Just looked at RTE Christmas Guide and listings for UTV Ireland for 1st/2nd January are included. Seems to be almost a duplicate of UTV so no surprise there. Will be interesting to see what their news output is like when it gets up and running.

Any films being broadcast on UTVI?

Far and Away with Tom Cruise and On Golden Pond both I think were on ITV a lot. Nothing to get excited about..

Interestingly both of them are from Universal Studios .. I thought RTÉ or TV3 would have those rights... possibly UTV can access films not broadcast for a certain period - the problem with that means the films could be of a very poor quality - discarded by the rest.

There is a film being shown on New Years Day but us the viewers don't know what the film is yet.

I have to say that the updated UTV Ireland website looks very much like the itv website in the UK. With all that being said it looks to be like a very nice job.

EDIT: I had a look at UTV Ireland's FAQ page and it asked the question "Will UTV Ireland have a HD service"?

The answer was written as follows > "UTV Ireland will be available in HD for viewers with HD platform providers".

So, will this mean that UTV Ireland be available in HD on Saorview after all? Fingers crossed it will be the case come January 1st.

I see they are sticking with the awful fonts and essentially the same on screen look that UTV has but tinted green instead of blue. Yawn.

I don't think that's surprising at all. When rebrand time comes they can do both at the same time. It makes sense and will save money.

Kenny will make an on-screen appearance on the station's first day of broadcast on January 1. "I will be visible on the first day, doing what is undecided. My show won't be on till spring. It's a work in progress," he said.

What's with all the domains... utv.ie, utvireland.ie & utvirelandsales.ie? One is enough, it's the same entity.

utv.ie was used for UTV NI at one stage. Avoid confusion!

in the mid 2000s they had utv.co.uk and utv.ie simultaneously. Prior to that utvinternet.com was their first domain name.

I thought they had U.TV as their domain name.

They do now, but that wasn't always the case.

People might be taken aback to see how different UTV and UTV Ireland are from each other, at least in the first two days. On the first day (albeit a day that starts at 19:25) only Emmerdale is being simulcast. The second days UTVi follows ITV from 9:25-12:25 but then splits and doesn't similcast any more network shows until Emmerdale and the double bill of Coronation Street in early evening. Otherwise they are completely different. No doubt a good bit of this is due to ITV still being in "holiday mode" and when we see the 5th onwards there should be more.

Meanwhile TV3 gives little away of its long terms plans - basically back to back movies both days.

Good to see that UTV I will be different to UTV and hopefully TV3 can up its game, it will mean more good selection for viewers and possibly more time watching the Saorview channels than freesat, only time will tell.
Hopefully we get UTV I in HD on the SV.

well not much really on it that would entice you to watch utvirl when they are opting away from the ITV schedule really unless you like 20 year old films.

two quick questions lads and apologies if already asked.

Will a HD version of this channel be available from day one on the Sky platform and will they be showing Champions league football?

Yes but only as part of the HD package
No as UTV Ireland is a separate entity to UTV who have the rights through ITV

Probably not but we are expecting to hear details of Irish champions league rights very soon - maybe even tomorrow... they could have course bid for CL rights and would have every right to but IMO very unlikely.

ITV's rights to the Champions League end in June anyway.

The same HD studio's, that only those with pay TV, will get to see the full benefits of !

Bearing in mind their studios in Belfast are not HD!

turning into a bit of a damp squid of a launch really after all their money and promotion. I honestly think they have overestimated they market share they will get and the advertising agencies might be right. Time will tell.

Well TV3 struggled with basically the same ITV programme mix. The big difference will be their news output, which they are putting most of their money into.
