There's no problem fueling with passengers on board. Happens every day at the airport, just some fairly minor extra precautions to be taken.

I was not aware of that, I always thought that was the reason passengers disembarked was for refueling.

From a passenger perspective, its usually just "seatbelts off" isn't it. Maybe "sit down" too?

As far as i can remember, it's seat belts off, slides armed if there are no stairs on the doors, a headset man on watch on the ground, not sure if catering vehicles may have to be removed to ensure that all doors can be used.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

I have been on several flights with similiar en-route stops where I have not been allowed to disembark. They ask you to stay in your seat whilst the cleaners move around the cabin. Last one I was on was Beijing- Dubai where we stopped off in Bangkok.

Unscheduled stop? Never heard of an EK PEK-BKK-DXB route.

Will these pax get off in an hour? Possibly not? If not will they count as part of DAA passenger numbers?
The passengers should definitely count towards the 25 million trigger for the new runway.

I suppose it depends on the airport policy, I've flown Kigali to Amsterdam with a stop in Uganda and you are not allowed to leave the aircraft, the cleaners just work around you.
On another flight from Amsterdam to Jakarta with a stop over in Kuala Lumper, we were told to leave the aircraft and given a "token" to allow us to reboard.

Regarding refuelling while on board, I've noticed this is quite common on the evening Etihad DUB-AUH flight. They make an announcement while you are onboard to not fasten your seat belt while the aircraft is been refueled.

I'm quite happy with the proposed schedule of early departure from Dublin and early arrival into Los Angeles, it means you can have the full day in LA. Does anyone remember what time the Aer Lingus DUB-LAX flight departed?

The refuel with Pax onboard rule completely varies depending on country regulations! For example in Greece it is NOT permitted at all so pax would have to disembark! In the UK it is allowed however passengers must be informed and instructed not to fasten their seat belts the doors are NEVER armed on the stand unless push back is imminent. In some places the use of toilets during refuelling is strictly forbidden also

From what I know in Dublin fueling can take place once there is someone on a headset the doors are armed with no catering/cleaning trucks impeding the exists etc,It seems to vary between the different airport authorities around Europe.

Correct, DUB procedure is front and back stairs/air bridge and back stairs connected to the a/c, R1 and R2's slides armed, a member of cabin crew at the overwings and either a pilot or ground crew on the headset supervising the fuelling procedure, plus no reduced mobility allowed to board until after fuelling is completed.

Plus toilets out of use, switch off electronics

I flew Amsterdam to Heraklion via Chania (Crete) a few years ago and we refuelled in Chania with everyone onboard.

Well then the rule has changed because I've flown to Greece this year about 10 or 12 times and we could not board while refuelling. However they do allow you to go and have a cigarette on the apron while we were waiting for refuelling to be finished that was in JMK anyway!!

Boarded while fuelling in Greece with no issues only a couple of weeks ago. Must be certain airports. The fire service seems to have to be in attendance like in Polish airports.

Must be or maybe its just a rule my airline has but I was told by two captains its a Greek thing!! They must be mistaken or just saying that in order to go and have a quick ciggie!! Lol

Saw over on airliners.net that seats can be got departing late June, returning early July for €430. A shhhhteal given the metal and ET exclusivity on the route.

Are those prices likely to stay or is it just for the opening of the route?

€430 is most likely the price for the first handful of seats on every flight. Then it progressively gets more expensive. So my guess would be you'll need to book very early to secure these.

I am sorry but I will not get up at 1am for this flight to adjust to an 8 hour time difference. That is a fantastic price but after this summer I won't be putting myself through that trauma again.

Why can these airlines not schedule flights for more sensible times

Because they're not marketing the flight to people who live nearly on Rathlin, that's why.

But even still for people near the airport its still gonna be hassle. They are gonna have to get up at like 4am at the latest to make a flight at 6.

I might use it if it was to Europe and I lived near that airport but to California with an 8 hour time difference that is asking for too much, you would be up at least 24 hours. We flew from Dublin this summer and we had to leave the house at 5am for a 1pm flight then we didn't get to sleep until 5am again so we were up 24 hours. Absolutely awful.

You are allowed sleep on planes, you know.

The timings on this flight are designed around people flying ADD-LAX in the first place.

Well then they shouldn't except many Irish people to be using it then.

    Why not?

Jet lag is a fact of international travel. I go through it 10-16 times a year, some worse than others. There are inconveniences to it, but if you want to get to LA for a steal, you make certain sacrifices.

All you need to do is take it easy the first couple of days away, and when you get home have a rest day and you're fine.

My family are already looking at this flight ...and they live in Bantry.

Well when I flew from Belfast to America the last time I was only awake for 15 ours. The pre clearance and distance mean't that we had to be up 8 hours earlier than we normally would.

I think for a distance of 4,000 miles being awake for 24 hours is a bit much.

No need to apologise, and I hope you get over that trauma soon.

I think it's a great departure time. Considering that at the departure time from Dublin it's 10.30pm at the destination, maybe you could forego your beauty sleep for a few hours and not sleep the night before, then sleep for most of the flight and wake up ready for a full day in LA.

Some of us shift workers are awake 25-26 hrs every week. Sitting on a plane watching films and being allowed sleep whenever you want sounds like bliss. Personally I would much prefer to leave early and arrive early.
