Time to open this one up as it's my next goal race. Will be trying to dip under the 30.

    Entry link

Some good (albeit 10k) McMillan workouts are here, which I'll be giving a bash in the run up to it also.

    Who else is running it?

I'll be there, for the third year in a row. If I beat my previous efforts I suppose I'll be happy enough.

Great race, it would take a lot to make me miss it
Will be part of an invading force this year ;)

What's the course like? Could be worth considering as an incentive to keep up the training over Christmas!

The course is very fair :);)

Its a great race, huge crowds, lots of support on the way around, great atmosphere, chocolate in the goody bag at the end...

I'm thinking of signing up. It would be my first race that was more than 5k so it will be a nice challenge and a stepping stone to try a 10k eventually.

    Just registered.

    Better get back training so...

Really wanted to do this last year but I was injured. Already signed up for this year and looking forward to it.

What are buses on a Sunday like to Raheny? I'd love to sign up for this but if I can't get to it from town, there'd be no point right?

the DART leaves you five minutes walk from the race centre

Just another 3k extra and you've two months to go. Sign up now and go for it. It's a great race.

Hope to make it three in a row this year myself. Ideally the weather will be a bit better than the last two. You really feel those gale force winds out by the coast.

Do it. We can make the leap past 5k together. My aim is to do this and then at some point next year, go all out and do a 10k.

Any idea if there is a closing date for entries? I've noticed on the registration page that they do not accept entry on the day.

2014 injuries mean I will leave most races as late as possible to enter.

    Cheers

They accept 'em on the day (I've been inputting them the last few years :P), but like all these things, it's polite to register before then.

KJ, only seen your post now. I've the same plan. This will be the 3rd race we've been in together i think, we need boards vests:D

I'm fairly sure online entry only closes the night before the race.

Sending the walkers off twenty minutes before the runners - do they get in the way?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,704 ✭✭✭✭RayCun

no, they're strung out and up on the path by the time we catch up

Making this my first race of 2015, will sign up next week.

I forgot to mention I'm officially signed up for this. A little worried that I'll finish dead last...again (not this race, a different 5 mile club race) as club races tend to be faster, but that's not going to stop me! :D Wild horses couldn't drag me away!

hope you enjoy it! (It's my club's race) First, as you know coming last doesn't matter, it's happened to lots of us, but actually I bet you won't be - it's a big race (normally over 3,000) and there are quite a few walkers, so there are sure to be both runners and walkers behind you. Enjoy!

One of the best races on the calendar but I would say that, it being my club's race. Won't be running unfortunately ,due to injury but will probably be there in some shape or form volunteering.

Signed up before Christmas when I had an injury, now sorted and back running and really looking forward to this. It will be my 4th year in a row to do this race, as I feel that it is a great motivator to get you off the couch early in the year and kick start your program after the selection boxes and trifle........

IMO...bring a small bottle of water/lucozade for a sip to keep the mouth and throat moist as I can't remember seeing a water station last year (could be wrong on that mind you). To be fair it is only 5 miles, but I tend to need a drop of water after 3-4 miles :-).....just my own preference/ experience.

A really friendly and well organised race with a cracking goodie bag afterward........bring it on!!

My first time running this - one week to go and I'm excited! Could someone tell me where the start/finish is? The route is posted on their facebook page but it's not clear where the start finish is.

Found this on mapmyrun, is it the right route? mapmyrun.com/ie/portmarnock-l/raheny-5-route-201608

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,435 ✭✭✭christeb

Yep, that's the one. Getting pretty excited myself, last long run today. Thinking of 11m tomorrow and Tues. Intervals Weds then 6m Thurs and Fri. Should get me to the start line in good shape. Come on SUB 30!!!

Yep that's the right route alright. The Start/Finish area is at the top left corner of the small loop as you look at the map...the junction of All Saints Drive and All Saints Park.

Best of luck and of course, ENJOY!!!
