Hana clone

Does anybody have a Hana clone? Particularly the Cana?
If so, where did you order it?

I've been considering ordering one from Elev8Vape because, apparently, they have the most up to date models from Cloupor and they have almost, if not all issues fixed at this stage so it's pretty much a 1:1 now. However, they're in the states and I'm reluctant to order electronics from there, since I could get stung with customs. Even with $15 shipping (I think that's what it will be) it comes out to $85 (~€63) which is still cheaper than the cheapest one I've come across in the EU (CloudHouse Vapor).

Has anyone bought mods from the US and been stung? If so, how much extra did it cost?
Elev8 also has at least a 1 week wait because of the amount of orders, so I may still just go with CloudHouse... I can't decide!

One last thing, if anyone has any suggestions of an alternative DNA30 device or even a different 30+watt regulated device around the same price point, I'll certainly consider them! Also, I would love to try making my own, especially since fasttech now have Hana clone boxes on sale, but I don't even own a soldering iron so that's a lot more cash up front, not to mention I can't even solder! So that's out of the question I'm afraid.

    Thanks!

The pre-order for the IPV V2 just went live on ESI:
    http://www.e-smokeireland.eu/product-p/ipvv2.htm

Well worth the extra €30 (€20 if using the 'boards' discount code).
Won't reach our hands for two weeks but I've just ordered one anyway - the performance of these next-gen YiHi boards seems to be great so I have high hopes!

Yeah I had been thinking about that alright. But, while it's obviously very impressive, it's substantially bigger! I'm not sure I need the extra power if it's going to be that much bigger... I dunno...

One thing that still confuses me a little: on a DNA30 chip the max voltage is 8.3v and on the IPV V2, the max voltage is 8.5 volts... So on a DNA30, to max out the voltage you would run a ~2.2ohm build at 30w, and on the IPV a ~1.4ohm build at 50w maxes it out... Is it the difference in amps in each that makes the IPV better? It must be, but ohms law still confuses me a bit!

^^Have they really ironed out all the kinks? People were reporting .6 coils being read as high as 1.2, on board charging breaking in a day etc. (or was this just the FT ones?). And then the safety issues. If you were unlucky, it wasn't even fit for purpose.

    Hana
    D 25.5 mm
    H 88 mm
    W 49.5 mm

    IPV
    D 22mm
    H 100mm
    W 50mm.

    3.5mm thinner, 12mm taller, 0.5mm wider...
If you're not going to use the power, don't bother (but make sure you get one of the good Canas if you can), if contemplating multiple-coil builds with thicker wires it's a go in my eyes.
I was well used to carrying my Throathit mod around and the IPV is smaller, so I'm not too worried about it's size.

The IPV V2's board has a max output current of 16A, the Cana's "DNA30" board has a max output of 10A. Wider range and ability to use lower resistance = better.

I received my DNA 30 from FT during the week and I must say I'm impressed with it.
This is the V3 from Hotcig and they seem to have ironed out all the issues on the earlier versions.Nice and clean inside and fitted with a purple 35A Efest.
The only flaws are that it's reading .2 ohms high and the 510 connector (not adjustable) is ever so slightly off level, this does matter with most of my tanks as they sit below the recess.
I got the red one because there was a 10 day wait for the other colours but I'm going to use this for a week or so and if there are no problems with it I think I will be ordering a couple of more.
I shipped by Swiss Post ,mailed on the 7th,delivered on the 15th and no customs :)

You just can't bate those prices!! For that price I might just have to give it a go..
Does yours have the seam across the top? I hear it's a bit of a crapshoot whether or not you get one with the seam...

I honestly hadn't looked up the exact measurements... It really seems a lot bigger in the videos than 12mm! Definitely not as bad as I thought!

AFAIK the only real issues with the Canas were that the 510 connector wasn't great and that's been upgraded, and that there was a bit of a delay after waking the device before you could fire it, which has also been fixed. I know the FT ones can be a fair bit off on resistance readings (but as jousting with chairs said, his is only .2 high), but the Canas are usually only.1 off apparently.

No seam on mine, they changed the item pics on FT on the 1st of July and I ordered on the 5th just to be sure to get the new version.
You still have to wake the device with a single click(shows Evolve Dna) if you don't use it for a few mins.
There are plenty of discussions on the FT forum about them, some people ordered after the 1st and received the old version(mostly green I think) but I'm well happy with mine.
I can see my tubes gathering dust for a while anyway.

I ordered the blue hana from fasttech with 2 sony vtc5's on the 8th. no update on shipping for 3 days since it was exported, but wasn't expecting it to arrive quickly. didn't get hit with customs on my last $50+ order hopefully it will be the same this time around.

It's a disaster trying to order batteries from FT now.You should always keep them as a separate order.
    What carrier did you pick?

