I guess it is time for us to stand up - like an AA meeting.

My name is "Fix" - I

Ok - joke, but - at what stage do you think you went - ok, this is actually a bit mental.

For me it was trying to fit a driving range sessions in a time you shouldn't. You knew setting out, it was not going to work.
Watching Shell Wonderful world of golf.
Joining Boards - just for golf.
Buying casual golf shoes - wearing them to work.
Booking a holiday - looking for golf courses.
Speaking to my wife about golf - poor girl.
Buying a new wedge, because of the groves :o
Not playing another sport because I could get injured for golf.
    Buying a push trolley.
Getting an annual subscription for a mag.

I seen a father with a six to nine month old at the range - mental , but for all the crazy **** that goes on here - only we could understand.

So - I'm Fix - I'm addicted - do you want to talk about it.. :D

When or what did you do. :p

    Be honest ?

I've been locked into my club several times for to playing in the dark, I get hit by sprinklers, a lot. I've used my car headlights to practice when it's too dark.
My name is GreeBo and I've a problem.

The problem is the days are too damn short!

    My name is Lawman.

I'm an addict. I have been an addict since 2010.

After a round I use my little girls chalk board to analyse the holes I've played.
I fill every shot into a spreadsheet in work.
I don't drink because it affects golf time.

    I don't want help.

So far this year I've let two concert tickets go unused cos I got invites to play team events, one of them was for The Pixies, my teenage heroes.

Low point was last week though when I found myself telling friends that I couldn't go to Cork - Tipp AI semi because it's the same day as the Club's swop day with Killarney.

I'm dealerz and I'm an addict.

I've gone to the driving range during my one hour lunch break- the range is a 30 min round trip- but I just needed to "work" on something.

At Xmas i was holding my 7 month old girl and practicing swinging her side to side- thinking she was a golf club!

Hi I'm an addict, I make 14 hour round trips regularly just to play golf in a golf crazy society................

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,893 ✭✭✭alxmorgan

Hi, my name is alx and I'm a golf addict.....

    * I regularly work through lunch to grab 20 mins in the range on the way home to "iron something out".
    * I do not need to change anything in my bag but still find myself regularly trawling adverts
    * I get an indescribable buzz from preparing my golf bag for the following mornings golf...two bananas in this pocket etc etc
    * I get up earlier to play golf every w/e then I ever do for work
    * I haven't had a sleep in in an age as I play golf on my "day"
    * When we decided where we are going on holidays my first stop is google maps to check nearby courses
    * My first day off in 7 months was to go play the Atlantic Coast Challenge
    * I have watched and read hours of material on trackman and flightscope even though I own neither and can't afford lessons on either
    * I once stood on the grass range on my own in the pissing range, full wet gear on, as I wanted the more authentic practice from real grass rather than the covered bays with their mats

I don't see any of this as an issue :D

Hi I'm benny Im 35 and a addict!

I realized my problem when I started getting up a 6 AM to play golf on days off.
Going on a golfing holiday with a load of 55+ year old's when I was 30.

Getting upset if I'm not playing the weekend even if I'm going away with the Misses.

Spending vasts amount of money on golf stuff.

Watching golf for 4 days solid when the Majors etc are on.

Not having sex with the misses the Nite before a round :) Which I still do, she thinks its hilarious!

Not playing another sport because I could get injured for golf.

My running career has taken a nosedive because of this.

As we approach the entrance to the local driving range, the gate is hidden on the right.

I am enveloped for a split second with sheer terror in case I see a sign saying 'CLOSED'.

When I'm driving I look at grass verges, gardens, fields or any grass surface that's green and ask myself how hard to would be to find a nice clean lie to hit some balls.

    I'm sorry but never ashamed.

When I'm driving or on a train or even on a fcuking plane I'm constantly scanning the horizon to see if I can see a golf course!

A part of our honeymoon was a helicopter trip over the niagra falls, I was more interested in looking at the golf course beside the falls than one of the 7 wonders of the world!

I played 18 holes of golf on the morning of my wedding.
My Wife went into labour on my first child after going around on a buggy with me a few hours before.
Said child started swinging a soup ladle at 1 1/2 years of age after watching golf constantly on the TV with me.
It upsets me greatly if he prefers playing with his friends than hitting the practice area with me.
I am annoyed right now as there is a charity event on in my club and i'm on a half day.
All my nice clothes have a golf related logo on them somewhere.
A swing fault affects my performance in work.
I have missed work due to swing faults.
You could say I'm an addict.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,003 ✭✭✭Kevinmarkham

Definitely an addict... and proud of it.

