Who was the guy looking to step up to the mic at the end? When Craig mentioned "We've a very special guest here this evening", some guy looked like he was stepping up. I figured he had to be a well known singer or rapper doing a cameo.

I dunno, the Garry/Larry abuse always left a slightly sour taste in my mouth; the show is otherwise so chirpy and upbeat with its worldview, the bullying tended to feel like the polar opposite to the tone of the rest of the show.

I always thought Garry/Jerry/Larry/Terry was the most brilliantly conceived character on the show. Because despite all the abuse he takes he clocks out at the end of the day and goes back to his weirdly wonderful family a happy man. At the end of the day he's a winner.

Loving this season so far. They're really sticking the landing.

I also love Ben's continued disbelief at how Gerry ended up The wife and family he has.

I'm only watching the new series now, I've thoroughly enjoyed all of them so far. Lot more Andy than last series which is great.

I've never liked the way the rest of the characters abuse Larry/Jerry/Garry. It just seems nasty and mean spirited, which isn't the tone of the show at all. Always seems very jarring when it happens.

Agreed! I know it's done for comedic effect but it's a bit mean spirited. I think it's a running joke that went on too long. I could see maybe for a season changing his name once or twice but I've always felt sorry for Gary who is actually a nice, decent guy. I think he retired at one pont. If I was him I'd have stayed gone or just gotten a different job!

What I found jarring was that Ben couldn't act like Gary was interesting. A few seasons ago there was an episode where Leslie was too busy to go on a romantic day Ben had planned so he did it all with Gary. At the end of the day Ben confessed that he had enjoyed his company and really liked him.

I would totally work with Ron and his brother(s).

Haha, more great episodes, the show's going out on a high that's for sure. The whole skit with Ron's brothers was so perfectly written and executed; Donna and Garry's day together was sweet and genuine, and the Pie-Mary stuff seemed like Parks & Rec's most openly satirical episode in a while, skewering both the US political media and the nonsense that is men's rights.

"Men have had a very tough go of it for...just recently"

The show is back on form with these two episodes. They really were going on all cylinders! I laughed at April's note "I don't like people, but I like you. It's weird. Woof woof". As said, Ron's brothers was brilliantly timed. The political satire with Leslie and Ben was just great. Reall proper P&R really. Andy's prank on the accountant was OTT and incredibly stupid but very funny! April really stole the show with her lines though this week. "I want to tell people what to do and then send them far away from me" :D. Strangely I expected the real public representatives to come across as wooden in front f the camera but they were great. McCain could probably run again based on his P&R profile internationally :)

I can't stop laughing at the fact that April's resume was a signed photo of Alf

I'd say the google hits for Alf went through the roof after that was shown.

Nowhere near enough Aziz Azari this season.

I'd hire her based on that... I was obsessed with ALF when I was kid. It hasn't aged particularly well (dunno if it would appeal to new fans, but for nostalgia factor its worth watching again), but back in the day it was quality...

I really enjoyed those two episodes, but the lack of Aziz was jarring. I know he recently did a comedy special for Netflix and has another one in the works, so either he's touring a lot or has a few films coming up. Hopefully he'll be back for the final 4... Only 2 weeks of Parks left... :(

April is meant to be about 25 right? So why would she be a huge Alf fan?

I think its the two episodes a week and drastically shortened season that has stopped me from enjoying it as much as usual this year. Its very good. But I usually find it to be great.

Regarding Aziz, he really is an incredible standup comedian. Im talking almost up there with Louie CK standard. All three of his specials are on Netflix and Ive seen at least two of those on Youtube too.

Thanks for the heads up on the new one Levar. This guy is good enough to play in Madison Square Garden!

Repeats. She's 19 in season 1, so would be 28/29 by this point on account of the 3 year jump. I'm on the cusp of 28 myself and am a big ALF fan also.

