geo bundle. Been getting to grips with Last Blade a bit. It has Garou: MotW vibes in that it feels like it needs to be studied.

Your order XXX for "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Nintendo Wii U)" has been delayed. Whilst we hope to be able to deliver your order in the next few days, we do not have an expected delivery date. We will update you as soon as we have one.

Here's me thinking Amazon would guarantee me a copy on release day

Going to see if I can just nab a copy on the way home from work in town. feck that.

Yeah I got the same email, got a copy in Argos instead. Had to delete that 10GB Xenoblade content file to free up space.

It's a very impressive little case, Linus have a video up of them squeezing some serious hardware into it. The 1070 fits quite well, though it's the max size card that'll go in @ 10.5 inches I think. I bought a reference design 1070 so it exhausts heat out of the back of the case rather than recycle it around. There's an AIO water cooler handling the cpu, and the psu acts as an exhaust also so pretty much any hot air gets kicked out of the case. As I said, m-itx has been a game changer for me and definitely the way I'll go from now on.

Got that Amazon email myself, so have a copy reserved in Smyths instead

Things that get on my nerves that I shouldn't really care about.

People on retrogame facebook pages showing off playing old games on massive HD TV sets.... with a 4:3 game stretched to 16:9.

I don't even mind playing it on a new TV, I have to do it myself. Not everyone has room for a CRT or can afford a framemeister.

But changing the aspect ratio is the press of a remote button!

They all have it set to Auto, so it does the stretching for them!

I think we all know your biggest peev is aspect ratio, followed by 50hz vs 60hz.

Sometimes I wake up in cold sweats at night imagining a NES in 16:9, through an RF signal running in 50hz on an LCD TV.

Don't forgot to throw in an IR based controller :D

I purchased the proper RGB scart cable for my Gamecube It makes a huge difference.
Problem is you still can't run 60hz games as this was NTSC games only + the region of hardware is also NTSC.

But using SCART on the PAL console is really the best possible quality image you can get.

It's a huge leap from the standard cables that come with it.

Don't some GC games give you the option of displaying in 60Hz? The NTSC GC doesn't output RGB afaik, not natively anyway

Correct only pal can output RGB scart which is what I have.

For 60hz: Only if they are NTSC and only if the console is NTSC and if you have those mad expensive component cables.
Open to correction but I'm near certain this is the case.

Just checked again there as I'm fairly certain there are plenty of PAL60 (Pal 60Hz) games, and indeed there are - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_GameCube_games_with_alternate_display_modes

The majority of PAL Gamecube games off PAL60, can't think of one that doesn't and it will more than likely be a third party offering.

Edit: Quite a few Gamecube games there are shockingly 50 Hz. I imported a lot of GC games thanks to freeloader but it's kind of sickening knowing stuff like Ikaruga was 50 Hz, no wonder I could beat it in ****ing slow motion!

That still reads like you need the component cables correct?

Anyone else driven a bit mental by repro rare (bad) games on ebay?

The Punisher on the Megadrive is expensive because it's a rare port of a very popular Capcom game. However, it's a pretty dire port, there's no reason to play it. The only reason to actually own it is rarity/value.

Who knowingly buys a repro of a crap rare game? Boggles the mind.

No, the component cable can give you progressive scan (480p), whereas PAL60 (480i @60Hz) can be got natively from the console and through an RGB scart

I'd bet a lot would just buy it to flip it like it's the real thing. I mean, I've seen people nearly being sold a rake of ROMs on a CD-R, so there's always a market if you don't care how you make your money.