Every time I see a hole in the road or the pavement I look around for somewhere I could chip from.
Every time I stay at a hotel I look out at buildings nearby and try to figure out what iron I'd need to reach it... or, in the case of the Atlantic Coast Challenge and the Diamond Coast Hotel, what kind of shot I'd need to reach my car.
Every time I see fields or dunes I'm designing a golf hole in my head.
Every time I have a terrible round of golf, I'm looking for a river to toss my clubs into... but I never do.

    As someone put it:
I hate golf, I hate golf, I hate golf... good shot... I love golf, I love golf...

Just on a call at work here and a software developer mentioned "chunking" the pieces of work.

Immediately thought of a heavily hit wedge shot, with a huge divot landing in front of me !!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,736 ✭✭✭ssbob

My Mrs constantly says I am like a 2 year old when I don't get a game, snappy, sulking, talking about golf, putting golf on tv...............

Another thing she kills me for is staying up late on a Thurs/Sun night watching PGA tour golf for PGA Tour classic when there is no golf on and then giving out the following morning when she is pulling me out of bed for work:P

Upon driving to the course in the pissing rain, you drive past a couple of sports field to see people playing soccer, football, hurling, running etc and think to yourself, mad barstools for doing that in this weather.

Arrive at the course and pretty much waterproof yourself head to foot, walk about in the pissing rain for 4 hours and then sit in the bar in ringing wet clothes afterwards as you forgot a spare set.

Mad bastards we all are but we wont ever admit it.

Lads of the 7 stages -

Most lads here are at stage 5.

Myself and GreeBo stage 6 - was almost a stage 7 , but GreeBo pulled me back with a few cards - thanks man.

Kevin, there are rumours you are a stage 7 - say it ain't so - I hear a part of your lower anatomy starts to go round with dimples

We need to start lobbying the minister for help.

Think of the children - think of the families.

I am so happy I am not the only one who thinks like this.

Wherever I am I am looking at fields designing a hole in my head, same when walking on the street I am constantly figuring out what club to get to a building and what shot shape would be best.

    I'm Yaya and I am a golfaholic.

Forgot one....moved house last year and golf was a major factor in choice.

How was garden for chipping practice ?

Was there anywhere indoors allowing a full swing ?

We had two kinds of house....1 had a garage with a v shaped roof so perfect for an indoor practice area. The other had a small garage with no chance to create one.

Broke my heart to buy the latter even though it was a far far far superior house :(:D

no - you should be happy.

Stage 3 - is a time of love and peace. You are at one with your self and the game - all your balls are in play.

Rough times start at 4 and get worse at 5 - you lie at 5 and question why your kids graduation at 5 years of age is that important.

At stage 6 - my daughter cutiest little thing ever pointed at the golf on tv - she said - Daddy there is your work :o:p:D

Stage 6 , your dad says "how are you and the wife getting on"

Don't go there - we can help.

I got a text from my wife a few weeks back.
She wanted to know if I wanted a cup of tea.

She was sitting beside me at the time....

I was watching the EuroPro tour on TV and on boards on the phone...... She had asked me a minute before but I was in golf mood and hadn't heard her :(

"No, I'll make it" I said

I’m addicted, each time I go to the bathroom after washing my hands I watch myself in the mirror perform imaginary, face on and down the line practice swings. Indeed if I see a mirror anywhere I’m in it practicing.

I convinced my partner to buy our first house mainly because it was 2 mins to the course...I have since moved and am now 15....its not easy, but I think I'm starting to cope.

Luckily work is 10 mins away so I get my fix in that way.

Better than getting caught in the empty canteen in work practicing :).... Was practicing a drill where you stand near a wall and try to get your left arse cheek to brush the wall on the follow through.

I was checking out my arse when the laughter started... The lads had seen the whole swing... Which given my finishing position... Was a good thing.

Another lad I worked with (smoke break colleague) eventually asked me (on a work night out, as booze helps these things) if I had a nervous problem or some "condition".

"You rock from side to side quite a bit when we're smoking"

How else am I meant to practice my weight transfer.........

I did this one night, but I hit the bloody child's toilet trainer seat hanging from the door on my imaginary back swing - it crashed to floor and woke the kids up! Wife screams "what happened?" - I said "no idea- you must not have hung it up properly!!"
