If by subtle you mean it only exists in your imagination then yes.

Connolly didn't contest the charge. He didn't claim mitigation by saying there was provocation. As to what actually happened - and I'm bearing in mind there might still be civil legal proceedings in this - if you think connolly walked up to some random bloke and clocked him for no reason at all then you can have a few of your little fcking rolley eyes there for yourself.

Given that the victim has declined an offer of compensation and requested a donation to charity instead then I'd say it's unlikely he'll be pursuing anything through the civil courts.

As for the facts of what happened - the account of the assault was recounted by the judge in court, and was not disputed in any way by Connolly.

“It is alleged that the injured party was socialising with a friend, it would be alleged that the accused assaulted him in an unprovoked attack,” Judge Clyne has heard.
Connolly, who has an address at Collins Park, Beaumont, north Dublin, “punched him in the face”. Mr Kelly, who is in his thirties, was knocked down and Connolly then “continued to punch him on the ground”.

After the initial assault, your hero continued to punch the guy on the ground - that's a hell of a lot more than a "mistake" as you were so keen to downplay it as.

I'd have a degree of sympathy of Connolly if it a momentary lapse where he lashed out at someone.
An incident where he repeatedly punches someone who had already been knocked to the ground - he's extremely lucky to have found a judge who was clearly as star-struck as you seem to be.

That stuff may be taken into account in a civil case if a judge wants to take into account or take it off an over all settlement but it doesn't preclude your man taking a case and what he might get.

You're just repeating what's already there connolly chose not to contest this in any way, any you've added in some personal abuse. well done.

Feel free to point out the "personal abuse"

Seems like you're getting your knickers in a twist because you've been called out for trying to downplay what has been documented in court as a pretty nasty assault.

Sorry to dissappoint you but you haven't aggravated me in the least. I couldn't leave your weak attempt to deliberately misinterpret my post as "victim blaming" unfoiled is all.

If that was a Donegal GAA footballer he have gotten 10 years

    :-)

If it was a donegal player there would have been fourteen of his teammates behind him in court :p

At least it came to court, if he was a rugby player with a south side club the case wouldn't have got beyond the dpp.

Shane horgan would probably disagree with you, though admittedly not a south side...
