Butter or Jam on a scone? Which is healthier?

    Hi !

I know neither is a healthy option but which is the lesser of two evils in the long run?

Since I gave up the cigs I now have a scone with a coffee everyday at college.
Its a half an hour that I look forward to and keeps me going.

Thing is, I currently use two of those little portions of Dairygold per scone. I know its not real butter but I love the stuff and can't be doing with that other tasteless Low Low muck they have.

I don't mind switching to jam instead if the stuff is better but isn't it riddled with sugar?

So if one is full of cholestrostuff and the other is just sugared rasberries which is better?

Its like having to choose between a heart attack or diabetes to go with my coffee. :(

    Both are better than smokes.
As long as you exercise and don't indulge in fatty foods every meal of the day...then enjoy your little snack.

In the overall scheme of things, the impact of one or the other is pretty minor.

Look at what you eat in the context of everything else across a day/week. Jam or butter on a scone once a day won't give you a heart attack or diabetes on their own.

    Tl; dr both

Eat the butter and jam. Leave the sugary scone. (I eat em all!)

You're eating a scone... I don't think it matters which topping

(butter AND jam please. Or cream and jam)

I'd say have both, but try to go from using two Dairygold to one. Also, if you prefer the taste of real butter over Dairygold, then I'd go for the real thing (only one!) because as far as I know, despite advertising to the contrary, there really isn't much difference in health terms between real butter and butter substitute spreads.

there's probaby more sugar in the jam than the entire scone.

Hard to know but I'd reckon somewhere in the 250-300 bracket.