Just a few comparison photos of the V3 and V2 from the FT forum.

^^Looks nice. The 'sleep' thing would get at me a bit as a toke every few minutes is pretty much how I vape, and the main reason I wanted a genuine board. If they solve/have solved it would be tempting to a least try.

The neg output lead looks to be connected to the case rather than the 510, this has some side effect but I can't for the life of me remember what it is.

Do you notice any battery drain in standby/off? I have a Vamo board from FT and it's losing a fair bit of charge on me. don't know if it was my soldering or the charging board or just the chip but it's doing my head in. If I left it for a full week I'd say the battery would be fit for the bin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 933 ✭✭✭jousting with chairs

I can't say that I have but I've been using it a lot, even when it's charging so it's too early to tell.

I use the FT Vamo to check ohms when I'm recoiling heads ect and it lasts weeks with 2 Ultrafire 18350's without ever being turned off completely, so not much battery drain there. It may be a different chip than the one in the original Vamo but I dont know.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 323 ✭✭accaguest

... not much battery drain there.

Hmm, while I am happy for you I'm annoyed for me. Bugger, maybe it will just fix itself. Yes, that's what will most likely happen.

    Ouch,
you may get lucky but people have been waiting months and still not received batteries from them. They held all FT orders for over a month because of some security scare then decided to ship some of them by sea with out telling FT about the change.

You can read all about it here.

Well my tracking looks good, says it has been accepted and sent to "athlone". Fingers crossed.

15-Jul-2014 1005 Item sent to ATHLONE MPC PMIH (KLIA)
12-Jul-2014 1306 Item posted over the counter MPC PMIH (KLIA)
    10-Jul-2014 1140 Dispatch Pre-Alert 10/07/2014 In Transit

they completely stopped accepting packages with external batteries on the 14th, so i get there just in time.

Nice 1,hope the wait isn't too long but it's looking good anyway.

That's it! You people have stood in my way long enough. I'm going to clown college getting a FastTech Hana clone!

I've decided it's too cheap to not give it a chance. I'm not even a hardcore vaper, mostly for pleasure at this stage, so it's silly to spend loads on something I'll use casually, purely out of gadget addiction...

Now, does anybody know anyone that would want to buy an SVD and a Magneto? :P

I order this the other day: 1 x HANA MODZ Pack DNA 20 Style Mod 1*18650 / 7W-20W
Shipped via Singapore Post. The longest wait time I had was 3.5 weeks. Hoping this goes through quickly too. I got a tracking number but no info available yet.

I ordered my DNA 30 clone on Sunday the 20th, got my tracking number on Monday the 21st, and it just showed up on the tracking today.
    Here's what's happened so far.

Wed 23.07.2014 17:55 Mailed Asendia Asia
Wed 23.07.2014 17:55 Arrival at border point of origin country Asendia Asia
Wed 23.07.2014 17:55 Departure from border point of origin country Asendia Asia
Wed 23.07.2014 17:57 Departed transit country Asendia Asia
Wed 23.07.2014 17:57 Departure from border point of origin country Asendia Asia

Bear in mind those times are local (Hong Kong) so that all happened at around 11 am our time.

I ordered some protank mini 3 clones 2 days before the hana mod and they arrived today, so finger crossed the mod won't be too far behind.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 477 ✭✭Jonathanpbk

Still no change with Swiss Post since Wednesday which is kind of surprising!
Edit: Just checked again there and it seems to have arrived and left Switzerland just now if I'm understanding the tracking correctly! Already way faster than when I used Singapore post the last time!

Anyway, while I'm waiting there's one thing I'm still struggling with a bit regarding optimal builds etc. I understand that a higher resistance build is better for regulated mods like DNA 30's in order to achieve the full range of power but one thing that confuses me still is whether you always want high voltage over high amperage.

Take for example, if I have it set to 30w and I build a 0.5ohm coil, I only get 3.87 volts but 7.75 amps.
On the other hand, if I build a 2.3 ohm coil, I only get 3.61 amps, but a whopping 8.31 volts.

So as I said, is it just better to have high voltage? Or would it be better to find a bit of a balance and build a 1 ohm coil and get equal amps and volts? Or even 1.5/6 and get slightly higher volts but still decent amps?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 933 ✭✭✭jousting with chairs

I think the reason was the the DNA30 board could not give you lower voltage than was on the battery but they must have changed something because mine will step it down.
Something going on with Swiss Post alright,I have 2 packages that left China last Friday and no change in tracking either. They usually reach here 2-3 working days after leaving country of origin.

