Yep, I was an 80's sprog who love the lego. I got into the technic lego stuff around 1987 with a white 6 wheeler snow truck. Then I got the yellow propeller plane in 1988 I think. Then my favorite Xmas pressie ever was the car - set 8865. I can still remember how I made bits of it 25 years later.

Then I got the following, which I thought was legotastic. This was the last box set I got around 1991.

I drifted away from it all in 1993 and the box of all the lego bits remained in my attic for years until a relation of mine wanted it. I was a little sad to see it go.

I would never give away lego. It majority cases lego only increases with value. A lot of people making a living from selling / buying lego.

That 5590 is a savage set that I would love to own some day. Unfortunately In good condition these go for a lot of money. :(

I remember the 5590 set in shops when I was younger, could never afford it at the time. I used to try to build a replica of it from all the assorted pieces I had. Good times :)

Had it as a kid but never even thought about getting any as an adult.

And then I bought the Lego Delorean from Back to the Future whilst on holiday the other week.... So yes now I do have some!

I was massive in to Lego as a kid, progressing through to Lego Technic until I retired at around 15.

The GF got me this for Xmas last year to get me back in the game (Technic Chopper). I only noticed after finishing it that I must have built up serious calluses in my fingers as a kid. The pads of my thumbs and fingers were raw for a day or so.

I was madly in love with Lego as a kid back in the 1980s. For years, I forgot my love of Lego but in the past couple of years my love of Lego has returned. I'm building up a new collection and although I'm approaching 40, I'm not in the least bit embarrassed. My love of Lego had returned. I was at the Art of Tge Brick exhibition in Ansterdam a few months ago and was enthralled.

So, do any AHers still love that great, creative toy, Lego?

    Great toy.

You haven't lived til you've stepped on a piece of Lego barefoot.

My son is big into it at the minute, got the Ghostbusters car a few months back and has a few sets from the film on his birthday list.

Should probably ad that my youngest son is a big fan of it too, more so as a snack than actually building anything.

I used to love Lego as a kid. For a few years now I wanted to take it up as a hobby. I like to look online at sets but I find that the stuff I like is expensive. It will be another year at this stage before I get myself a set of Lego because I'm on a serious savings plan. OP, don't let age hold you back. If you want to go for it, do. You can get Lego sets for adults.

Loved as a kid, and now my kids love it so I get to play with it all over again, especially when they are gone to bed. Some of the new pieces are fantastic. You can make fantastic stuff. Best toy ever. The duplo is but away.in the attic for the grandkids.

    I'm 47.

I can still build the Massey Fergusson tractor (kit 851) that I got when I was about 10 from memory.

    here y'go......

I have the supercar made up, and when my eldest was having trouble wrapping his head round parallel parking, I brought it out and he was able to use the steering to see what was going on.

I LOVE lego, always have, and regularly dragged it out to model mechanisms when I was teaching technology.

It was about my fave toy growing up. Same with my mates. Lego and Airfix models(showin my age here :D). Kinda cool to see it's still as popular as ever.

One thing I have noticed was the change between then and now. Back in the day it was more about a big box of bricks where the finished item was more a suggestion and other options for building were on the box. There were far fewer specialised bricks too. Minifigs hadn't been invented. Well by the time I was around 9-10 they had started to show up. Only originally IIRC they had no legs or arms. Kinda freaky looking actually. Annnnyhoooo...

The last lego I got before puberty and the like hit was the very first space themed lego. . I got the base stations for birthday and xmas and bought the other smaller sets with pocket money. I was obsessed with it. :o:D Funny enough when puberty hit that lego didn't end up in a bag or dumped, I actually saved all of it in boxes that went into the attic. Including the instructions. Proto nerd collector I was.

So I still have the entire lineup of the first space lego and in perfect nick too(weirdly the minifig dudes have stickers on their chests rather than printed). The one item I didn't get at the time was the largest spaceship. It was too expensive. Anyway, fast forward to 2007, I'm looking on ebay and there it is, so I put in a bid for nostalgias sake and got it(for about 40 quid too), so now I have the full lineup.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Lego was always about just collecting as many bricks as you could so you could make what you wanted. Now they're all kits that can only make one thing.

In my house, we make the kits, the kids play with them, and then when they come apart, the peices are put into the box with all the normal bricks. It's actually kinda cool when the kids use specialist spiderman pieces on a spaceship or a robot that they thought up themselves.

I hadn't the hand to wipe me hole as a child so it was duplo bricks for me. Still is.

3.30am heading into Stephens Day a 40yo farmer and 36 yo insurance broker putting the finishing touches to a Technic series mobile crane. Thats how I spent last Xmas. I got into the technic stuff a few years ago. Bought the rc excavator then a powered hooklift skip lorry. Then got flatbed recovery lorry as a present. I bought the crane last xmas. Have the old city stuff from the 80s. Light and Sound fire engine, railway depot container crane, old fire station and fire fighting ship. All still in the attic some still assembled. Some of the stop motion clips on YT are hilarious.

You legend. I still remember running that fire engine up and down the hallway with the lights running and siren going when I was about 8, around 1990 i'd say. I remember the fire fighting ship too, we also had the police station, pirate ship, governors ship, the train sets, airport etc. Then I moved into the Model Team Lego which rarely gets a mention and then Technic.

I don't get this lego nostalgia myself. I grew out of lego when I was about 12, because I got fed up with it. Aside from helping my younger siblings build lego on Cjristmas mornings, I can't say i ever looked back.

Sorry to hark back to that hipster thread, but I suspect some of the recent rise in lego popularity among adults is a case of retro-fetishism. Particularly where it revolves around lego-men doing something 'quirky'.

Best toy ever. I loved it as a kid, still love it, and would happily spend a fortune on it.

I have my own kids hooked on it now, and no birthday or Christmas goes by without some LEGO gift for them. They're going to go apeshīt this Christmas when they finally find out about the massive tub of LEGO that I've had since childhood, which I am finally going to trust them with! :D
