Weepu and Robinson, the halfbacks of the Gods!

I recall there being a huge rumour buzz around Robinson in the week building up to the announcement of the 2009 Lions squad. He was playing brilliant stuff for Cardiff that season and they were ridiculously unfortunate not to make the HEC final with him at outhalf.

True but since then he's been moving around alot.

Two years at Gloucester, 2 at Wasps, and 2 at Bristol.

It's a bit of a jump from the Championship to Top 14

Brendan Macken made his debut for Gloucester in their defeat to Sale. Seems like he had a decent debut. The fans over on the Gloucester forum marked him out as one of the few positives from the game.

Two clean breaks, two defenders beaten and made 8 of 8 tackles, a more telling statistic with Macken is that he didn't kick or pass the ball once. I think he's the type of player well capable of making an impact but once defences get to know him his limitations will be shown.

Does anyone know anything about Alan Cotter, Munster tight head who is joining PARC in aix en Provence next season? With a bit if luck he'll be playing regularly in Pro D2 as the incumbents are a bit of the pace should they win promotion.

He's been a squad player for a few seasons. He spent time on loan at London Irish and Bath. A few injuries hampered his opportunities I think.

PARC have him down as a loosehead. Does he play both sides or was I mistaken giving n he was a 3?

Can play both. Was originally a tighthead but he has moved between both sides in recent years especially at club level

This is the problem with munster rugby. Cotter was a th so they moved him to lose head and made a bollix out of it. Same as Dave Ryan. They move John Ryan to th from lh and made a bollix of it and now they had to move him back. And now they're converting James cronin to a th. Well I wonder how that's going to turn out.

I don't think it is. Tighthead is an issue and we haven't been able to do much and we have had many very good or potentially good looseheads. James Cronin has played Tighthead before IIRC, from my times playing against him and I now S Harty has been involved in helping a lot of these guys convert across the scrum and if he thought they were good to move then I wouldn't be too worried even if several like you name didn't work out in the end

The problem is that all of them didn't work out.. and there has been no successes. Hayes was a poor scrummager too. The best scrummager to come from munster in the last decade was never picked up and ended up in leinster. Munster haven't had a decent scrummager since the claw.

Hayes was a much better scrummager than he was given credit for. That isn't fair or true about Munster. It may be a slight issue that few didn't work out on switching but its better to try it than not to at all. What would you rather Munster have done over the past few years. What would be your magical solution to all the issues you see Munster having had in this area?

Well they should have signed ross after he was voted th of the season in the premiership never mind before. They should have also got a proper scrum coach going around the province. One like Rowntree or some other ex prop like Julian white not Paul mac or flannery. ... they're also was better props out there leinster signed an Ulster th out a the ail who was decent( Simon Shaw ).

Munster have had an unofficial scrum coach for years and all the Munster props have been out working with him at different stages - Seamus Harty from Nenagh https://www.questia.com/newspaper/1G1-236058156/tim-has-learned-to-play-the-hard-way
    http://www.irishtimes.com/sport/chasing-the-hit-1.561154

Don't see any issue with Flannery as he's done a good job so far. Who would you recommend to be doing this job?

As far as I'm aware seams Harty is retired years ago. You need a good technical prop whose recently retired like de villers the former french prop. You want one with a good build not like botha. Botha has a unique build and narrow shoulders, the way he scrummages can't be replicated by people of a bigger build like archer because he's broader and can't get into the joint between the lh and hooker like botha can.

    Irish in France this weekend:

    - Pau: Dougall and Coughlan starting with Butler on the bench. Same as last week.
    - Grenoble: James Hart starting at 9 as Charl McLeod is injured. Denis Coulson and Chris Farrell are on the bench.
    - Oyonnax: Eamonn Sheridan starts in the centre.
