    It's all changed now thankfully and like Panti says, it is more of an inconvenience nowadays for HIV sufferers. The biggest issue is the stigma that remains, but even that is dwindling.

    I dont think the problem is people being homophobic, I think the problem is allowing a bunch of lads to congregate in a motorized vehicle

    For some reason Amnesty Ireland prefer not to realise that...;) or pretend not to.

    Therefore, gross generalisations about Irish society from a man dressed up as a woman with an American accent isn't exactly Rosa Parks stuff in my book.

    I've had the "bunch of lads" treatment aswell. They can be homophobic to gay people, racist to black people, scumbags to all people.

    The difference is that when scum bags target gay people, they are targetting them because they are gay. That's homophobic.

    Then there was the time(s) I got a load a abuse shouted at me because I had long hair. Wasn't dressed up as a woman or anything. Had a beard, and not like yer fella off Eurovision.

    Yes but everyone is targeted by scumbags, usually for no reason, or because the former are in groups and they're cowards.

    I just think claiming that it unmasks Irish society's intolerance or what have you is way off the mark. Far too grandiose.

    The same way that scumbags being racist means we're all racist.

    We're all targeted for some reason is my point.

    The likes of Iona and their ilk are far more damaging to society than any twats shouting homophobic abuse from their twatmobiles. These are fairly well-educated, eloquent, respectable-looking people, abusing their easy access to the media for the purpose of spreading their nasty hate-filled propaganda.

    the % rates of being targeted would be interesting.

    I get considerable less abuse when I'm not visibly gay.