Hi Grindle, I've been keeping an eye on the IPV and would be very interested to know how you get on with yours, particularly how it reads resistances and how sturdy the 510 connector is (usually the achilles heel of regulated devices). Seems like the first affordable(ish) device that can do everything a mech can but in a regulated way. Also good to see an Irish vendor carrying something like this relatively early in the product's life cycle for a change, well done ESI.

    Thanks :)

Yeah,I would be interested in this also.

So I just checked the tracking there and it's in Ireland. Specifically in my local parcel centre! Unbelievable...
1 week from china to here is better than some Amazon UK orders I've placed! And my order was around 60 euro, so it was lucky it didn't get stung at customs too!

Colour me very impressed. Think I'll be using FastTech with SwissPost way more often now!

So I had this in my hand this morning at 9am! Very impressive shipping it has to be said.

First impressions, I love it! It's my first high wattage device and I haven't done any sub-ohming before so it's a big change for me! Before now I was limited to my SVD at 15w, and even at 20w with the Hana clone it's a massive difference! At 30w, the juice in my RDA is gone in a couple of fires and it hits like a train!

The build quality is really nice. I got the latest model with the adjustable 510, no seam on top, and the clean/covered circuitry. The buttons are clicky, but not hard to press so they're not uncomfortable IMO. Only issue, maybe, is that they might be a little loud to some people, but it doesn't bother me anyway. The charge port is nice and straight and it seems solid so I don't think it's going to fall in like some people had issues with. The 510 pin is floating and can also be adjusted and so far I've tried 2 different Kayfun clones, and a Nimbus RDA and they have all sat flush so far which is great!

The only issue I've come across so far is with the supplied "efest" battery. For whatever reason, that battery reads the resistance terribly, like .5ohms too high. It also seemed to glitch up the software on the chip somehow where it would just keep saying "evolv dna" when I pressed fire (not always, but enough times already...). However, when I put in my Panasonic NCR18650B, the resistance reading was only .2 high and I haven't been able to reproduce the other issue yet. I plan to get a VTC5 soon but for the mean time the Panasonic will do as long as I keep the wattage down a bit.

TL;DR: Really nice, built well, not perfect but well worth the money IMO.

Btw, I noticed that FastTech only marked the package being worth ~$9 instead of ~$80 on the label to avoid customs! Can't say enough good things about them at this stage tbh!

With Swiss Post, how much in Euro came out of your paypal account for it? Also, is it a 'smooth, steady' kind of vape, do you notice any drops or kicks when firing? Thanks.

Heyaaaaaa... Just started using it today as I wasn't home.

Mine reads resistances perfectly, just threw a few builds onto it and they're all reading the same as my multimeter and my Lavatube v1.5.

The 510 seems sturdy enough but only time tells the tale there. Mine had a small burr of metal in it, so make sure your threads are clean before use or you'll be confused as to why it won't fire.

I'll have to come back in a week or so to say how I find the battery life.

Sorry for not getting back to you till now. The shipping was only 1 dollar!

Also, after using it for a couple of days now, it's a very smooth vape! I haven't noticed any fluctuation when firing. It's lovely and smooth!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 323 ✭✭accaguest

Thanks, so probably about €44 all in if it gets through customs ok.

Good about smooth vape, my vamo boxes are horrendous. Could be the wiring's too thin or the batts are crap but it's a random lucky dip with them. Fire...nothing...sledgehammer hit...small hit...cut off...sledgehammer... My joyetech ego twist seems like a Provari in comparison.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 933 ✭✭✭jousting with chairs

I can second that,no misfires or drop in wattage.
Mine is working really well and you get used to 2 second delay before the first vape. The trick is to click the button as soon as you put your hand on it then by the time it reaches your mouth it's ready to fire :)

One more plus I thought I'd mention: I have been running this at 15w with a Kayfun Lite clone at around 1.7ohms (read as 1.8 on the "hana") and it seemed to hit harder and faster than 15w on my SVD. So I put the KFL on my SVD to test and it definitely wasn't firing as fast as the hana which I found weird since they're both running at 15w. So I checked what voltage the hana was firing at (5.2v) and set the SVD to that and the hana still hit harder and faster.

    I don't understand why, but I like it! :P

If the SDV is like the Vamo you have to stack 2 18350 batteries to get the full wattage.A single 18650 will only give you 12 watts on the Vamo even though the screen is showing 15 watts.

I just unscrewed the backing plateon my HC. There was a cloned efest 18650 in there. I stuck in the real one and it's now charging. Better to have the real deal with short circuit protection in there.

Yeah, as I was saying earlier, it definitely seems to be a slightly dodgy battery. Better off staying away from it and putting in a real one!

A month and a half later and still no hana clone, I got an update from Malaysia post this morning saying that it was shipped on the 1st by surface post and will take 4-16 weeks to arrive!!

Never ordering batteries from fasttech again! lesson learned.
