I assume the same age as to hold a rifle licence to shoot them with 18yrs

I think you're better off to Contact the National Parks & Wildlife Service - who issue the licenses . .

    National Parks and Wildlife Service,
Department of Arts, Heritage & the Gaeltacht
    7 Ely Place,
    Dublin 2.

It's 16 to hold a licence in your own name

As above. The legal age to own a firearm is 16, not 18.

Also i don't think there is an age limit on the license itself. You need to provide the gun details so whenever you have the gun you get the license. I know that is the same as saying "the same age for when you can get a gun"", but there ya go anyway.

Encourage him to start shooting foxes - the place is full of them . . .

I would imagine that Deer are not as plentiful . . .

I wonder if they put the age on the deer license to stop people with training certs going deer stalking? You now those between 14 to 15.9999999 years old.

    Deer meat is called Venison.
A very good meat to eat very, very low in Fat and Cholesterol. Venison can be bought in a game dealers shop, Aldi/Lidl, or best when shot yourself and served up for Sunday lunch :):)

I'm not a hunter (yet) merely a grateful occasional recipient of venison so I didn't want to start up a thread but I was wondering about 2 things.
    1. Is TB an issue with deer? Farmers tell me it is and I like to make venison jerky sometimes.
    2. When invasive species like boar can be shot all year round why do invasive deer species get protection?

Hard to know why species like Sika deer protected.

I've yet to see a munjaic in Ireland but they have open season all year round once you held a deer licence

the only protection the elusive munjac have is you must yuse a proper deer caliber and so it should be.
