    Well, do you?

I never got into that whole thing, there are too many of them. The problem is at what point do you stop doing it.

I have the opposite problem, there aren't enough of them.

I understand not doing it for a million of them, but yeah I do, only have 3 so not too bad. They're the only people I do buy for. Besides my boyfriend. Dunno how people get into buying presents for all the adults they know. Ridiculous money to spend and pressure to put yourself under

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,555 ✭✭✭valoren

I just wait for my chance when their parents don't notice to shake their hand with a 20 in hand and tell them, "Shut your hole now, shut your hole" :)

I imagine when I'm older I will as I only have the one sibling.

Yes, for my little and only niece

Don't have any but I do buy for my aunts two young children. Got them FIFA for the PS3 this year.

I don't have any, but if I did, I would.

Nieces & nephews no problem, a member of my own family not only does this, but buys presents for all their nieces & nephews kids, and they've been popping them out these past number of years at some rate....

I have one niece and she's five months old, so I had to treat her this Christmas :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,514 ✭✭✭bee06

I only have two so yes, and they're too darn cute not to.

When I was small my parents, aunts and uncles used to buy presents for all the cousins but we got to 10 and that was the end of that.

Yes. My brother and his wife have six children ranging in age from from 7 years to 3 months and I have upstairs a wrapped gift for each of them. I like giving gifts. It's nice to pick out something for someone, shows you're interested in them.

Christ, tell them to get a new hobby.

Is it normal to buy gifts for people and for them to never return the favour? Adults now, not kids.

    Cash.

Better get none than one that's obviously a regift. I only buy for people who deserve one :-)

No I don't buy for my nieces and nephews. I have 7 of them, ranging from 20 years old to 2 years old. I am 26 years old myself and just can't afford to buy for everyone. Plus the older nieces don't buy for me.

I buy for my nieces but not for my sisters anymore. No point in spending money on a person in their 30's/40's when the kiddies get such a laugh out of the prezzies.

Same here, and ive only just met her because I live abroad so naturally I've gone mental with the present buying.

I've only got three, and I'd buy them the sun, the moon, and the stars if I could. When they're older I'll probably give them money, but for now I like buying them books or toys.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,429 ✭✭✭Woshy

If I had any I would! I've a small family and my husband has no siblings so we're counting on my brother to procreate.

My little boy only has my brother and no other aunts or uncles but his godmother is very good to him :) some people have loads of nieces and nephews which must get expensive fast

10 nephews and niece (so far), only buy for my god daughter but get somethings decent. Starting saving for the 18ths (one is only 3 years away!) hoping to give each a decent chunk of cash for college (unbeknownst to the parents).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,080 ✭✭✭✭Micky Dolenz

I have 18. Get them all presents, well, amazon does.

Ring siblings, find out what they are into and then buy them something completely different :p. I think it's a good way to expose them to something different.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 136 ✭✭OUTOFSYNC

Yes, 9 in total. But my offspring gets tonnes of goodies throughout the year ( including great hand me down)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 811 ✭✭✭cassid

I have 8 in total and always buy for them, three are in Oz, so they get money so just 5 pressies to wrap. I want to be the favourite aunt, have to put the effort in.

I only have two (one nephew, one niece) so I do get them stuff. None of my aunts or uncles ever me or my siblings anything though, so I'm definitely being shortchanged.

I do buy for my nieces and nephews. there's not many. Two children by each of my brothers and sister so that makes six so that's grand :)
I've no children so there's no presents returned, except from my sister.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 580 ✭✭✭JumpShivers

    No.

Because I have none. More presents to me. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 204 ✭✭shuffle65

Nope, because there's dozens of the feckers, some of them nearly the same age as myself :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 829 ✭✭✭lapua20grain

I have too many decided years ago to stop none of them noticed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,971 ✭✭✭Holsten

    No I don't.

They get presents off their parents and Santa, that's enough.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 637 ✭✭✭Cathy.C

    Yes.

Well, I buy them something that I think I would have enjoyed at that age and then bring it home and play with it myself for a few hours.

Then when I've broken it, I wrap it and hope everyone will think they broke it on Christmas morning.

Yeah I do. I love shopping, spread a little joy:)

I only buy for parents, sisters and girlfriend.

Too many nieces and nephews, and my brother is a ****, so **** him.

I have no aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces or nephews. Its a cheap Christmas.

I do - there are three in all and I do try to buy them 'educational' stuff under instruction from my sister.

Usually spend about 20 quid, or 30 if I like them that year.

I don't have any nieces or nephews to buy for.

    I buy for -
    My mam.
    My dad.
    3 sisters.
    Grandmother.
    Godmother.
    Godfather.
Sister's best friend and her child.
    2 of my friends.
    My boyfriend.
    Bf's mam.
    Bf's 4 siblings.

I did every other year, this year I didn't. Dunno how well it will go, but then this year I just bought for my own kids and the Missus. I bought for dozens and dozens every other year, and in all honesty, I got feck all in return, including gratitude, so this year I decided "feck em". We'll see how it pans out, but I barely care.

I buy for my nieces and nephews. 8 this year! We set a budget of a tenner each so just a token gift-tho with sales in November, you can get decent enough gifts for a tenner! I have no kids so end up buying the most, but don't mind as all the kids appreciate their presents. Would stop I think if they didn't!
We do Kris Kringle for siblings and all chip in on one decent present for the parents. It's quality not quantity with us :-)

I bring them to the panto every year. They enjoy it and their parents get a break for a few hours!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,333 ✭✭✭tampopo

Nah, not any more. Cash now. Cold hard cash.
    Cash is king.

Yes I have 2 nieces so I will be buying for them until they're 18.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,986 ✭✭✭Ihatecuddles

We have 8 under the age of 7, and we do. I love buying for them and always spoil them :o

We always get something for my nephew but my oh is his godfather so we try to make the effort. Each of the aunties and uncles are a godparent to one of our four kids so they always buy for their own godchild and one BIL and SIL tend to get something small for the others. I try to discourage people from buying for them all as it's a big ask with four and is only going to get more expensive as they grow up. My kids tend to be pretty grateful for what they get and not too worried if someone forgets.

    I don't, I have far too many (18).

Well, I get something for my favourite nephew, but he's more of a mate than a nephew.

I get my brothers and sisters something small, I made them chocolates and fudges this year. We do a Kris Kringle in the Mrs family, so I buy for whoever I get.

She buys for all her nephews and niece, but there's only 5 of them, under the age of 11. Usually it's some sort of small toy/educational jobby, and PJ's or something. I had to talk her into getting the oldest something decent this year, at 11 the novelty of spiderman PJ's is a bit ... ****.
