Last season I decided to go unmoderated with the 243. I was previously using a T8 but to be honest I thought it didn't make little differnece and was too heavy/awkward to carry when stalking.

I want to buy one thats alot lighter and makes a noticable sound reduction. Any recommendations?!

If it's lightweight then the likes of Ase are out due to weight and the fact they are muzzle mounted, not reflex. This means you want a lightweight and reflex mod. So your options would be (excluding the T8):
    • A-tec
    • Wildcat
    • Hausken
    • T4

Cannot really think of any other one that would suit your needs.

I'm using a wildcat predator 8 and find it very good. Not feather weight but only adds 4 inches to length of barrel and is very effective in moderating the sound. They are priced between €280.00-€330.00

I suppose added lenght has to be taken into consideration too, I don't want to make the rifle much longer, 4" I can handle, but that would be max. The wildcat predator is one that I've heard a few to recommend. Any recommendations on where would be good value to purchase one?

Depends on where you live and the dealer closest to you although there are a few shops that do ship.

The average price i have seen them for is €295. As above i have seen them going for upwards of €330, and as low as €280. For example:
    • Jim McBride, Athlone - €300
    • Sportsden, Navan - €280
    • Stakelums, Thurles - €295
    • Jim Griffin, Tullamore - €265 (limited stock/possibly sold out)
    • Ardee Sports, Louth - €300 (i think, it's the evolution model)

Here is a review i done a while ago on the ones i've owned:
    An Ase Utra S5 on a .308 & .243
    • Great mod, great results with little to no difference in POI out to 300yds with it on or off.
    • Easy enough to clean.
    • Best sound reduction.
    • Heavy on the end of the barrel.
    • More expensive than most other mods.
    • Tough wearing and will last as long as the owner if treated right.
    T8 on 30-06 and .243
    • Good on the .243 and 30-06, but difference in POI with mod on was 7" at 200yds.
    • Prone to rusting.
    • No more difficult to clean than an Ase, etc.
    • Screws down over barrel so reducing excess weight on the end of the rifle.
    • Has a resonance when fired.
    • Cheapest of the current available stock of mods.
    • Lighter than the Ase.
    Wildcat on .223
    • Great mod, and very little in difference in POI with in on or off.
    • Lighter than the Ase and ( i think) the T8.
    • Screw down over the barrel for reduced weight.
    • Completely comes apart for easy cleaning.
    • Baffles can be changed allowing the mod to be used on a .223 up to .30cal wth new inners.
    • Polymer housing gives no resonance.
    • Cheaper than Ase, but a little more expensive than T8.
    A-Tec Maxim on .243
    • Lightweight
    • Good sound suppression
    • Reflex
    • Cheaper than most other makes at around €300
    • Comes apart for easy cleaning
    • Small change in POI with mod on to off.

Thanks Cass. Much appreciated. I've tracked down a local lad with one of the wildcats so I'm going to call to him later for a gander at it. He says the sound moderation is excellent and it's much lighter than any other he's owned previously so I'd say I will probably end up purchasing one of them. Thanks again.
