Starting my planning for January wildcard and did a bit of research on the ACON.

    GW21/22 - Group Stage
The group stages will mean players definitely miss GW21 and GW22. Group stage finishes 3-7 days before GW23 so some players might only miss two PL games.

    GW23 - Quarter Finals
QF's take place on GW23, so losers here will be back by GW24.

    GW24
Semi final and Final teams will miss GW24 but back by GW25.

Here's the list of players who will likely be in squads (high ownership players in bold)....
    • Riyad Mahrez (Leicester/Algeria)
    • Mehdi Abeid (Newcastle/Algeria)
    • Nabil Bentaleb (Spurs/Algeria)
    • Benoît Assou-Ekotto (Spurs/Cameroon)
    • Alex Song (West Ham/Cameroon)
    • Youssouf Mulumbu (West Brom/DR Congo)
    • Jeff Schlupp (Leicester/Ghana)
    • Christian Atsu (Everton/Ghana)
    • Kolo Touré (Liverpool/Ivory Coast)
    • Yaya Touré (Man City/Ivory Coast)
    • Wilfried Bony (Swansea/Ivory Coast)
    • Cheick Tioté (Newcastle/Ivory Coast)
    • Mohamed Diamé (Hull/Senegal)
    • Cheikhou Kouyaté (West Ham/Senegal)
    • Papiss Cissé (Newcastle/Senegal)
    • Mame Biram Diouf (Stoke/Senegal)
    • Sadio Mané (Southampton/Senegal)
    • Diafra Sakho (West Ham/Senegal)
    • Emmanuel Mayuka (Southampton/Zambia)

The Asian Cup also happens in January
Group Stage players will miss GW21 and GW22 (GW20 is 9 days before the start so possibly this too?
Quarter Finalist should be back by GW23
    Semifinalists will likely miss GW23
    Finalists will definitely miss GW23

    Players affected:
    • Yun Suk-young (South Korea/QPR)
    • Jason Davidson (West Brom/Australia)
    • Chris Herd (Villa/Australia)
    • Mile Jedinak (Palace/Australia)

Will the players not miss GW 20 as well?

GW 20 is the weekend before the ACON kicks off, I would have thought that they would be with their countries by that stage?

GW20 is 1st Jan, most players won't leave till after the Cup weekend on 3rd/4th Jan

Perfect, got mixed up there and forgot about the 2 week break between GW 22 & 23.

Might be worth renaming this as not just African Nations? There's a few Aussie players who will be missing from Jan onwards too.

Kolo Toure retired from int football last week

Not many people might have him in their squad but he's had a run in defence for Liverpool as of late

I'm fairly sure he's retiring after the ACON?

Great call! Hadn't realised this was on, and had Yun from QPR seriously earmarked for the wildcard.

    I'll update later

I remember in the past though some players needed special dispensation from their national associations to stay until after January 1st.

Maybe worth keeping an eye on in case any country takes a hard line.

    Yep, still going ahead.

Morocco pulled out of hosting because of the Ebola, but Equatorial Guinea stepped in and are hosting it now instead

If I were you I'd keep plugging away with your team for these potentially great fixtures and just wildcard early to get rid of these lads when they go.

Did you sell Austin before a home game v Palace? Or was it Kane you sold?

I remember him saying in one of the other threads, Kane out and Austin in.

        Is Yun out over injury?

Alex Song with a late call up to this. Bad news for West Ham and potentially for Downing owners.....

        Why bad for downing?

West Ham will be less effective without arguably their best player

Exactly. Song has been bossing the midfield for them, therefore allowing the creative players more freedom to do their thing.

Song retired from international duty so will be available

Senegal knocked out. Mane, Diouf, et al. should be available this weekend.

Are you sure? I would've thought they'd be back the following week. Less than 4 days to the Saturday games could be viewed as a bit too soon to return to competitive action after the exertions in the tournament and all the travel as well.

Not sure if they'll be fit for selection but it's similar to an international break if they fly back tomorrow.

If ivory coast lose there last group game theres a chance for Yaya and Bony to be involved against Chelsea.

Man City were talking about including Yaya/Bony if they get knocked out Wed night, Mane has an extra 24 hours.

Interesting, I would have thought they'd need more time off but maybe it'll be a team by team thing whereby clubs fighting for the title and those at/near the foot of the table will want their players back asap.

I suppose it's just like a regular international game suarez last year played a game for Uruguay in Uruguay thurs morning came back and played the sat morning game against Everton. Sanchez did something similar this year. It all depends on how important the clubs view the player

Yaya Toure will be assessed after the #MCFC midfielder was seen clutching his hamstring following his withdrawal for #CIV today

        @BenDinnery

Had my flipping eye on him too, in the he post Costa team I had just enough to go ADM to Yaya for Hull next week.

Yaya Toure allayed any injury fears after the #MCFC powerhouse limped out of the win over #CMR on Wed by insisting "There is no problem"

        @BenDinnery

May be looking at him for the Hull game yet.

DR Congo, Ivory Coast, Ghana, and Equatorial Guinea in the semis. There's a 3rd place playoff next weekend so I doubt any players from these teams will play the next two GWs.

Looks like the Asian cup players have returned to training. Jedinak in particular down as returning today to training. Will be interesting to see how he fits into the Palace team now.
