It's .22lr. Standard rimfire ammo (most common would be a better description). Unless it's something different you saw. Are they like these?

Most likely 40gr. It can go from 20 gr up to 60 gr bullets, but most stuff is usually around the 40gr for .22lr.

The .22 comes in an assortment of chamberings such as:

.22 short, .22 long, .22 "stinger", .22 long rifle, .22 magnum (all rimfire stuff)

Have a look at this to see what i mean:

The "stingers" are basically the same as the .22 long rifle (lr), just have a lighter 30gr bullet than the standard 40gr of the lr, and as such a higher muzzle velocity of approx. 1,200+ fps (feet per second). Standard subsonic .22lr is usually around the 950 - 1,050 fps mark.

I tried stinger and other H/V (High Velocity) rounds but found they did not group well (as in at all) and were somewhat hit and miss. As it was the misses that concerned me i stuck with the .22lr subsonics and kept the rifle within a proper distance to attain a clean hit.

I used Eley subsonic hollow points. done the job everytime i done mine.

I find Eley, Winchester, and Lupua hollowpoint sub sonic very consistent and all with the same zero.

I find Eley, Winchester, and Lupua hollowpoint sub sonic very consistent and all with the same zero.

I find with the Eley they group better than any other Sub, but lack the stopping power, Winchester are a bit looser but they stop them all, so Winchester it is.

Will be interesting if the 42g Subs from Winchester make it over here, will give them a crack.

I only use Winchester Subs in my 1416, tried some others and had some very small success with yellowjackets but in general Winchester.

I agree with the two posters above , the Winchester Subs seem to have more stopping power than the Eley , I have lost a lot of rabbits when using eley subs , not so many with the Winchesters , the 40gr hollow point bullet stops the rabbits in their tracks

I like the CCI standard HP decent amount of damage, cheap and consistent. I used to like the Winchester but find they constantly will not extract from my rifle.
