Was in Cork City recently - a great city, with a great respect for culture and art.

But - in the swimming pool at the 4 star hotel , I was shocked at the poor standard of body art ! , mostly on bodies of locals.

Was thinking - if there is such a great tradition with art in the city - why the body art was so poor ?

Anyway - is it time , like the Sun bed issue , we started controlling silly decisions of the youth ?

How do you know they were locals or got the tattoos as youths. Stupid post. Furthermore what's culture got to do with people's bodies.

So everyone in the pool was talking? A youth would be a 18/19 yo not a 39 year old. I'm sorry but you sound snobbish. I don't like tacky tattoos either but that's people's own choice. And if they work and can afford a hotel then they deserve the right to swim there.

No - there was a gym connected - River Lee hotel , so locals mixed with the hotel people.

Are people saying 5 star hotels have better tattoos ?

You can have a swastika on your face and swim in Fota if you have the money.

I think tattoos have become more popular, like years ago only sailors or convicts had them. It's not class division anymore. Are you by any chance over 50?

Yes - but , I'm asking , are tattoos ultimately, the modern definition of class ?

Yes - sticking a person in a class is sick - but is that a truth behind the fake façade.

I agree , it is like the star of David branding.

You have to laugh at someone going to Cork and judging others decisions.

OP you may not like to their tattoos but they do. I've got no tattoos myself but I wouldn't judge what other people have on their bodies.

I'm from Cork and there are a lot of knackers in this city. But tattoos are not defined as classless anymore as they are more mainstream and modernly stylish. Someone with ink is not seen as lower class whereas before they would have been.

look - I like to go places and get in at the deep end of the pool at a 4 star hotel and mix with the locals.

But - I just felt the locals , seemed to be a little misguided ,

Like they seen Roy Keane - against Holland , and that made it ok

    No - s**t -- is s**t,

If it was a 'known fact' then we wouldn't be asking if people knew cos we would already know therefore it is not known.

I know from personal experience that just because someone is over 40 does not mean they're going to have more sense when it comes to picking tattoos. I know probably dozens of people with tattoos, and I've only ever seen 2 good ones in person, people really don't take getting a tattoo as seriously as they should, and are far more concerned with price than quality. A friend of mine even got a tattoo at a party where someone brought along a tattoo machine, and it's a fairly big one too. No need to say, it looks awful. Hell, I even know someone who wants to be a tattoo artist, he went and purchased a tattoo machine on eBay, and no joke, without even a small bit of training, he decided to "practice" on himself. There should be some regulations for who can get a tattoo(only people over 18 at least, maybe even older, around 21 or so), and who is licensed to give a tattoo, and unless you're a licensed tattoo artist you should not be allowed purchase a tattoo machine, and getting a license should involve some kind of test.

I have two. They were important at the time to me. To be honest it doesn't matter that much if you see them everyday. I don't understand people who say they regret them. Aren't you used to them by now?

Mine are black which helps with fading and there is a slick line. I can cover the larger one and the smaller one is something people rarely notice.

It's the crappy Tattoos people regret. To be honest people can get them removed. Part of the reason I got black is because it is the easiest colour to remove. Greens, Blues and Reds will prove more difficult. Or if the tattoo is layered and a lot of different work has gone on.

But the thing is I don't really think about them that much either way. It's a surface thing. If you get a large area tattoo that is something which those types of people are usually ready to commit to.

A ban on tattoos makes little sense. They don't affect anyone really but the person who gets one.

Don't be a moron. Cork is a city as are Dublin and Limerick. It's places like Galway are debated about. Cork has always been known as a thriving city. Why do the dumb asses only emerge at night here.

This can happen. They definitely increased my street cred. If your job permits it you can even have visible ones.

You didn't choose them and yet you have made peace with them. This is exactly the point I'm making.

So someone changes their mind over a tattoo? Meh no biggie I've never met anyone who hated them.

Anyone I have met who really disliked them had a total change of life and character. And it was more like they did not like the old life and the old character rather than the tattoo. It's just not them anymore.
