Championship betting preview: Derby County- Leeds United

Today's two Championship games are reverse fixtures of games played on November 29th and I am looking for the teams who lost the earlier meeting to both gain a little revenge today. United imposed themselves physically early in the first game, kept things tight and then ran out fairly comfortable winners.County like to play on the break on the road and are ideally suited to doing so, but United sat deep and never really gave them the chance to do so, but aside from getting their tactics right, they were also fortunate to meet a Derby side who had a bad day at the office and were a long way off their best. I suspect we will see a far more committed performance from Derby this evening and they are looking for a seventh straight home win in this fixture, having scored two or more goals in five of the last six meetings, three points will take County at least up to third and into second place if Ipswich fail to win.

The hosts are coming off a fine 4-0 road win at inform Birmingham City on Boxing Day, who franked the form with a 3-1 away win of their own at Nottingham Forest on Sunday. The Rams were back to their fluent best in that game and the break between games clearly helped them, after playing three very tough fixtures inside seven days previously. City boss Gary Rowett is very honest with his appraisal of opponents and said : "I actually thought Derby were the most clinical and threatening top 8 side that we have played, they showed their quality and class, their wide players were a constant threat throughout the game."

I value his opinion, not least because it tallies with my own !

Ahead of their 5-0 home demolition of Wolverhampton Wanderers last month I spoke about how impressive County had been at Brentford .......

"I have not seen much of Wanderers this season, but did see them live towards the end of last and they were heavily reliant on 3-4 players.... Henry/Edwards/Sako/****o. Dave Edwards picked up an injury early in the midweek defeat to Ipswich Town and will be out for several weeks, Nouha ****o is already missing and hugely important , since signing permanently in the January window, Wolves are 22-7-3 when he plays, they are without a win in three this season without him, conceded five in two road games and a 0-0 home draw with Birmingham, who had just lost 8-0 at home !

I discussed the home side briefly in midweek .....I saw Derby County on Saturday and for 35 minutes they were far and away the best team who have played at Griffim Park this season. They were 1-0 up at the time and it could have been more, perhaps should have been and 0-3 at the time would not have been totally unjust. However, Brentford ended the first half on the front foot, scored early in the second and were the only team who looked like winning from that point on.

County made a couple of odd decisions in terms of their line up, which looked like working out early on, with Will Hughes ( in favour of an inferior player) and Jordon Ibe both left on the bench for an hour. Ibe is unbelievably quick, the Bees have a player on the right, Moses Odubajo, who is very pacy and he looked totally stunned when Ibe gave him a start and a beating, as I doubt it has happened before. They had also done a lot of homework on Brentford in terms of tactics and how the Bees play, which was spot on and caused all the early problems. What I am trying to say is that I do not feel there is too much wrong with Derby, if there are two better teams in the Championship, I would be stunned and whilst they have blown leads in losing their last two, I am sure they will be back on track soon and if odds had been a little better, I would probably have backed them this evening
    .

They beat in form Huddersfield Town 3-2 ( Hughes and Ibe both played, with the latter scoring the opener) on Tuesday to get back on track, the scoreline was a little more comfortable than it might suggest, with Town scoring their second in injury time and I think this is a good opportunity for the Rams to follow up. All my thoughts on how good I thought they are can be read in the pre season notes and I saw nothing last week to change that, I think it is a sign of how far they have come under Steve McClaren that the supporters were so critical after the loss to the mighty Bees, as they compare very favourably to everyone, apart perhaps from Middlesbrough, that I have seen. Team news looks key."

I feel that County who are already very strong will strengthen in the "window", they also look much better to my eyes when Will Hughes (pictured) plays and he looks to be starting to run into the kind of form we saw from him last season, I cannot think of a better "impact" player in the Championship than Jordan Ibe ( see both above) who has the pace to destroy tiring teams and with boss Steven McClaren having increased options now with most of his talented squad available, I expect a very strong 2015 from them and on a going day, no team at this level can live with them. My own view on United is that they are limited , a little toothless upfront and one dimensional, with no real plan B, they need things to go their way early and if they concede first, as I expect them to tonight, it is very hard for them to change the course of the game against the stronger teams. County have scored three or more goals in five of their last seven home wins in the Championship and if they are to take all three points, I suspect it will be with a degree of comfort, so have no issue with giving up the bigger handicap line.

    1.5 units Derby County -1.25 goals 2.04 asian line/Sportmarket.

Derby County are a Championship best 12-1 ( goals scored- conceded ) at home in the first half, United's record of -7 goals on the road, after the break, is the third worst in the division.

Place a pre game bet of up to €50 on any market. Then place a bet to the same stake as the pre game bet up to €50.

This bet in play is funded by your own account so you will need €100 in your account.

If your in play bet loses, refund of up to €50.

Many punters play safe with the pre game bet, backing over 0.5/1.5 goals etc or the +1 or +2 markets.

Last night I backed Sterling Anytime Goalscorer pre game @ 7/4. And in running I backed Liverpool -1 @ 15/8. Lost my pre game bet and hit on it play bet, small profit. I didn't play it safe really with the pre game bet although Sterling did hit the post. Done them the wrong way around really.

What would be the ideal scenario to gain maximum money out of bet365 then win the pre match and the in play ?

Bet365 have the right to pull you up on such activity.

"Where any term of the offer or promotion is breached or there is any evidence of a series of bets placed by a customer or group of customers, which due to a deposit bonus, enhanced payments, free bets, risk free bets or any other promotional offer results in guaranteed customer profits irrespective of the outcome, whether individually or as part of a group, bet365 reserves the right to reclaim the bonus element of such offers and in their absolute discretion either settle bets at the correct odds, void the free and risk free bets or void any bet funded by the deposit bonus. In addition bet365 reserve the right to levy an administration charge on the customer up to the value of the deposit bonus, free bet, risk free bet or additional payment to cover administrative costs. We further reserve the right to ask any customer to provide sufficient documentation for us to be satisfied in our absolute discretion as to the customer's identity prior to us crediting any bonus, free bet, risk free bet or offer to their account."

There have been many posts here where lads make sure of profit, be it 20e or so but I wouldn't be bothered with that.

A few times I've went with something short pre game I fancy, BTTS etc at odds on and then take a stab on something in-play @ a price. Havn't hit too many in-play ones but most of the pre game bets have paid and refund then for in-play bet.

I went over 0.5 goals pre game and Bony anytime in play, I cursed like a docker when I seen him coming off after 60 odd minutes.

I usually do Over 0.5 pre match and then do something with a bit of value in play. There is usually a few ways to guarantee a return but I dont bother with them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,185 ✭✭✭tinodz

I hate betting on anything below Evens, but based on both thier current form BTTS @ 1.95 (Derby v Leeds) seem liked most obvious bet of 2014

Based on same stats, Derby Win & BTTS @ 4.00 (Ladbrokes) worth a shot too.

Okay, so let's say I put 100 in my account.

I then put 50 on Over 0.5 and then for the inplay bet I put the other 50 on over 2.5. The score finishes 1-0, I get the winnings from the over 0.5 bet and am refunded IN CASH the 50 from the inplay bet? Is that correct? So I'll be left with the winnings from the first bet and the refund from the inplay risk-free bet?

Also, can anyone tell me if Bet365 is one of those sites where you need to submit identifiction i.e passport in order to withdraw? Don't really feel like going through that.

This is required to withdraw from B365, but they are very easy to deal with on the matter.

    Glenavon v Dungannon
    Dungannon to score first 8/5
If Glenavon manage to score the first goal it will be an achievement - they have given the Swifts the lead in the last ten meetings.
