Sounds like they made up for that this year :P

    Paris marathon 2010 2:44.49:

First really serious road race attempt after several years hill running. Whacked up the mileage for this P + D plan. Ran out of juice after 28-30k running 30s per mile slower home burning Fat only but just nipped under target.

    Berlin 2011 3:55 :

Decent build-up but got a bad virus 4 weeks out followed by an injury. No running at all for those 4 weeks. Decided to run last minute. 1st half 1:28, second half was spent half fiving Berlin kids as I hobbled home on the side line.

    Rotterdam 2012 2:35:02

Whacked mileage up again here with a long high volume buildup concentrating on long hard runs this time, partly because I felt there were easy minutes to be got from the end of my Paris time. May have peaked a little early and overdone that side of things as the race felt a little too steady, but a very solid time to reward the training and hopefully still room for improvement.

Yep, I ran a 4.35 mile between 9m and 10m markers(sub 2 marathon pace) this year. Luckily I was doing the half and the next mile was over 8 minutes as the half distance was right.

Last year, my first mile took 90 seconds longer than expected.

Fairly eratic. :p Oddly enough, I ran a 50 mile trail run 2 weeks before that 3:37. If I can stop running 50ks and longer and concentrate on the marathon fully, think I can do better.

    4:00:35
    3:38:27
    3:37:31
    4:28:04
4:17:19 (this one was a 1 mile loop, aside from loop one where we did 1.2 miles then 25 loops!)
    ??

Dublin 2011 = 4.13 (Missed lots of training. World of pain, walk/jog from mile 18)
    Florence 2012 = 3.43
    Amsterdam 2013 = 3.36
Connemara 2014 = 3.51 (Plan was just to complete - no real time goal)
    Berlin 2014 = 3.26

    London 2015 = ? (Plan maybe sub 3.20)....

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,612 ✭✭✭overpronator

Dublin 2012: 3.54 Very unprepared, jogged it with the goal being to finish and had a brilliant experience.
Limerick 2013: 3.36 Blew up at 20 miles following the 3.30 pacers. The last 10k will stay with me forever
Dublin 2013: 3.26 A solid run and a negative split
London 2014: 3.15 Had a good day and cruised around, another negative split :)
    Rotterdam 2015?

I've never fully followed a plan for any marathon as I have always picked up knocks and missed weeks and sessions. I've ended up mish mashing and making up as I go along which I know is the wrong way to approach things. I hope to change that next year.

Will be doing Lausanne this weekend and intend to be starting out at around 2:45-50 pace, I then expect to blow up in the 2nd half. The main target for trying to do thing properly will be London '15.

    My tuppence worth...

DCM 2006 - 4:18 - First ever marathon (at age 40, started running that year), longest LSR before was a single 10M. Pain and lots of walking from mile 15.

DCM 2009 - 3:31 - Bit better prepared, Followed Hal Higdon plan + 6 months of solid prep before that. Beginning to "understand running".

DCM 2010 - 3:14 - Joined Raheny, still more miles, proper club plan. Sessions, and LSR incorporated.

    DCM 2013 - 3:07 - Year round training, club plan, 55 mile a week. 5 LSR's > 20 miles before. 2 minute negative split on the day.

Been running now 2.5 years to get off the cigs. Have completed 5 marathons. Not sure if I'll go faster but really pleased with my sub 3 this year. It was murder!!
    Dublin 2012 3:44 (Higdon inter 1)
    Limerick 2013 3:24 (Higdon inter 2)
    Dublin 2013 3:09 (Higdon Adv 1)
    Berlin 2014 2:59 (Higdon Adv 2)
    Dublin 2014 3:12 (Very little - 4 weeks since Berlin )

Fittest following advanced 1 last year. Think I will go back to that if I try to beat 2:59. It seemed to suit me better than the extra speed work.
