Desperately Seeking a Carer

    Hi

I am looking for a live-in carer for my elderly incapacitated mother. She has a lovely live-in Philippino lady who cares for her Sunday to Friday. She - my mother, not the carer, recently injured herself, and now needs live-in care at weekends, and to cover an upcoming holiday which her carer intends to take. Her existing carer is unusual in that she does not take an active part in the Philippino community around Ireland, so she knows of no replacement. My mom lives in Dublin 3.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

It's the bally ballyness of it that makes it all seem so bally bally.

There is a company called 'home instead' I think it is called advertising such services at present on the radio if that helps.

She's probably entitled to respite care.

Does your mother have a social worker? I'd speak to them first. And GordonGekko's right - Your mother is probably entitled to respite care which has to be arranged through Social Services AFAIK. So check there first.

Be very through in your checks and follow up all references. Hope this helps!

Home Instead work out at approx €2,400 per week for 24/7 care... Prohibitive under our circumstances, but the idea of respite is a great one. Thanks :-)

    Moved from Work and Jobs.

I would have just put it into our Job Vacancies thread, if I'd go in before the discussion started, but I didn't.

OP, feel free to post in here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056271450
