I bet you don't use slow lanes either because in your mind you are going fast enough.
    What?

Maybe if the wording of your poll wasnt so loaded more people might have voted differently. When the other option is "screw them" you are basically voting as to whether or not you are a prick; not many people will admit to that...

I agree here, the poll is far too vague. Every person who answers "Let car B pass" would have a "but only if" attached to their full answer.

Its not a straight forward poll.

As the poll indicates 81 people here are against you. You are a minority and you are a selfish driver.
Quite a conclusion to draw from such a small sample size using a poll so biased Fox News would be proud.

He's not a selfish driver, he is abiding by the ROTR.

Strictly abiding to the "ROTR" in any situation and regardless of anything has the potential of brewing a dangerous situation that could have been prevented or defused by simply using some brains and common sense.

Now I don't think that most of the people saying "I wouldn't move over" are actually advocating behaving like a rolling roadblock, i.e. moving to the middle of the road, brake testing and so on, and I am fairly sure the vast majority of them would in fact let faster cars by if reasonable to do.

It is also true, however, that nobody here is saying that one should jump in the ditch to allow others to pass; Just that is would be a good thing to do should the need arise, regardless of what you think about somebody else's driving, about you being "right for being under the limit" and all these. Again, most of us are neither law enforcement agents...nor road warriors, hopefully.

The poll reminds me of a Mitch Hedberg joke
I did a special for Comedy Central and I had to take a physical, a verbal physical. A bunch of yes and no questions, but they were strangely worded. Like, “Have you ever tried sugar… or PCP?” -Mitch Hedberg

    1. Others should move off the road to allow you to pass safely because you cannot manage to do it on your own.
    2. Someone else should write a better poll for you because you cannot manage to do it on your own.
    3. ?

I've never been flashed by someone wanted to get by.

If I am driving to the conditions, ie, if its a 100km stretch of road, its safe for me to do it, and I am, they can drive around me. I might move towards the hard shoulder, but not putting any of my wheels in it.

If road conditions do not permit me, ie, the weather, or road lay out, and I have to reduce to say 80km, same applies.

If there is a mechanical reason for me to be doing only 80km, ie, on a space saver, or if I'm not familiar with the road and trying to find a turn, then I will move in for someone to get by, before they need to flash me, but only when safe.

This is one of those things people just need to get a grip about.

The 100k road where you won't get a chance to overtake in less than 2 minutes driving at 80 km/h is fairly rare.

I'd move over and let a faster approaching car pass anyway. But if the kunt landed on my rear bumper and started flashing I'd be less inclined to.

Ok, when I was in Cork last year on holidays I noticed a bizarre phenomenon (do doo do do doo). :pac: On roads with a hard shoulder, drivers would pull in to let me past even though I wasn't looking to overtake and was a reasonable distance behind them. Very confusing.

In the situation in the OP, the guy behind can wait until it's safe for him to overtake. Only exception would be emergency services.

Because a) I have no idea what kind of ****e is going to be littered around the hard shoulder so Im not risking a puncture, and b) why on earth should I drive off the road to facilitate someone coming up behind me?

I dont mind making an overtake easier. Im not going to disappear off the road altogether. The hard shoulder is not a driving/climbing/slow moving lane.

What the hard shoulder for. Get out of the way if somone behind you

Suppose there's a kid on a bike turning at the driveway of their house and they get decapitated by a passing vehicle driving on the hard shoulder to let someone else overtake?

You pull in when it safe to do so. if it a straight road you can see ahead. If there a cross road or an exit keep out

No worries, space savers are good up to 140, tested it myself a good few times, once had it on for two weeks. First was really careful, in the end, fcuk it, boot it. Must have done a few hundred k's on that thing...

Its an emergency lane to be used in an emergency, not to pull into in order to allow someone who doesn't have the patience/ability or performance to overtake safely.

If someone chooses to travel at 80km/h then they are welcome too, similarly if the person behind wants to travel at 160km/h they are welcome too, as long as they don't put me in danger.

Ahh, people, I see you get frustrated even when sitting in front of computer/phone/etc. screen. :p

I've no problem whatsoever with going onto a hard shoulder to let others pass. Even the ones going from opposite direction.

Just go (slightly, at least) onto a hard shoulder, your pride won't be affected. One day you'd be in a hurry too.

That could take a very long time on certain routes or at certain times. It is infuriating having someone else dictate how fast I travel especially if they are unable to even travel at the speed limit.

People holding up a line of cars and not pulling aside are ignorant pr*cks.
