A new coffee shop opened in Garristown a few weeks ago called 'Fancy That' (beside Gormley's pub). It was very popular with cyclists when we visited last Saturday morning. Friendly staff with plenty of outdoor seating and bike racks.

(I'm open to correction but I think it's run by Dublin GAA stars Dean Rock and Niamh McEvoy).

I was wondering where that was, as in the dean rock one. I was told he'd opened one, but was lead to believe it was near coolquay which made no sense.

Dean rock is from the area, but the family have obvious Ballymun links

i think there's one opened at the fox inn in ballymadun too, which is much nearer to where the rocks live; but i think whoever has opened that is related to the owner of the fox.

The cafe in the Seamus Ennis Centre (Naul, Co Dublin) is to close. Always a popular spot for cyclists.

If anyone fancies a change from Avoca Mount Usher there's a new cafe in Ashford - Mortimers. Just off the roundabout on edge of the village. Plenty space outside, good coffee and savage cakes/ pastries if you get there early enough!

I think the Brew took their business. Based on a couple of visits I think the Brew are that be more welcoming to cyclists

I've been in there a couple of times, got the impression, that cyclists were tolerated rather than welcomed.

The just posted yesterday that they're closing the cafe in a couple of weeks, or at least the current operators will cease operating it anyway.

Yes, I agree. It seems to be popular with cyclists but I'm not mad about it myself and have only been there a couple of times.

The Avoca? Pity - was superb for breakfast.

Oops, I misquoted, I meant the Seams Ennis place.

The Eating House is excellent - was there for first time recently too. They do some really great salads if looking for a bit of healthy sustenance mid-spin.

Can't remember if the McNally Farm café was mentioned here before but it's a terrific mid-spin refuelling spot not too far from the Naul. Hard to find, near the top of a 14% climb and pretty basic facilities, it's the quality of the sandwiches, cakes and coffee together with the warm welcome that make it worth the effort. It's only open Wednesday to Saturday and has a great farm shop if you have deep pockets in your jersey (or panniers)! https://www.mcnallyfamilyfarm.ie/

i actually passed there the other day, didn't even cop them. if that's the road i'm thinking of, i was concentrating too hard on holding onto my bike going downhill, to spot what i was passing.

Stopped at fancy that today. Coffee was okay, but it was too big, and watered down to be honest.

Cakes looked decent and they were doing a brisk post school trade

They've a rack outside for bikes and decent seating

stopped for a coffee in a place in south Wicklow last week and ordered a flat white. What arrived was basically a bucket of warm milk.

Always ask for a double shot.

And tell them to fe(k off if they want to charge you for the second shot.

Many places do a double shot as standard. Asking for a double in some places is getting 4 shots or about 30-32grams of coffee which when concentrated into an espresso is a bit much.

Now lots of places will just smile and say yeah no problem, because they're doih a double anyway

Theres a lad with a coffee stand at the junction, just behind the black railings, at the Church main street newtown mount kennedy.

Coffee is really really good and a large cappuccino & donot cost me less than a fiver. Lad who owns turned out to be a mate of 1 of our most prolific Audaxers and Paris Brest Paris riders.

Mrs WA ordered a double espresso somewhere in Wicklow years ago and the girl brought out two cups.

Big fan of the café in hollywood http://www.hollywoodcafe.ie/

excellent setup for cyclists, for topping up water bottles, track pump. Also great selection of cakes and scones etc.

There outdoor seating area out back is really good too.

Also another shout out for Sugar Mountain in Roundwood, stopped in for lunch yesterday and it was really good, didn't have coffee so can't comment there but the food was good.

I stopped at Fancy That last Friday. I was the only customer but it was a Friday afternoon. Food was excellent (chicken & bacon melt toastie) and the staff were very friendly. I'd a brief pleasant chat with one of the staff. Well worth a visit.

There was plenty of outdoor seating but I didn't see any bike racks but then given the day and time they probably weren't expecting many cyclists.

Another place in Dublin north, near olstown and Ballyboughal spotted today.

Put the kettle on. It's at the kettles hotel at lispopple cross. They've put a coffee dock / shed in the car park. Didn't stop there, but will check it out another time. Never would've considered the restaurant there, but this might be okay.

Might have to do a "culinary" cycle of the area. It's gone from naul and Ballyboughal to Oldtown, Lispopple, Garristown too

was out there today (in the car) - it should also go in the road condition warning thread, there are some proper craters of potholes as you approach the place from the south. but the place itself is very nice, good coffee and pastries.

I meant to post this a few weeks ago but one to avoid is 'Look Ma No Hands' in Balbriggan. We stopped there on a club ride a while back and waited an inordinately long time for our food (45 mins I think). Staff seemed to be very young and inexperienced with no apparent supervisor/manager present. It's also situated in a very strange place for what is supposed to be a cycling inspired cafe - in a cul de sac at the back of a housing estate. (I believe the one in Swords is better).

There is a very good food stop in Roundstone village in the Michael Killeen Craft Park - 'Good Stuff Roundstone'. They reopened again on St. Patrick's Day and will be open for the season, this will be their second season, I believe. Their sourdough toasties, scones, coffee etc. etc. are excellent and well worth a stop if you are in the area. They offer a good selection of very tasty food. There is outdoor seating in the park, near Roundstone Musical Instruments, which is just beside it. I stopped there yesterday for the first time and will definitely be going back - it is on one of my local cycle loops and very convenient.

Also, Sweet Nothings in Ballyconneely village is excellent, it is a vegetarian café with an extensive menu of both savoury and sweet treats and has both outdoor and indoor seating. They have been operating for some years now, so probably known to most visitors to the area.