Time flies when NBC want to bury a show; it's nuts to think that this time next week Parks & Rec will be done & dusted and the 6 weeks thus far have really flown past.

After a wobbly start, the good form continued with this latest batch, full of obvious motifs of the crew moving on to pastures new, as well as some great little cameos (never occurred to me that we'd yet to see Mayor Gunderson himself!), though the re-appearance of Sam Elliott felt weird, considering he's currently starring as a drug baron in Justified. Ron's hatred of alt-Ron suddenly felt ... justif... uh, understandable :D

Mind you, the most obvious missing candidates for a cameo appearance are presumably being held for the finale, because it'd be a crying shame if we didn't check in with Anne & Chris.

    Now remember to:
    1. Make something
    2. Learn something
    3. Karate Chop something
    4. Try something new even if it's scary to you.
    5. Have some fun being nice to someone

    Bill Murray cameo! Win

Can't believe we've only one week left... :(

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,159 ✭✭✭✭phasers

The first episode was crap imo, but the second was so good! Yay Garry!

The last veteran of NBC's best lineup ever will be gone in a week, it's so sad!

At least Community's back next month.

Got caught up with the episodes to date and while they're pretty much the show going through the motions it is nice to see Garry get his moment in the spotlight. Since day one the way his character has been treated has always left a sour taste, he's just an unbelievably nice guy and all he got was abuse, even after the dozens of times he went out of his way to help everyone. That Ben had his best day ever with Garry and then treated him like crap after was pretty horrible. The scene with Garry and Donna was really sweet and nicely placed, it was low key and far more effective and emotional than any of the show's recent big moments.

It's both delightful and saddening about seeing a show going out firing on all cylinders - but mostly delightful. Think pretty much every episode since the first two this season have been solid gold, with several truly exceptional ones among the best the show has ever done. I don't think I've seen a show that mixes hearty laughs and genuine heart with such skill and enthusiasm, and that's continued right through this season (April's deafening screech during Garry's moment of pride was perfect). Certainly this season of Parks & Recs is something of a wonderful victory lap, a few last episodes where everybody is just giving it all they've got.

As for the Karate episode? Frankly, Ben's reaction to getting knighted was enough for me to give it a passing grade alone, but generally thought it was a welcome change to formula without surrendering what makes the show and characters so memorable.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,533 ✭✭✭squonk

I liked the Johnny Karate episode. It was a welcome change of pace. It was nice to see the character in full flight and to see the show itself. Retta has a gorgeous voice! I was quite surprised! Ron's ad was brilliant!

The mayor episode was great! I do think Bill Murray phoned it in but besides that the old lady was hillarious! Nice to see Gary being made Mayor but they were still incredibly rude to him and, good an all as it was, he was only getting the position because nobody else wanted it. Good to see Aziz back.

2 more episodes left. Looking forward to the finalé anyway and I'm hoping it'll be quality.

    I really wish the
    Bill Murray
cameo had been spoilered here lads, it really took away from the surprise and fun of him appearing for me.

Having said that I loved both episodes. I wonder if thats all we'll see of the smaller characters now that their stories have been more or less wrapped up?

There's something more than we're been told with NBC and this show I feel, its like someone up high took a disliking to it. You dont take the final season of one of your most regarded sitcoes of the past 10 years and just burn it off over 6 weeks. It deserves better.

For anyone who hasnt yet read what the legal disclaimer said, please do so. Your endorphins will thank you.

Not having a dig, you're one of my favourite posters in the TV forum. But even with the "spoilers" in the title of the thread I think common sense should have prevailed with a cameo as big as that.

It's really awesome to see the show going out on such a high. I can't really think of a show, particularly a relatively long running comedy, that's delivered such stellar, consistent quality in it's final season.

Next week is going to be very bittersweet because no doubt it's going to make me feel all warm and fuzzy and gooey inside but then Parks and Rec is gone. I've been thinking about it recently and I'm relatively sure Parks and Rec is my favourite show of all time.
