    Confirmed cast:

    Jared Leto as The Joker
    Will Smith as Deadshot
    Tom Hardy as Rick Flag
    Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn
    Jai Courtney as Boomerang
    Cara Delevingne as Enchantress

    Hardy as Flag. Superb.
    Smith as Deadshot. WTF.

    I hate Jared Leto...

Jai Courtney what has that guy done to get the roles he gets?

    He is a terrible actor.

Never really paid attention to Leto before DBC. Just going on that performance I think he has the chops to give us a very unnerving Joker.

Some coup landing Smith, Hardy as well given his previous DC role. I can only assume based on both castings that the script is strong.

Robbie was surprisingly fantastic in WoWS, while I've heard good things about Delavingue's acting ability.

Jury is just out on Courtney really, I watched the animated Suicide Squad film and the character Boomerang was just cheese. You'd think they'd get a better actor to help translate the character to live action.

Is this going to be part of the DC cinema universe along with the JL movies?

Yes. There's a rumour that Jessie Eisenburg's Lex Luthor will make a cameo appearance in this to link Superman Vs. Batman to this.

Will Smith is frankly a bizzare choice for Deadshot. I can't see him being the stone-cold killer with an extremely loose moral code. I do think he'd be better suited to play Rick Flag.

More often than not, it does seem that Warner Bros. hasn't a clue what to do with it's DC properties.

Smith is awful casting for Deadshot. Can't see him underplaying any character, nevermind one which actually demands it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,115 ✭✭✭✭Nervous Wreck

I love Will Smith so I think he'll be great in the film. I don't think he'll be a great Deadshot but I think he'll be as charismatic and entertaining as ever. The problem with these castings is they're casting for actors, not characters.

    Will Smith playing a villain/anti-hero? That's surprising.

Only one of those actors I rate highly is Hardy. The rest sound terrible frankly.

I think it'll be good for his career though. Hope he actually plays it sinister.

Yeah, he's always watchable no matter what he's been in but it would be nice to see him change things up a bit for this. Fingers crossed he doesn'take them write Deadshot as a straight up good guy.

Ever since Heath Ledger gave his performance in the Dark Knight, I'm willing to give actors a pass from being judged beforehand until I actually see the film.

Discouraging that Hardy dropped out but probably best for both parties given his previous dalliance already with DC.

I know nothing about Rick Flagg so I would hope Hardy dropping out is not a sign of a poor production. The fact that they snared Smith and Leto still gives me hope that it can be a special film.

AFAIK he dropped out purely because of scheduling. The shoot on his current film The Revenent has been extended and he's also got a press junket for Fury Road.

The talk now is that it's more than just that. Apparently all the actors signed on without reading a script, when Hardy received it he was unhappy at the character and the lack of activity his character had in the film.

The Killing's Joel Kinnaman now favourite to play Rick Flagg

just can't get on board with this movie. I reckon its because, despite liking most of the animated DC stuff, I wasn't a fan at all of the Suicide Squad movie that Assault on Arkham was. Thought Rick Flag and the other squad members apart from DeadShot were terrible - and I'm really not sold on Big Willie as Deadshot. To be fair though, the Harley Quinn/Joker interaction was great.

Not a big fan of the Leto pic either. Then again set pics of Ledger not in full garb and make up had a similar effect and ended up turning out well. ;)

    Not a fan.

You can try an imitate the killing joke with the pose and the 'haha' style tattoo, but he just looks like a kid who has a thing for Marilyn Manson.

I have a feeling, now that Leto's Joker has been unveiled it'll kick up a ****-storm similar to the one started when Heath Ledger was cast in the role for The Dark Knight, and we all know how that went.

I don't like it, but i'll wait for the trailer before rushing to judgement.

    Here ya go...

I so f**king disappointed with this 'Joker' look, I really, really am. So, Joker just goes into Gotham Ink and says "Yeah, I'd like some tattoos to really hammer home that maniacal laugh that I do and just the general Joker theme, what if you inked 'HA HA HA' on my left tit, and then that trademark smile of mine on my inside forearm? That'll scare them. Oh, can I pay you per session? Thanks, man."

And then, the body ink is bad enough but that forehead "Damaged" piece? Ah please, please, just please, let this be a late April fools' joke...please! It's as if WWE did an interpretation of the Joker, and not DC/WB.

Yes, lots of fans threw a shítstorm when Ledger was announced, but that was because of the casting. From the first set pic of Ledger's Joker, people started getting on board then. I saw mostly positive reaction when Leto was announced, but this look they gave him is just wrong. Taking everything out bar Leto's face, he's got the psycho/maniac thing nailed, but the design department just f**ked one of the greatest comic book villains hard and dry.

I'm not 'out' on Suicide Squad, I will give it the benefit of the doubt until I actually see it, but I couldn't be much more disheartened with this first look at the new Joker.

I wouldn't assume too much on what is basically a promotional picture but yeah, I'm not loving it either. The damaged ink on his forehead is particularly annoying. That being said he does look like the kind of psycho who would murder a child. ;)

I guess it's a wait and see job.

I read an interesting and fair point elsewhere that the reason for the grill could be due to repeated batterings from Batman over the years.

I totally respect the decision to avoid comparisons with the Heath Ledger version, but this feels like something that's trying way too hard. Subtle as a brick

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,406 ✭✭✭PirateShampoo

It's just a promo pic, they will gauge fan reactions and hopefully drop the tattoos.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,012 ✭✭✭✭Alfred Borden

The state of that tattoo on his forehead. Trying not to build up any high expectation of this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,272 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

I lost any hope for this when I saw Jai Courtney was in it nothing to do with how the Joker would look to be honest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,295 ✭✭✭✭Duggy747

"I just really need to focus on my art right now, mother!"

I don't have a problem with Leto being cast but those tattoos are a bit much, looks like someone who would be Joker's goon rather than the Joker himself. That "damaged" one is cringe.

I think it works a lot better without them

Massive improvement. The tats are like someone trying to be edgy in a Marilyn Manson late 90s kind of way. Wouldn't be so terrible if it wasn't for the "Damaged" one, which a particularly poor choice. Honestly, I bet the Joker's middle class parents were appalled when he went to the mall like this.
